Hillary 1984

I'm not sure if this is officially endorsed by Barack Obama, but it certainly has a powerful message!

  1. That's brilliant Iain. I'll blog it without giving you a hat tip as people are talking. But later on I'll own up and add one.

  2. I didn't understand a bit of it.

How is this going to play to the po' white trash who ensured that "The Madness of George III" was renamed "The Madness of King George" because preview audiences asked why they hadn't been able to see the first two movies.

  3. That's precisely the kind of stuff I don't want to see repeatedly during Coronation Street.

  4. for anyone wondering, it's actually a piss take out of an Apple advert a few years ago.

  5. I think its a powerful ad, but I hope it isn't endorsed by Barack as he has said a lot about not negative campaigning.

  7. dizzy, it is not a "piss take" of an Apple ad, it is an adaptation.

In fact it is a an adaptation of an update. Note that the hammer-thrower has an iPod...

  8. WW, that's a myth about 'The Madness of King George'.

  10. What point is it trying to make?

What it appears to be is a few badly cut lines taken from a typically American political speech with a load of 1984 imagery - presuambly to try and label Hillary as some sort of totalitarian.

In fact nothing in her actual words suggest that at all.

It's just playing to the Hillary haters without actually saying a thing.

  11. It'll be a busy ol' year, 2008!

First the 'Lympics, then the 'Lections!

Bit early for sledgehammer to crack a nut jokes though; and it won't be any use any of them trying to get me to download a Partly Satirical Broadcast to an Ipod, because I haven't got one.

YouTube will be much more of a serious medium then though.

  12. I see visions of that type of thing everytime a socialist politician opens their mouths, or I watch any BBC output at all.

These days any thinking person should start taking books like 1984 as living fact, rather then possible fiction.

This country has gone from being a place of little Winston Churchills to one of little Winston Smiths, far too quickly for any ordinary person to ignore.

The BBCs "The Trap" shows us quite how insane the States socialist Broadcaster has become. Destroy the BBC before it destroys us all.

  13. I agree with Liberal Neil. It really is silly, pointless, over-produced and has no substance.

I loathe Hillary Clinton, and I think she is very scary in her own way, but satire needs a much sharper blade.

(I also dislike Obama. How is it liberals are always so hectoring and pleased with themselves? The only Democrat I thoroughly approve of is Harry Truman.)

  14. This has been on the web for a couple of weeks now, and has been getting a lot of coverage. Its on Drudge at the moment, with an article saying it is not linked to the Obama camp.

  15. Verity, Liberal Neil,

take a look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYecfV3ubP8&mode=related&search=

or this version with the cheeky iPod update: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zew1bb5Sxk4

The Apple 1984 ad is by Ridley Scott no less.

  16. Roger Thornhill - No. I can't be bothered. Just tell us what point you're making.

  17. Verity -

Surely, you must at least appreciate Joe Lieberman.

Obama didn't approve the ad. It was done on the web by one of his supporters (supposedly). It spoofs an old Apple/Microsoft (IBM?) superbowel add from 20 years ago.

I like it. Hillary the old, drone-like establishment; Obama the new.

I don't trust Hillary (or Bill) because I know them too well. I don't trust Obama because I don't know enough. At any rate, I wouldn't vote Democrat, so neither is losing anything.

    It's McCain or Giuliani.

  18. Oops, Superbowl.

It can be Superbowel, depending on how much you eat.

  19. This is originally an ad that Apple did in 1984 to announce the Macintosh. Directed by Ridley Scott, it was aired once, I think, as the only ad in the Superbowl break. It was a take on '1984' and the screen where HC is babbling away originally had Big Brother on it, and then text ended with something like 'you'll see why 1984 won't be like 1984'

Don't know if this version with HC in it works or not though..

  20. You might not have noticed it, but Bill is in the commercial too. He's one of the guards pursuing the woman as she is running...

  21. Roger Thornhill - No. I can't be bothered. Just tell us what point you're making.

You appear arrogant, lazy and rude, hardly worth the bother. Still, just to explode your ignorant pontificating:

LN -"load of 1984 imagery" no - Hilary's fizz is just inserted into a complete ad.

V "I agree with Liberal Neil. It really is silly, pointless, over-produced and has no substance."

Ridley Scott's acclaimed, if not one of the best of all time, ads "silly, pointless and over-produced"? Well, maybe, if you are simultaneously ignorant of its true origins and consumed with reactionary hate of all things Obama.
