Timing of the Election Counts
If you want to know which local authorities in England are holding their counts on Thursday night/Friday morning or on Friday morning/afternoon 18 Doughty Street has the LIST.
I'd like to know which tosspots are responsible for ruining the drama of election night by allowing vote counting on Friday.
Tw*ts!
How am I to properly enjoy getting pissed in the small hours and making offensive gestures at the dumbfounded Labour commentators as their faces drop with shock as they get systematically annhilated in all corners of the nation? How can I really go to bed satisified with half of the results unknown? How can they keep us all waiting?
This will allow too much opportunity "pre-spin" for Labour and expectation management. Bollocks to that.
F**king kn*b jockeys!
This will be more like the relentless drudgery of a 5-day test match rather than the thrill of a game of 20/20.
Sod the cost, sod the inconvenience. Bugger postal votes, bugger staffing inconvenience.
With all the stories of electoral fraud and especially that relating to unauthenticated postal votes, I presume that much of the counting is being done on Wednesday afternoon. Why bother to wait till Thursday?
I am rather curious how the whole postal vote malarky is going to work what with it's new security requirements which as have been much blogged upon are to blame for this.
My point is this. When you register now you provide your date of birth & signature. Electoral rules say 20% of these must be checked. No problem so far, i provided all these details. But speaking to a friend who lives in an all postal vote test area he has never provided these details.
So how are the Cumbrian counils going to check for fraud? Perhaps this is the idea
As hardly anyone votes at local elections the counts shouldn't take long. Must be a reason for delaying till Friday e.g. by then everyone will have forgotten about the latest disaster for nulab.

Bring back election night in its full glory!!

Some councils started validating postal votes last Friday and are doing so each day until polling day - and then several times on polling day itself.

ReplyDeleteDamn right, although seeing as I won't be able to stay up on Thursday I'd be lying if I said I was immensely annoyed.
Ah! You need to take the Friday off my friend :-)
ReplyDeleteDespite the huge numbers of counts taking place on the Friday, there's no election coverage on BBC 1 or 2 on the Friday.

If Labour do as badly as the polls suggest, the BBC will be in mourning. Election coverage would be just too upsetting.

ReplyDeleteThere seem to be a lot more councils waiting until the Friday than last time round. Anyone have a real reason for why this is?
