I'll be on Radio 5 Live tonight with Rochard Bacon from 11.30pm until 1am. Busy day. Sorry for lack of blogging.

  1. Why can't we have an open thread when you're too busy to blog?

  2. Have you put your calendar forward a day instead of putting your clock back and hour Iain?

  3. I like the poster. It's humourous. Politics needs humour.

  4. Lets have a vote…!

If you think Chris Paul is a sad, lonely individual with an unhealthy obsession with Mr Dale’s site, vote YES

If you think Chris Paul has nothing to add constructively to any topic raised other than petty childish nonsense, vote NO.

  5. Aw shucks, let's be kind to CP, think how hard it must be for him to squirm and wriggle his way to painting this incompetent shower of s****s as a decent Government.

Anyone see tonight's Newsnight on further allegations of electoral corruption in Brum - by Labour of course. Crick seemed to find it all rather amusing, but can you imagine the fireworks that would be going off were it Conservatives who had been doing this? Anyone remember the way the media covered up the Monklands scandal?

ps Don't like the new typeface!

  6. @yougov 2208

    YES and NO.

  7. Probably one of the best posters I have seen.

(The use of railway style helvetica is brilliant)

I hope it appears everywhere. Print a million!

  8. Yougov - can I vote YES and NO?

And can we also press for legislation to stop this type cruel baiting of such a frail and vulnerable creature like Crisp Haul who is clearly at risk of becoming an endangered species?

  9. It's indicative of Tory priorities that tax cuts are the first two things on the poster, and then, oh by the way, the NHS.

  10. @ Scott Redding

So, you think the list indicates some sort of sequence of priorities do you?

    Why?

  11. So it's the EU constitution, not the Reform Treaty the Tories want a referendum on!

Postponed suggests the Tories will give us a retrospective referendum, perhaps it wasn’t a mix up of EU treaties.

  12. @ Scott

Don't forget that tax cuts are voluntary. The good news is you don't have to accept yours! If you think the government can spend your money better than you can, send them a big cheque. If you think it's unfair that your parents are allowed to pass their house to you, refuse to accept it and insist the government confiscates it. It's theirs not yours.

Any Labour voter who accepts their tax cut instead of sending it back to the State by return is a stinking hypocrite. Don't be a stinking hypocrite Scott. Give your tax cut back.

  13. Brilliant poster! Hits all the right buttons, shows how contemptible Brown is - without being obviously negative or carping. 9/10.

  14. Of course it's a sequence of priorities. You put the issues that you feel your target voters are concerned about first ... so they keep reading.

For example, the poster doesn't target voters who want a sustainable Britain if there is only one item related to green politics on the list.

Instead, it maintains this fantasy that you can have more spending on the NHS with less government revenue, and that it's a good thing to increase the north-south divide by drastically upping the inheritance tax boundary.

  15. That's a fantastic poster, very well done and thought out. really emphasises why people are missing out.

'Don't forget that tax cuts are voluntary. The good news is you don't have to accept yours! If you think the government can spend your money better than you can, send them a big cheque'

That made me laugh out loud, and made my colleague ask what i was laughing about. nice one anonymous! :)

  16. Notice Scotto didn't react to it though. Obviously what he wants is the tax cut, plus the smug feeling of moral ascendancy from telling everyone else they should be ashamed of wanting the tax cut.

Scotto is one of those people who tell pollsters they're going to vote Labour and then vote Conservative.

Come on Scott. Prove us all wrong. Give the gubmint your house!

  17. Scotto's stupid link argues that inheritance tax would increase the North-South divide. It fails to consider that retaining it maintains a North-South divide among taxes. There are some you pay only if you live in the South, but there are none that you pay only if you live in the North. Not that I know of anyway.

Abolishing IHT will therefore reduce the North-South divide. Northerners can pass on their houses to their children, and under Osborne's plans, so will southerners be able to. What's not fair about that?

Meanwhile, Scott can help to reduce the North-South divide by donating his own house to the state and by voluntarily paying Gordon Broon more taxes. Scott can't spend his own money properly himself and would like Nanny to do it for him.

So write that cheque Scott and post the scan on photobucket!

  18. Hi, Sorry missed it as I was on "Question Time Extra" last night. The incentive to go on when they contacted me was "Iain Dale's done it you know"...
