Sir Patrick Cormack Speaks...
The Guardian has a lengthy interview with Sir Patrick Cormack HERE in which they also talk to several members of his local Association. Well worth a read. He faces his Executive again in May. All power to his elbow.
Sir Patrick certainly has got his arse in gear since his 'deselection'. He's been up and down in the chamber like a little fat jack-in-the-box. Pity he couldn't find the energy before.
Personally, I think he's a fool and certainly not the patrician tory he pretends to be.
Giles Brandreth described him as a Sir Bufton Tufton figure and that's about right.
He is without doubt one of the most capable backbenchers. His interventions in parliament are insightful and respected by ther house. It is people like him who are the difference in the two sides of teh house. One side is informed, sincere and relevent and the other side is full of chip-on-shoulder, ignorant, socialist idiots.
Think the problem is that selecting a "modern conservative" hip and trenty candidate will put more people off. People dont want clones - if every one in the Labour party was like Tone and all Tories like Dave then - then what is the point of elected 650odd of them. Might just as well have a directly elected PM and thats it. After all what is the point of MPs to look at legislation if all they are going to go is what they are told. So much for independent thinking eh?

ReplyDeleteIf Gyles Brandreth - a real ass - ran him down he can't be so bad.
