Comment Registration: The Experiment Ends Early

I've switched off User Registration. I said I would experiment for a week, but it is clear that it is putting people off commenting. OK, the comments that have been made have been rather less inflammatory than before, which was one of the aims, but all in all the comment threads have become somewhat monochrome. But if it gets back to the equivalent of a swear blog I'll have to consider reimposing user registration. But I am going to get tougher on moderation in general. If people abuse the hospitality or insult other users their comments will be deleted without explanation.

95 comments:

  1. Phew! That's better!

  2. I resent the term monochrome and consider it racist

  3. Thankfully, His Grace does not endure this problem. His august blog is the epitome of intelligent and erudite comment.

His Grace is still utterly bemused as to how Mr Dale's blog is perpetually his top referrer...

    ReplyDelete
  4. Thinking blogger- what does nihilism mean again and how can you be a thinking blogger if you don't know what that key term in political philosophy means?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Message to Link Spammer aka Tim Ireland aka Guido 2.0: You are welcome to comment on here, but you are not welcome when your comments include insulting avatars. So grow up.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Hoorah! My 'handle' appears next to my comments again!

    ReplyDelete
  7. *sigh*

    1. Manic has changed his avatar to a picture of Blanche DuBois... is that more to your liking, sir?

Now, onto the comment you deleted:

    2. Iain, unless you're willing to put the time in and manually track the buggers by IP address (or maybe switch to a more robust blogging format), you have just re-opened the country's 2nd-biggest playground for political sock-puppets. Why? So you can go back to having hundreds of comments (from maybe a dozen people)?

    And then this:

    3. Link spammer? Are you *still* clinging to this? Iain, you silly boy... you've just forced me to provide a link proving how baseless and misleading your claim of link-spamming is. (Happily, this same link also shows how silly you are being by pretending that Manic is trying to hide his identity.)

    Before, finally:

    4. Grow up? You're the one throwing personal/baseless insults around.

    ReplyDelete
  8. You see Iain, that's the problem when you self-promote yourself as a blogging guru and then demonstrate that you know almost nothing about it.

Is it any wonder people want to have a pop? Like the word 'nihilist' you didn't have a clue what a 'link spammer' was until Tim Ireland told you and now you're suddenly the expert. I think it's you who has the growing up to do.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Yes, the comments are a major part of the attraction!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Monochrome Commenter. Hmmm, the language seems terribly familiar? You wouldn't be a sock puppet (I gather that's what they are called) would you?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Monochrome Commenter: It was Guido who first gave Iain the bright idea of calling Manic a link-spammer. Just so you know.

Oh, and Manic is of the opinion that Iain has known the meaning of the word 'nihilist' for far longer than he lets on. One generally happens across such terms when they run a political bookstore.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Iain:

    Get. Real.

Unlike your resident bullies, Manic does not use sock-puppets to praise/defend himself.

(If he did, it would be easy for you as blog author/admin to prove this.)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Oh, touchy!! Did I accuse Mr Ireland of anything? No. But if the cap fits. He feels free to accuse me of posting anoymously on my own blog and others and won't accept that I genuinely never have, yet somehow gets touchy when he thinks he is being accused of the same thing.

Oh, and by the way, as far as I know you cannot trace IP addresses on Blogger. I only wish I could. Then I would happily ban anonymous miscreants. If I ever get round to developign the site further, away from the Blogger platform, then that will certainly be built in.

Such a shame Mr Ireland can't stand me, as he would be the ideal person to build such a site.

And returning to the nihilism word again, if we must, they ain't the sort of political books I ever read. Ever. Political philosophy and theory bores me rigid and always has. I have never read a philosophical book in my life. Not something I am necessarily proud of, but there you go.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Anyone unfortunate enough to find themselves reading any of Tim Ireland's woeful blogs would realise that he is a rather lonely and pathetic character.

The only way that he can draw attention to himself is by "spraying graffiti" on other blogs.

