Should Draper Hand Over To John Prescott?

Tim Montgomerie did a piece on the Politics Show critiquing Labour's online strategy this lunchtime. Sitting in the studio listening was the old bruiser himself, John Prescott. While using some pretty garbled internet language, it's true to say that John Prescott knows more about campaigning than Derek Draper will ever do. If he can transmit than knowledge into an online environment I suspect his Go Forth website will outdo the disappointing Labour List.

Prescott has started his own BLOG and this afternoon has even taken to commenting on ConservativeHome this afternoon to thank Tim for his well meant advice. You can view Prescott's response to Tim HERE.

  1. A blog is something that allows comments that disagree with the view being put across - well most the time.

On Prescott's they vanish as fast as his food down the toilet.

  2. Prezza isn't quite the Luddite many of us assume; he even has an ipod (even if he's probably listening to Elvis on it).

  3. These ham-fisted attempts by Labour to get all 1.0 on our asses are bloody funny though. LabourList is dead in the water thanks to Labourist, & GoFourth will, I imagine be swiftly parodied as ComeFourth, or be met with a heartfelt, if wearied, response "GoFourth? Go forth & multiply you incompetent shower of..."
As for Prescott blogging - well that's just too much. If the guys at Hansard had a job rendering his burblings into something approaching English, I can't wait to see how 2.0Jabs is going to manage all on his own. Or does if have to get Mandy to check it over before he hits the 'post' button?

  4. Labour = fail.

That's all I have to say on the subject.

  5. Molesworth1, how about translating your post into something like English?

  6. I don't think Prescott has quite got the idea of blogging. For a start, he refers to it as his "Vlog."

  8. I think John Prescott has taken a very 'human' approach to his new blog. There's something quite vulnerable about him which makes for interesting viewing/reading. He's actually quite likable in a funny kind of way.

As for Derek Draper - he lacks charm and is very unlikable. I can't see him getting much support at all with his divisive and alienating 'Sarah Palin type' personality.

    Good luck to JP.

  9. Let me be the first NOT to wish him luck with his site!
I do not find him likeable in any way, why would I?

  10. Looking through the comments, they are all very positive which I assume means that the negative ones have been deleted.

What a waste of time, so no room for questions or discussion then!

    Typical!

  11. It's all new Labour spin - anything that Campbell has a hand in should be treated with suspicion.

Still, if it keeps them off the streets...

  13. Hello Iain,

Thanks for the mention and the link.

Though we don't agree on the politics, we both understand the importance of online engagment and that's something I'm told you've pioneered.

Anyway, to say thank you, I've linked to you from our site - I've even revealed our Facebook friendship.

  15. John, good of you to drop by. I wish you luck with GoFourth. I hope you are more receptive to well intentioned advice than your comrades on LabourList have been! As I say, if you get this right it could be something very meaningful.

My only advice is to avoid the mistake LabourList have made and just concentrated on bashing the Tories. I suppose I would say that, wouldn't I, but if you want people to come back to your site on a daily basis there's got to be a lot of positive stuff, not just from you and Alastair, but from grassroots contributors too.

    Just my twopennyworth.

  17. I read that Prescott said he was 70+ years old trying to reach out to 18 year olds.

Sounded a bit pedo to me.

  19. I just pray that Iain's new "friend" doesn't decide to make a comment on Guido Fawkes blog. Might live to regret it...

  20. JP, come over to my place. We have pies AND doughnuts. We've vaselined the door frames so you'll fit in.

Is there a fatsmugfacebook or a facepunchbook?

  21. Prezza a blogger?

    Hardly!

It looks like no trackbacks and no html tags either, bit short changed I was there!

  22. I like John's blogging style. He seems humble and honest. Bless.

He'd totally win in a fight with Derek 'Who do you think you are?' Draper.
