And Then There Were None - The 89 Labour-Free Zones
Malvern Hills District is (wrongly) coloured green on the map. Labour don't have a single councillor here - not least because they didn't put up any candidates!
I knew the tide was turning for the Conservatives when Phil Collins appeared in Room 101 last year after being sent into credibility exile in the mid1990s.
Now Genesis are touring again and they've just been given co-top billing with Madonna at one of the Live Earth Concerts in July.
More than one fine old English institution back from the dead in 2007.
BTW, Selling England by the Pound was the title of the (?) '73 Labour Party manifesto.
After Gordo's PFI decade, I think that's a phrase due for a revival.
I have noticed that the BBC et al are making much of the fact that the tories have no councillors in a handful of northern cities [Mainly I suspect because of conservatives there tactically voting Lib Dem to keep labour out] while I dont' find a mention of the dozens of councils without a labour councillor, nor the fact that in many northern councils they are the biggest party in terms of councillors elected and in Labour heartland places like Salford they have record numbers of councillors (for the tories elected). Salford now has 10 tories. When I was up there in the early 90s I recall there being either 0 or 1 at various times.
Mission accomplished. Now Blair can retire with his legacy secured. It's sad. Will the Labour Party still allow him to leave at a time of his own choosing? Of course they will.
Dude, you're not a Genesis fan too are you?
ReplyDeleteYo Dale! Got the date wrong on the map - getting sloppy like the BBC. But you have the excuse that at your age you have lost a lot of sleep recently.
ReplyDeleteGreat 18DS coverage of the genesis of the Conservatives!
Devon looks like a good place to live....

morrocanroll
No doubt full of smug twats and unsatisfied wives who shag their builders.
ReplyDeleteGreater London ought not to be coloured green. it has a Labour Mayor and many many Labour Councillors and Assembly persons.
ReplyDeleteRob's uncle - the white areas are where there are NO Labour councillors - London is green.

ReplyDeleteWhere is the similar map of the highly-populated areas (less rats as well as less sheep) where there are no Tory councillors at all?