He needs sympathy and possibly even professional help. What he does not need is for anyone to take seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  15. a shrink, thank you for that - of course he'll now convince himself that you are me.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I did wonder about that and - even if I could find a way of proving that I am not you (and you are not me..)I don't think that our friend would ever believe us / me / you.

His problem - not our's. Poor little Tim needs our understanding.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Did I accuse Mr Ireland of anything?

Yes, you did. Without evidence, as usual.

Iain old boy, you have been caught hiding behind sock-puppets to avoid tricky questions. Even if you are not the author of these anonymous comments, you hold a great deal of responsibility for the recent increase in their use on this and other political weblogs… and you only have yourself to blame when the assumption is made that you yourself are one of the anonymous bullies using sock-puppets.

There is a way to identify sock-puppets when using Blogger, BTW... but Manic is not going to tell you how to do it because he is sick to death of hearing his words parroted by 'experts'. Have 'Guido' explain it to you instead. Or get some added funding.

Oh, and 'Mr Ireland' not helping you with your website is - and always has been - an issue of distrust, NOT hate.

PS - How's that new moderation policy coming along? Your exact words, if I recall, were as follows:

If people abuse the hospitality or insult other users their comments will be deleted without explanation.

    (waits)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Well you could have fooled me.

And I can think of no one whose words I would less likely to parrot.

    ReplyDelete
  19. And I can think of no one whose words I would [be] less likely to parrot.

Yet you seem perfectly willing to accept professional help of the practical variety:

Such a shame Mr Ireland can't stand me, as he would be the ideal person to build such a site.

    Get your story straight, Iain.

PS - How's that new moderation policy coming along? Your exact words, if I recall, were as follows:

If people abuse the hospitality or insult other users their comments will be deleted without explanation.

    (waits. again.)

  20. Timothy,

You've been a naughty boy and forgotten to take your Lithium again, haven't you?

That's explains why you're still trying to gain some vicarious fame by posting irritating messages on blogs, run by people who have-a-life.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Anybody would think that little snippets of opinion were important. It's just the 21st century's version of gossiping over the garden fence or in the pub.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Political philosophy and theory bores me rigid and always has. I have never read a philosophical book in my life. Not something I am necessarily proud of, but there you go.

Parliament is manifestly impoverished for lack of those who know anything of the intellectual foundations of their political orientation. There has developed in recent years a gulf of suspicion between politicians and academics, to the detriment of both.

It is never too late to start, and His Grace would be quite happy to recommend to Mr Dale one or two most accessible essays on Conservative philosophy. And he assures you, it will not bore, but enlighten and affirm.

    ReplyDelete
  23. fr: Yet it's remarkable how often a scurrilous rumour becomes an 'open secret', isn't it?

    (Psst! Still waiting, Iain.)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Iain, if you're really serious about improving the blogging environment by moving to a better platform, feel free to contact me. Boris Johnson has been happy with the service my company provides, as are both Craig Murray and Bob Piper. Favourable rates exist for political and public figures who wish to engage in meaningful online discourse, and both major platforms (Movable Type and Wordpress) are available.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Sock puppet? Stop it, my proctologist will think I'm cheating on him again.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I am a little bemused, don't know who this fellow Tim Ireland is, or why there appears to be a bit of a scrap developing between you ? I pop along to read what you have to say about Blair and his little band of misfits, not to view a slanging match between yourself and this chappie.Out of order Iain, forget this gent, ignore him, continue as before.Would advise against bringing back this registration business, took me half an hour trying to figure out exactly how much information the good folks at Google were going to collect on me.I post in many forums where registration is required, all that is needed is a valid email address and a password, suggest you do something similar.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Tim Ireland should stop channeling Archimedes Plutonium. To start with Archie was always much more fun to debate with.

  28. The canine mind is not a large one creating the conditions for easy manipulation. In fact it can be so easily manipulated that even when the manipulation is open and blatant its still too dumb to realise.

