The Rantings of Janet Street-Porter

Janet Street-Paw-er is someone I've never really seen the point of. She opens her mouth and very little but filth emerges. She writes a column in the Independent on Sunday which is barely readable. And yet to some she's some sort of style guru. No, really.

In her COLUMN today she informs us that her motto for 2008 is 'Blog Off'. In the month that The Independent implores us to read its new blog OPEN HOUSE, Street Porter informs us that she just can't see the point of blogs. They are the "musings of the socially inept". She should know. Not only is her writing often incomprehensible, so is...well, watch this great clip from NOT THE NINE O'CLOCK NEWS.

  1. She's a mystery of our age. That anyone ever gave her a job, or even took her phone calls, is a mystery.

  2. She proves that if we give certain people the right to broadcast their opinions they will abuse it.

  3. JS-P is another TV exec, a product of the '60s and '70s that has been on the media merry-go-round for decades, swapping between BBC and commercial TV whenever she felt like it. She is well past her sell by date and the buck-toothed cow has been polluting our TV screen with crap for far too many years and the ego-maniac actually thinks we give a toss what she thinks or that anyone ever wanted to see or hear her stangled Aussie tones, on the box, in the first place.

  4. Good call Iain.

Your post made me realise how democratic the "blogosphere" actually is.

If you can't write. Or you choose boring topics. Or whatever. People just plain wont read you.

In the print media by contrast, you can survive on connections and "reputation" alone for a whole career.

  5. "She should know.

Bloody hell, Iain... did you really just use the equivalent of 'takes one to know one'?

(BTW, I fail to see why you're offended by this recent cage-rattler. You're not a blogger, you're a *broadcaster*.)

  6. Ah, and I see that you fatally undermine JSP's argument by making fun of the way she speaks. (Or, rather, using someone else's material to make fun of the way she speaks.)

Isn't this the kind of personal abuse that you've resolved not to stand for anymore? (Or does that only count when someone uses a swear word?)

  7. someone I've "never really seen the point of" was catty once - now is just a lazy old cliche - like Bagpuss without the charm.

    Yuk...ghastly creature!

  9. One of my favourite comedy sketches. Incidentally that was when Pamela Stephenson and Billy Connolly first met. The rest is history.
As for Street-Porter's comments about blogs, it adds weight to my suspicion that some newspaper columnists see us as rivals which is a shame, but there you go.

What about when Fred met Rose West ..now that was a coincidence.." Seriously ..you too ?"

Janet Street Porter falls into that mystifying category of media gypsy`s who originally did pop picking and in their dotage have to find a new gig .They are hampered by knowing less than nothing about anything except themsleves which forms the subject of their lifes work.
Muriel Gray, for example , appears on Question time as a representative of people with funny hair and kids with stupid names like peach-moon-diddle.
Meanwhile men of infinite sagacity like Iain Dale languish in their in obscurity . But is he bitter

YES YES YES YES Damn right he is !

  13. I thought that Street-Porter bint was some sort of alternative comedienne. Is this not so? Are you sure? Wasn't she on that Celebrity programme on the telly or something?

Are you really suggesting that all this stuff she spews out is some kind of serious comment?

    Good Grief!

  14. JS-P has added immensely to the gaiety of the nation - Horrie and Nathan's book on Live TV, wherein JS-P goes head to head with Kelvin Mackenzie, is to use an overused, but for once justified word, hilarious.

  15. JSP is a bully, and bullies take care of themselves.

  16. Yes, I read that article and reflected on how idiotic it was.

Those more intelligent, with-it writers in the MSM already recognise the importance of the blogosphere. Many have gone from blogs to print, while many printed authors run blogs (you, yourself, are in this category, are you not?)

I think she feels threatened, because of her lack of ability and personal insecurity. That's my intelligent, sophisticated guess.

  17. The reason that ignoramuses such as Street Porter hate Blogs so much is that with blogs you have a choice as to whether to read it or not. Street Porter et al strongly rue the day that their exclusive right to pontificate to the public was usurped by blogs, especially since they know that very few people would be interested in reading a blog if they did actually make the effort to start one.

So more power to the bloggers who have brought both democracy and diversity of opinion to the masses.

  18. What is particularly brilliant is that this clip is from about 1980 and here we are STILL talking about her a generation on so she has obviously done something right.

  19. The old bat was saying similar things about t'internet circa 1996. She's just a reactionary ignorant pseud who last said something meaningful when she asked to go to the toilet in 1957.

She isn't Australian. She is a native of Fulham, with an unfortunate speech impediment.

I think you'll find she's just a native of Fulham.

I believe the impediment is commonly refered to as blowing thru ones arse. It is a common ailment amongst people who have ideas above their station.

  24. Some very bitchy comments.

I admire Janet, I don't always agree with her but given the pathetic mocking of both her appearance & style of speech she's shown herself to be a survivor. She's intelligent and feisty and people are threatened by her.

  25. Someone who has chiseled a ridiculously lucrative career out of networking moans about networking site. Funny, that.

This post has made me want to read L?VE TV again.

  26. Iain, you're probably just jealous. Something about your comments smacks of sour grapes. JSP is actually a smart and capable woman who deserves the success that she's gotten. How many men achieve success by "accident" but don't have to submit to cheap jabs is the mystery of MY age!

  27. Jealous of JSP ? You have to be kidding me.
She is a lazy nasty cow of a woman.
She does not have a speech impediment.
She is just to damn lazy to pronounce and enunciate her words properly and she has the nerve to say she cant stand people with cockney accents.
When she comes on the TV or Radio I turn it off because she makes me sick to my stomach to hear her speak.
She sounds like she is retarded.
There are rumors of removing her from Gordon Ramsey's F-Word because of complaints by some of the producers, promoters and Ramsey himself that she is to damn lazy to correct her speech.
I hope they do because she could easily correct her speech but she is to lazy and full of herself to do so.
I like the F-word show but she drags the show down every time she opens her buck toothed loud mouth.
