Judging by the number of people who took the post below seriously I had better make clear that it was indeed an April Fool. Several people have pointed out that April Fools are supposed to be played before noon, which I must admit was a new one on me. Am I now cursed or something?
UPDATE: 791 of you took part in the poll! 36% said yes, I should do it, 46% said no,and 17% said they couldn't give a rat's arse, yet they gave enough of a rat's arse to fill it in!
They should take place before noon. That is true. That's why the national dailies can run them, but the Evening Standard (and presumably other regional evening papers) cannot.
ReplyDeleteOn another subject, if a baby does not cry when christened, does that mean it's possessed by the Devil?
Actually they are supposed to be played before Noon. But I forgive you because I thought that was superb - an absolute blinder. Congratulations, you got me hook, line and sinker!
ReplyDeleteYou are cursed with seven years bad luck. The only way to redeem yourself is to go on Celebrity Big Brother 2008...
ReplyDeleteThe BBC was playing their brilliant penguins flying trailer well after the noon watershed (it completely took me in) - so if you're cursed so is the BBC.
ReplyDeleteThe tradition is that you can only play April Fool jokes until noon - If you do so after that time then you are the April Fool.
ReplyDeleteCursed indeed you are. At the next Full Moon your legs will drop off and you'll have to hobble around on your arse.
ReplyDeleteBeware!
I think you've been cursed for ages, you're clearly still under the spell of that old crone mad Margaret!
ReplyDeletePS your "exclusive" was the better April fool...
I figured that most lefty trolls on this blog thought you were cursed beforehand.
ReplyDeletePersonally I thought it a good idea......several weeks of not being able to blog would be the drawback(?)...but if they had a 'I'm political..get me out of here'... it could just trigger a revolution.
ReplyDeleteOscar Miller: the BBC has been (deservedly) cursed for years.
ReplyDelete...some people like taking polls.
ReplyDeleteYou've obviously led a sheltered childhood,Iain. Everyone knows that April Fools can only be done BEFORE 12 midday otherwise you are:-
ReplyDelete1. THE April Fool and
2. You will incur some dreaded(never specified) fate(well according to "old wives tales" which are legion in this regard)Personally I think it was just a ruse dreamt up many moons ago by "grown-ups" who got thoroughly ****** off with the whole exercise and decided to introduce the rule to at least get through the afternoon and evening spared from "knock knock jokes and being left messages to phone back "this" telephone no and ask for Mr C Lyon or Mr G Raffe.
I'm still not sure whether Guido telling us that Boris is doing PMQs was an April Fool or whether it was designed to scare us all ?
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm sure I actually HAVE seen Alastair Darling buying scratch cards(it MUST be true it's in The Daily Mail after all !)
You caught me and I laughed. It was a good one. Don't let petty restrictions spoil the fun!

And the 12.00 deadline doesn't apply to the Internet (Tim Berners-Lee told me).
& I said at 6.41pm "the "Virgle Pioneer" is still active - I don't see why Iain shouldn't keep going!!!
And we all know Google is always right - so no internet curse shall be placed upon ye!
You are not cursed - you are a fool for the year. It has always been like that, although television has tended to break the tradition so as to be able to make jests in their prime news slots.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, it was a good prank, well worthy of the tradition.
ReplyDeleteYes you are now cursed, and will be forced to appear on Celebrity Big Brother!
ReplyDeleteReith remembered: Not nearly cursed enough in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteYou are not cursed, Iain, because I saw it well before noon my time. So you are not the April Fool. I must admit you got me. In my defence, though, I voted NO.
ReplyDeleteYou mean you're NOT going into the Celebrity Big Brother House?? But I was oh so looking forward to seeing you in your Cat Suit. For shame!
ReplyDeleteI welcomed the chance not to give a rat's arse when voting - perhaps it could become an option on ballot papers for local and national elections. It might help bring our elected representatives down a peg or ten.
ReplyDeleteits all about you Verity
ReplyDeleteit was very good April Fools joke but I suspect you will suffer for years to come from people asking you if it's true you were asked to be on CBB.
ReplyDeleteShould I be asked in my dotage I will tell people that is true that Lord Dale of Norblogger actually won.
Ian, surely you should be worried that so many people found this quite believable?
ReplyDeleteI agree that there is no cut-off time for April Fool's Day (not AF Morning!). Such a limitation was unheard of in my rural Norfolk childhood. Obviously some people have been nobbled by killjoys.
ReplyDeleteYes, Iain, you fooled Verity - but that's not so difficult to do when said person has no sense of humour or irony.