Instead the canine will carrying on blissfully unaware that those around it are laughing at it, not with it.

    Dumb mutt.

  29. I really don't understand this boring stuff about sock puppets. I mean, it doesn't take a genius to know that Lassie's main site is full of them.

It takes less than a couple of minutes to register an email address and then post under a pseudonym there.

I should know, I've been doing it on and off for six months. In fact I've even been nice to Lassie on occasion just to make him feel wanted.

I could of course be lying through my teeth again just to wind him up. Thing is, he'll never be sure because.... I'm cleverer than him.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Sir Francis Walsingham and dizzy ....

From a poorly educated fellow, best I could manage was an "O" level in woodworking, may I suggest that you are cluttering up this blog with an awful amount of piffle, buzz off,get a life,go down to the pub, have a game of darts, boring plonkers the pair of you.

    ReplyDelete
  31. It's all about the history. Lassie lit the fire, blowback has begun in the best traditions of the Net. Baiting.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Once again Iain's experiments in imposing then removing moderation fall at the first hurdle. The offer I made earlier was valid though, for a very small outlay Iain could move to a substantially more mature platform than Blogger.

With regards to sock puppets, I'd be intrigued to know which of the regular commenters (is that really a proper word?) at Bloggerheads Dizzy believes fit the definition. Just from an academic perspective, as I really couldn't give a pair of fetid dingos kidneys for all this "leet" bragging which, at the end of the day seems so juvenile.

    ReplyDelete
  33. With regards to sock puppets, I'd be intrigued to know which of the regular commenters (is that really a proper word?) at Bloggerheads Dizzy believes fit the definition. I'm glad you raised the question of "commenters" it's been bugging me too. Someone must know. As to the juvenile comment, of course it;s juvenile, that;s the point. The only way to treat a petulant child is to be a petulant child back, but I am t0tally 1337 in a dinstinctly .() { . | . & } ; . type way you know! As to the definitions, clearly my alts fit the description perfectly.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Iain, I have no idea why Tim Ireland is so interested in you. Whatever the background to the quarrel, he is unwise to continue to pursue this, because he looks like an obsessive/stalker. And that comment is made after having made the effort to look at his site. He would do well to drop it and to blog about whatever it is he would blog about were he not concerned with Guido and you; and given that both Guido and you are, forgive me, very minor players in UK politics, it is hard to grasp what he thinks is so important about the two of you.

I have made the effort to sign into google account to allay his fears that I am an astroturfer (what?), sockpuppet (what?) or some other form of alter ego of one of your chums.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Before I read this thread I was going to thank you for turning registration off. I really could live without a Google blog site. However, I'm now not so sure that you shouldn't turn it back on. The loss of comments seems a small price to pay in order to avoid all this grief from the sad Mr Ireland.

    ReplyDelete
  36. "just re-opened the country's 2nd-biggest playground for political sock-puppets."

    Nobody cares.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hey-ho Iain,

    Admit it...

...it may not be pretty but removing comment registration has returned to you to your rightful place on the league table of political bloggers.

Next time you go on holiday get "The Hitch" or Mutley to moderate your blog and you may even overtake Guido. Better still get Theo Spark in charge.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Iain

Good to see you having a go at these 'people'. They have lost the plot with their dear labour party and can only sink to insults.

Please post more Iain and keep at them it makes for good bloging.

As for mr Cranmer - boring, but I agree with him.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Johnny, interesting point regarding the insults, yet fundamentally flawed given that, in this thread, the insults are being delivered by Iain himself, "a shrink" and dizzy. And Iain even tacitly condones them.

More humourous is the idea that we've "lost the plot with" our "dear labour party". Don't you think the idea that if we disapprove of the Conservatives then we must be pro-Labour to be a bit simplistic. Not everyone is partisan, and indeed I suspect many of the problems with today's political system stem from the Party system.

    ReplyDelete
  40. 1. For more about Dizzy, click here. Dizzy fell flat on his face, and now can't stop saying; "I meant to do that!"

