The Only LibDem With a Smile on His Face This Morning

  1. I would find it hard to describe Sarah Teather as a glorious sight, but her face last night on the BBC did say it all. She, and the backstabbers, should feel thoroughly ashamed of their behaviour. Evidently Ming doesn't have the bling factor after all, and the damage their little game has done to the Liberal Democrats is untold.

Also entertaining was watching Simon Hughes try and defend the over spun results from last year, given this year's are even worse. Still no doubt party headquarters will over spin the personal triumphs of the glorious top nobs again, and try and kid us that being already 100 concil seats down and with a loss in Scotland that the party has done really well. And that we don't really need a change in stale campaigning technique.

  2. Now we're moving back towards a clear choice between Labour and Tory the LibDems will evaporate.

They do well when there's a protest vote against the big two - but the pendulum is now swinging firmly back to the Tories.

  3. Why oh why do they put Sarah Teather up on TV for these kind of things. She looks like a junior primary scool teacher (newly qualified) who's been asked to provide insigntful comment on a political programme.
She's way out of her depth. It was however amusing to see her flap and put a panglossian spin when the yellow peril was being vanquished

  4. Oh and I really do think Clegg would make a great party leader.
But he's in the wrong party. What is such a 1st rank politician (and David Laws as well) doing with a bunch of losers like the LibDums?
They should both join the tories and be in the cabinet after the next election....

Exactly what is "1st rank" about Nick Clegg? What has he ever done?

  6. Since Paul Linford left the Lobby in 2004, and is therefore not quite "in touch" with Westminster, can we assume his question about Nick Clegg ain't rhetorical?

Perhaps he's desperately seeking views on the former MEP who made a considerable name for himself in Brussels before he left European politics in 2004? (Yes, I know Brussels is in ThatForeign and therefore doesn't count in Lobby terms, but it is possible to be a genuinely influential and talented politician there.)

Perhaps Iain, with his post, is being his usual naughty scampish self and, in the nicest possible way, trying to make things just a little more difficult for the Lib Dems by suggesting political momentum for Clegg?

(What would be the phrase for this? Astroturfing by proxy? Agent astroturfeur? )

  7. ed says, "Now we're moving back towards a clear choice between Labour and Tory the LibDems will evaporate."

Vote change on last year: Tories unchanged on 40%; Labour up one to 27%; LibDems down one to 26%. A swing of 1% from the LibDems to Labour. You haven't got much evidence supporting your argument.
