Great Television Moments: No 94

Never tell me that 18 Doughty Street isn't a totally professional organisation... The Microshaft Blog noticed something strange in our election coverage yesterday morning...
Funniest part of the Election Coverage must go to Iain Dale at about 11ish this
morning, whilst listening to the audio feed on 18DS he announced he needed to go
and left his fellow announcers rather rapidly, sounds of them carrying on but in
the background sound of walking , door banging and thunk, then loud, long fart
and a good groan and then silence, thank god he was cut off in his prime, anyway
couple of minutes later he arrives back in the studio saying he had urgent call
of nature. One of the guests says "hope you turned your Mic off"

You see, you'd just never get that level of entertainment from the BBC, would you?!

PS Are they sure it was just a .... ?

  2. You get the same amount of hot air on the BBC.

  3. Is this on a par with Brown's nasal excavation? At least viewers were not treated to the whole visual experience as well...

Still, when you gotta go, you gotta go.

  6. Can’t think of anything this embarrassing since Lulu the elephant. Great stuff, just sorry I missed it.

  7. So contrary to popular belief, one Tory was dumped at the polls last night...

  8. Ignoring the forgotten mike business, I can't imagine any politician except Iain being honest enough to say 'had to answer a call of nature'.

That honesty is the main reason I look at your blog every day, Iain - though, admittedly, hearing you fart and so on was a little too much realism :)

If only these politicians had brain enough to learn that honesty is what the electorate long for. Spin and scripted presentation - even when designed to appear unscripted - are just massive turn electoral offs.

Politicians, burn your bloody scripts, forget the over-sculpted, apparatchick hair styles and personas and please, please, please speak from the heart - if you have hearts, that is.

  9. There you are, more realism. I meant to say 'electoral turn offs' not, not 'massive turn electoral offs'

  13. Reminds me of one of our local councillors caught in a similar situation whilst on the golf course. He nipped quickly into some trees and when done was mortified to see that he had dumped on a frog which was now leaping away with said dump. This caused him to comment 'Bloody Hell, I've been on the council for ten years and this is the first time I've had a motion carried'

  14. Iain, maybe you could nick that old News Of The World slogan:

    All human life is there.

    or maybe even:

"He made his excuses and left"

  15. "I can't imagine any politician except Iain being honest enough to say 'had to answer a call of nature'."

Iain has thus far not been honest enough to say where he sourced his claim that the Speaker had vetoed the route of the Justice for England march on May 1st.

I'd be keen to see this claim substantiated by some other documentary evidence.

Iain may of course be honest enough, in due course, to say he'd made the whole thing up. As he'll know from his trackbacks etc., his claim was picked up by a whole number of "English Democracy" websites.

  16. I think a word of apology is due to your colleagues who were obviously thinking, shut up Ian and where are your manners ? when you were chatting away to the production team before you got to the loo.

  19. Iain,

It happened to Homer Simpson, and he's still doing well - it's a classic episode! - it didn't harm his career. Rumour has it he's got a film coming out in July.

But it didn't really happen though, did it? If it did, thank you for being so honest. Its why - despite the fact you are a bloody Tory - this blog is such a great read.