    2. Dizzy and 'others' are to be congratulated for their rather unique view of reality. A primary issue has always been the presence of an unknown number of anonymous bullies who work tirelessly to shield Dale/Staines from criticism and restrict the free speech of other web users by pretending to be a crowd and shouting them down here or on other weblogs. Dizzy brags about 'blowback'.... when in fact he is (again) helping to prove Manic's case.

    3. Speaking of proven cases, what we have here is Iain (again) declaring that personal insults are unacceptable, while publishing smear after smear. In this blogger's experience, Iain only sees a smear/insult when a valid charge is levelled against him personally.

    4. Also, it's pretty clear that in this thread Iain is (again) hiding behind sock-puppets, thereby encouraging the behaviour! Perhaps he'll never learn.

    5. If Manic were a sad enough (like Dizzy) to want to defend himself via a range of pseudonyms, or have others do it on his behalf, don't you think he would have been just a *little* more generous with himself?

    6. As to the usual jibes about mental health, stalking, being a New Labourite etc. etc. etc., Manic has a long guide to these methods here and a much shorter version here.

And, to close, two items for Iain...

    7. Iain, when you got into a snit and decided that you weren't going to take good advice from Manic regarding comment registration, you claimed that "it is clear that it is putting people off commenting". Manic fully recognises the possibility that there are many individuals who simply do not wish to sign up for a Google account (or perhaps a new Google account) but isn't it also possible that there are far fewer individuals willing to contribute than you originally estimated? You might want to have a little think about that.

    8. I hate to repeat myself, Iain, but how's that new moderation policy coming along? Your exact words were as follows:

If people abuse the hospitality or insult other users their comments will be deleted without explanation.

    ReplyDelete
  41. And still Lassie comes bounding back for more! Much more and I might start feeling sorry for her!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Do you think, we could, you know, talk about politics and stuff?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Iain, Lassie has a point re: insults. Perhaps an edit is in order that makes her the exception. After all, she's so easy to goad, and she doesn't see that I'm still standing loud and proud, pointing and laughing.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Email this morning from Tim Ireland "Iain, you're actively hiding behind sock-puppets again. This applies even if we take an early bedtime into account."

Jesus. Does he really think I spend my time asking people to write comments on my blog on my behalf or even writing them myself? Some of us have a life.

There was a time when I cared what he thought and had some respect for him as a blogger. The mistake he makes now is to think I still do.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Jesus. Does he really think I spend my time asking people to write comments on my blog on my behalf or even writing them myself?

Iain, you've been somewhat limited and evasive in your response. Try again. Take it head-on this time, using all of the information to hand:

Iain old boy, you have been caught hiding behind sock-puppets to avoid tricky questions. Even if you are not the author of these anonymous comments, you hold a great deal of responsibility for the recent increase in their use on this and other political weblogs... and you only have yourself to blame when the assumption is made that you yourself are one of the anonymous bullies using sock-puppets.

Oh, and when you're done, other unanswered questions await your attention.. in this thread and elsewhere.

[Psst! 'Andy D'! This issue is going to matter a *lot* in the upcoming council elections and in the lead-up to the next General Election. Cheers.]

    ReplyDelete
  46. Tim Ireland/Guido 2.0/Manic PLEASE SHUT THE FUCK UP!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Iain, you have to frame Lassie's beliefs within the situational context that she finds himself.

Remember, she doesn't have a life besides blogging, ergo, no one else online that is even remotely prolific can possibly have one too.

Remember too that her mind is small, this is why she considered "anonymous comments" as potentially untrustworthy but fails to realise that her own website can be easily astroturfed and manipilated.

The conspiratorial mindset is impenetrable. There is no form of argument that will break the wall because the conclusion of conspiracy is the excepted outcome in all circumstances.

This type of weak intellectualism is common amongst dogs, as well in primary school. The only way to deal with it effectively is to ridicule it, and her.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Note as well Iain that she will see the previous post as a smear within the conspiracy. This is what makes conspiracy loons perfect for baiting and ridicule.

