I Need a Makeover - In More Ways Than One

As several people have noted, the photo on my blog banner is, er, somewhat out of date. It was taken in late 2003, so you can see what blogging has done to me! Anyway, later this year this blog is going to have a complete redesign, but until then I thought I'd get a new temporary banner. I had some new pics taken today so I thought I'd ask if there's anyone out there that fancies having a go at designing a new banner for me. It needs to be 800 x 166 in size.

I won't give any direction about design or content - up to you! If you need a high res image, let me know by email. I may regret inviting people to do this...

  1. I like the pose. Background of green trees, strong(ish) jaw line, no tie, neutral coloured shirt, looking direct at the camera, definite eyebrows and a sturdy frame.

Just add GSOH, non-smoker, interested in politics, dog lover and car owner and I think we can find your ideal partner in no time.

  2. I think you're still very handsome.

Looking forward to seeing the new designs.

  6. Dear Iain,

You are even more handsome now, than you were then!
The passage of times arrow has done you proud and you should think yourself lucky that you didnt degenerate like Tony(show me the money)Bliar!
What you are doing is nothing less than pioneering a new democratic media! In years to come your name will be up there as a leading light in this new media.

    PS Keep on keeping on!

PPS How about a spot about Des Browne and his refusal to equip our troops with bomb resistant vehicles? Is he guilty of manslaughter by gross neglect?

  7. Is the new and improved site going to have your own administrative privileges on the comments section?

    Could you block IP addresses?

Incidentally, the miserable sods, at the large utility company where I am currently working, have fire walled blogger. com and your site completely, in the last few weeks!
I'll have to do some work instead!

  8. Is there a popular clamour for a redesign? A change of brand image might be like The Archers introducing a new signature tune.

  9. I'll have a go. Can you put a bigger version of the photo up?

btw the current public sector problems do seem to be rather focussed on good old cash cow England don't they?

    Barnett formula in action?

  11. Iain, the grey hair makes you look distinguished!
One piece of advice, don't do the paper review in a plain white shirt without one of your famous colourful ties.

  12. I would like to think that I am responsible for at least some of those grey hairs and that receding hairline too.

  13. Gosh !If only Iain ..

You look a peach to me and a tad like Dave too...

  14. I've only been commenting on blogs for a year and my hair is going grey too (I'm 31). Now that I've started my own blog, will I be totally grey by next year?

  15. Iain,
why dont you get Samantha Cameron to do it.
David has got some problems coming politically if she does this stuff too much.

  16. Nothing to do with your "makeover" Iain - actually, I like the site as it is - but just have to reply to Tim's comments about Samantha Cameron.

I don't know Mrs Cameron, never met her, never seen her except in the newspapers. However, to try and smear her by likening her to Cherie Blair's moneygrabbing and sponging activities is low indeed.

Samantha Cameron has worked for Smythsons since 1996 (11 years for the mathematically challenged). She is doing the job she is paid for, which is to promote Smythsons' goods (in the USA I believe as they are opening a new shop there). She isn't using her husband to do this - wouldn't think it would help if she did in the world of posh stationery goods.

She is NOT grabbing money from a children's cancer charity, sponging off rich people to get freebie holidays, or autographing the Hutton Report to sell off for the Labour Party funds - all these are Cherie's territory!

  17. I would not change the photo. It represents the 'feel' of the blog as represented by the comments next to the photo. What you look like now is irrelevant. The old corny line comes to mind - 'it's how old you feel rather than how old you are!!'

The thing is, your current photo is very good. You'd be better off IMO waiting for the next great pic rather than posting something simply because it is ok and taken in 2007.

Like Norman says, the current one is a bit of a trademark.

  23. Theo Spark has done a really nice one. Er . . . not that I ever actually read Theo’s blog you understand . . .

  25. It's pixelated, not sure if it's because I'm looking at it on a 19" screen at work.

  26. Like the new header. I've just changed the layout of my blog, it's definitely conservative now.

  29. Ian - Iam very worried about your new image. You look like Clive James and I know that you are much better looking than that!
