Munk Chipped: How Very Dare They?

Matthew Parris writes in today's Times...

Home from Heathrow just in time to hear a distressing first on the BBC Today programme. Hazel Blears was actually faded out. While still speaking. I nearly dropped the marmalade.

In the old days they would have tried politely to hurry her along, but yesterday, as Ms Blears twittered happy thoughts about new Labour's many achievements, they just turned off her mike. And she had only reached about the eleventh achievement.

Poor Hazel. It was brutal. Forget Monday's mini-Budget. Wednesday was truly the day that new Labour died.

How very dare they?

  2. "And she had only reached about the eleventh achievement."

Eleven achievements, what would they be then?

  3. Hazel Blears - ugh....

Cerebrally challenged turbo-gobbed, aggressive little umpa-lumpered dullard with an Ivan the Terrible, little Hitlered-Napoleon complex.

I bet she is still wittering away on that dead mike - "Achievement number 1,786 - Gordon Brown saves the Tiger.... Achievement number 1,787 - Gordon Brown knots fog, finds the Holy Grail and discovers Lord Lucan hiding in John Prescott's brain space...."

  4. Its about time, and I hope they continue to do it when she drones on about the party line.

  5. Do you know, I failed to include Hazel in my poll as to which is the ugliest Labour Minister, can't think why.

  8. Something strange has happened at the Biased-BBC. I have notices an air of scepticism and slight disrespect towards their previous masters in Labour.

Has the BBC decided that Labour are gonna lose?

  10. The Tories would do well to respond to the fatuous jibe "the do-nothing party" with the "better if they had done nothing" party.

As for Ms Blears, chirpy she may be, but she still politicises and personalises debates, and utters the same lies as all the rest of them.

  11. My relative's daughter had a doll looked somewhat like Hazel Blears and when a string at the back was pulled would start chattering something. I remember this doll whenever Hazel Blears appears on the TV and spews out party political stuff whatever the matter is.

  12. Please give that sound engineer / editor an OBE.

Hazel sounds like finger nails down a blackboard to me... the broadcasters really should warn us when she's about to appear.

You know, it might be interesting to go revisit some of Hazel's earlier rants and see how many of those wonderous achievements have since turned to dust?

  14. To be fair to the BBC - and working here, that won't come as a surprise - she *had* to be faded down on Wednesday morning as she was still speaking at 08:59:52. If she'd been allowed to carry on speaking, she would have crashed the 0900 pips...and then where would we have been?!

  16. Very amusing, especially when the BBC interviewer audibly sighed and, I'm sure, muttered something like "here we go again" , a whole nation can never before have collectively welcomed a BBC news bulletin....