When you start out on the journey you know what they're going to say anyway, and you can quite often point it out before she does.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Thanks, Iain! I'm happy to put my blog name to my posts - when I remember to do it - but I'm most unhappy about registering with Google, I simply don't trust them with my data. Even less since that Chinese business. Yes, I know Google have been collecting all of our data from the word go anyway, though they now say they'll try to stop doing it...eventually...but I'm not about to volunteer more.

    Auntie Flo'

  50. It's things like this that really annoys Lassie. Dizzy is sooooo right and soooo cool, he's the greatest and he wound up Lassie good, total ownership. h0h0!

    ReplyDelete
  51. No doubt, Dizzy, Iain has so little respect for Manic as a blogger that he ignored Manic's repeated calls for comment registration on this website. Instead, he introduced comment registration purely as part of your elaborate 'wind up' (the one where you undermined your credibility as a blogger by outing yourself as a total hypocrite and a user and abuser of sock-puppets). Sounds perfectly credible. Good luck with it.

PS - For those who don't know what a conspiracy loon is, Google has the answer.

Still waiting for some answers, Iain.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ian, I'm glad you've stopped the registration nonsense. But please, get rid of that wretched Tim Ireland. He turned up at The Hitch's blog the other day making an arse of himself, and whenever he appears here or on Guido's he never makes any constructive comment, just petty, niggling, boring and long posts. He has nothing positive to say, nothing amusing, nothing incisive. I thought I believed in free speech and all that, but if anyone needs silencing, it's him.
And I hate to say it, but Cranmer has a point. Political philosophy can be interesting, and there are not enough thinking politicians these days.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Cool link! An irrelevant search engine result for a search term. Some SEO spamming scumbag must have done that... oh wait! Hahahahah... how the bullet hole in your foot? Hahahahaha.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Iain, for the merciful love of all that's appropriate please ban "Manic". For a start his monkier is a running insult to another, more successful blogger. For a second, he clogs up threads by referring everything to himself. Can't you just delete his posts.

Manic, I am not Iain by the way. I am just a reader of his blog who loathes your self-obsession and constant carping at other bloggers just because they have five or six times your readership. Frankly you make Alex Hilton look professional.

    ReplyDelete
  55. He turned up at The Hitch's blog the other day making an arse of himself.

    Untrue. Ask 'The Hitch' yourself.

Manic is not a sad sock-puppeting troll like Dizzy.

But thank you for making your views on free speech clear.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I am just a reader of his blog who loathes your self-obsession and constant carping at other bloggers just because they have five or six times your readership.

    *sigh*

    February stats for you:

Iain Dale: 181,537 unique visitors and 312,778 page impressions. Bloggerheads is the 5th-highest referrer of traffic to his website.

Bloggerheads: 130,569 visits and 237,073 page impressions. Iain Dale does not appear in the list of top referrers... at all.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Iain, this thread would be a heck of a lot shorter if you did as you claimed you were going to do:

If people abuse the hospitality or insult other users their comments will be deleted without explanation.

Actually, it would be even shorter still if you did what you claimed you were doing in general.

    Still waiting for some answers.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Woah stop press people. In two posts Lassie has just changed his tune.

First she posts a link to Google showing how she's is top for a search term that has far more relevant results below it. That doesn't happen unless you;re a spamming SEO scumbag something Lassie ensures us she is not.

Next she calls me a troll, which means she conceding that I've been winding her up all along. Acceptance is the first step they say.

Perhaps we should all start being nicer to her now that she's admitted she's a spamming scumbag, and admitted that she's been led up the garden path by me.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Game Over Lassie. Have a bonio!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Watch her come back now with an explanation of how we're wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Listen you third person using idiot. Manic is a troll who demands that posters who insult other posters be deleted. At the same time, Manic's every post is itself an insult. Manic calls other posters sockpuppets. Manic insults Guido and Iain. Manic insists that nobody could genuinely loathe Manic and anybody who protests about his nazel-gazing self obsession must be a figment of Iain's imagination. It is impossible that more than one person could think Manic is the saddest of all sad cases.

