Bonhams could hardly have chosen a worse date for their auction of the TONY BANKS COLLECTION of political memorabilia, as it clashes with the local elections. However, I'm going to try to toddle along as there are some fascinating artefacts in the 134 lot collection. You can view the catalogue online
HERE. It takes place at Bonhams at 6pm on May 3.
Catalogue, what catalogue?

You have to delve into the Bonhams website for the Catalogue. It is here:

Another champagne socialist with hundreds of grands worth of nick naks paid for out of the public purse.
ReplyDeleteWonder if the Old Labour's conscience is amongst the dusty and long-forgotten artifacts.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine someone living around Connaught Square having to get up very early that day. Vote early, go to the Planning Inspectorate before lunch and then pop down to Bonhams in the arvo..
ReplyDeleteIt's a made hectic social whirl for these residents of Londinium..
Quite why anyone pretending to the title "Tory" would wish to contribute to the enrichment of the estate of this deeply unpleasant, hypocritical bigot of a class-warrior is beyond me. In this household we raised a cheer when the news came when this loathsome creep had shuffled off to Hell.
ReplyDeleteHe seems to have been pretty loaded for someone who never seems to have had a real job.
Never met Tony Banks & frequently disagreed with him. Sometimes he made me laugh, however and that's worth a lot. See you at Bonham's, Iain.
ReplyDeleteOh, thanks for your help finding the catalogue, Aardvark - it was very nice of you to point that out.

Tony Banks was evidently not the man of the people that he pretended to be, quelle surprise. He'd have had a tough job fitting all that precious booty into a council house...
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind Lot 75; the print of Robespierre and Danton. Anyone care to buy it for me?
ReplyDeleteI thought not.
I was going to add my name to the above post but clicked the wrong button.
ReplyDeleteBanks was a complete tosser. He pegged it at least 20 years too late.
ReplyDeleteShame that the other cheek on the arse of the loony left, Livingstone, is still with us.
Why anyone would want to waste money on this stuff is beyond me.
Beneath his public persona Tony Banks was quite decent. I met him only once but one of my friends knew him well.
ReplyDeleteNot having any children and being able to live comfortably on his allowances he was able to spend most of his salary on his art collection.
At one time Tony Banks was very close to Ken Livingstone but, after working with him, he eventually saw through him and they became arch enemies.
ReplyDeleteYet another urban leftie who wanted to impose his narrow beliefs on a wider electorate.
ReplyDeleteHis hatred of all things to do with the countryside and field sports will guarantee him a special place in the hearts of those of us who participate in countryside pursuits.
He will be forgotten very quickly...
My, my many of you seem to think being cultured and collecting artefacts connected to one's interests is some sort of crime! Or is that just when the person doing so is a socialist (who presumably should not be allowed to spend his wages as he sees fit)?
ReplyDeleteIt says alot when people rejoice over the death of others; mostly about how unpleasant the gloaters are rather than the dead. Thanks for reminding me what a load of sanctimonious b******s the Tory Party/hunting fraternity is made up of.
Never met Tony Banks but I suspect he'd be more interesting to talk to than any of you who slate his good taste.
