McCain's Time Has Come and Gone
Toby Harnden has a great feature piece in today's Telegraph on the US Presidential race, concentracting in particular on John McCain and Rudy Giuliani. His analysis of McCain's position is spot on. Read it HERE.
Glad you're enjoying yourself Iain but for many of us, talking about candidates is boring beltway stuff. You've only been there a few days and you've gone native!
No doubt the election will get stolen again and we'll end up with the usual guy who's in hock to vested interests.
Surely much of this was known when McCain was invited with a fanfare to the Tory Party conference last year? So is it Guiliani's turn this year - or perhaps Oven-Mitt Romney?
Perhaps the Tory party should look further than a narrow tie-up with the Republican Party, which is risking a generation in the wilderness. Want to appear forward-looking? Then invite Obama to attend...
They're all in hock to vested interests as, to a large extent are our own politicians - by the time they arrive at the upper reaches of the greasy pole anyway. The nature of politics init? We get what we deserve.
McCain is clearly dead in the water and sadly the US is no more likely to elect a mormon as it is a woman or black candidate. Rud wll follow Bush who will be seen as a great president.
Sadly Justin as with every issue gets it wrong a proves that not all the grey cells work
Excellent jurno, first class work in NI. Exposed the scum in S. Armagh in his book "Bandit Country" Refused to be browbeaten by Saville tribunal as a result of publishing the army side of the story on "Bloody" Sunday. Top man & v sound.
Are you saying that McCain has had his chips?

The GOP would be mad not to select Rudey. They were, though, mad to select Bush!

I remember Toby from his time in the Navy. Could tell a few very good stories about him but need bribing with alcohol!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like Cameron was wrong then.

The man is a leftie. While there are Conservative Democrats the fact is that the party is the voice of left-liberalism.

Re Harnden as such rather than this article.
