These blogs were voted for by the readers of more than 60 UK political blogs and the readers of TOTAL POLITICS Magazine. Each person voted for their top ten blogs. Their favourite was awarded ten points, their second favourite nine points and so on down to one point. 1,142 people cast a vote. These were the thirty most popular media blogs blogs.
The full results will be published in the Guide to Political Blogging in the UK 2008-9 which is published on 5 September and will be available at all the party conferences. You can also order it via the Total Politics website from the end of this week.
I'm very surprised that Tom Watson remains so high, as his blog has lost a lot of bite since he was promoted a little while ago.
ReplyDeleteJohn Redwood definitely deserves to be No.1 - a top quality blog.
ReplyDeleteWatson is a strange call but I guess a lot of people have heard of the "proppa blogga". Redwood deserves to win by a mile. Glad Tom Harris is high up there, a really welcome addition. Paul Flynn would also ascend a couple of places in my rankings.
ReplyDeleteWhy is Adam Price the only one to be an MP? ;-)
ReplyDeleteRichard Spring's blog is always worth a look. It's regular, concise, sensible and to the point.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I agree John Redwood should come top. Also he attracts good comments.
no lib dems , snp's etc ???
ReplyDeletesomething we are not being told ????
There are 4 LibDem MPs in the list. The clue is that they are in orange. I don't think any of the SNP MPs have blogs.
ReplyDeleteWhy is it that the most objectionable people claim the top spots? Is it because the people who voted for them in this "poll" (and therefore I assume read them) don't actually support what is said, but visit those blogs to be titilated by political controversy?
ReplyDeleteI am glad that Iain is not suggesting that these are the most supported/best political thinkers, rather that they are the most read.

He may attract good comments from right wing Tories to his own blog, but given a slightly wider audience; like CiF, he is still roundly despised.
I don't know why Tom Harris is second. He tries hard, but unfortunately like MacGuire, his blog is infested by mindless morons making it necessary to scroll past miles of relentless crap to find a sensible comment. If you were slightly paranoid you might think their intention was to turn sensible readers and commenter’s away.
ReplyDeleteBut 10/10 to Tom and MacGuire for persevering.
Nadine Dorries has a site that does not allow comments and she comes 4th? This list is a joke.
ReplyDeleteJust seen this list. Thanks for publishing it. There were a few that I didn't already have on Planet Westminster.
ReplyDelete[Subject] StateDemocracy.org Equips You for the 2008 Elections
ReplyDeleteDear Citizen:
Are you ready yet for the November 4th Elections? How about your friends, family, and neighbors?
More Americans are expected to vote this year than ever before in history, so don’t be left out! Be sure to ask everyone you know the following questions:
Are you registered to vote? If you moved recently, have you updated your voter registration?
Did you apply for an Absentee Ballot? Do you know your state may not require any reason?
Can you find your local Polling Place? Do you know it may have changed from last time?
The answers to these questions -- and all your voting needs -- can be found at www.StateDemocracy.org -- the FREE 1-Stop citizen empowerment portal that Delivers Democracy to your Desktop! StateDemocracy is among the Internet’s first (since 2001) and most encompassing civic empowerment tools.
In order to boost voter participation this year, StateDemocracy.org is offering FREE widgets for all 50 states. You can simply download and embed these widgets into your own website so your visitors can register to vote, get an absentee ballot or find their local polling place.
Lobby Congress Via StateDemocracy
StateDemocracy.org also equips you to maintain an active dialog with your state and federal lawmakers once they are elected. And RIGHT NOW is an especially opportune time to contact your U.S. Senators and House Member, as Congress takes up major legislation on such issues as offshore oil drilling, another economic stimulus package and all federal appropriations bills over the next few weeks.
As you lobby your elected officials, remember that lawmakers view your constituent input as reflective of scores of other citizens who felt similarly, but didn’t have (or take) the time to share their opinions.
LobbyDelegates.com Further Empowered Grassroots Voices