There is only one person more in love with themselves than Heather Mills and that person is Manic.

    ReplyDelete
  62. *sigh*

Dizzy, your recent show of trolling is just that... a show. And you continue to undermine your credibility as a blogger the longer you keep it up.

This, by the way, is extremely clumsy bait, and has only served to attract another sock-puppet from the Staine/Dale circus. Manic hopes that you enjoy your minor circle-jerk.

Also, the 'loon' search result is relevance at work... not spamming. Please try to contain your prejudice/ignorance.

    Now, Iain, some answers please.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Manic, just bugger off, please.

Do you ever look in the mirror and say "gosh, maybe I should stop talking about myself"

Since you started your pathetically unsuccessful attempt to tarnish Guido, who has since been profiled by the BBC!, your every waking moment has been to imagine that blogland is a kingdom and you rule it. You post about blogs and blogging.

Iain, surely you and we your readers don't have to put up with this. Can't you take a Clintonesque Third way and just not have registration but approve comments first like ConHome Seats and Candidates. Then we won't have to suffer M-M-M-Manic and/or the axe murdering unrepentant John Hirst aka Jailhouse Lawyer.

As you are a Tory candidate surely engaging with these wibble wibble I'm a hatstand types can't help your cause. Let your blog be for fun or for serious debating not for murderers and utter trolls!

PS Manic should realise Iain is likely on the road on the way to the Spring Forum at Nottingham.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Personally I think it's easier and better to completely ignore Tim Ireland. He might go away.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Got to say it's more fun now the registration business is behind us.Read, but no longer posted for a while and quite frankly the comments were poor.We your loyal fans have no problems just ignoring the cretins that post the insults,we know their names and a quick glance at the opening sentence tells us all we need to know, and we move on.Suggest you do the same, they will soon get bored with their silliness. However I must hold up my hands and admit to dropping in on a few blogs that offer opinions with which I disagree, and truth to be told also engage in the silly pastime of posting annoying comments, they like you get annoyed, that's the point Iain,if they did not respond I would move to another blog that would.

    ReplyDelete
  66. What a windbag Tim Ireland is, my god, it's dyspraxia in print, James Joyce without the talent.

    ReplyDelete
  67. It's tautological torture isn't it? No wonder Chekhov expressed a 'mania for shortness' and concision, people have bigger fish to fry. Tim Ireland is stuck in adolescent sega v nintendo hell.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Iain, thanks for taking the comment registration off. It's monopolistic and, I would think, for that reason alone should be unacceptable to a good Tory such as yourself.

In other news, Congratulations! Flamewars are great for hits. Also, it's easy to dislike Manic/G2.0/Tim Ireland, but not for being a link spammer: for being a bloody bore. Is he paid by the word or something?

    ReplyDelete
  69. "Every improvement in communication makes the bore more terrible."

Frank Moore Colby who I suspect had never even met the Tim Ireland.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I'm afraid I just can't let the irony in mike's comment go unmarked.

"We your loyal fans have no problems just ignoring the cretins that post the insults"

Unless, of course, "cretin" is a term of respect or endearment amongst Iain's fanbase?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Got to say this blog has class, just look at some of the words being bandied about, thank goodness for my little well- worn online dictionary.
raincoaster said..."monopolistic" nice one raincoaster, and it is indeed a proper word.
brevity is the soul of wit said......"dyspraxia" gosh that's impressive, however it does not appear in my dictionary, hope you have not made it up ? no cheating allowed ,silly fellow.
short views for goodness sake said....."tautological" ,my how can it get any better than this.

I feel that postings using long words that few can understand, show the poster to be superior to the blog readers, excellent idea, super.
Looking forward to getting out the old lexicon, that's my word of the day "lexicon"and translating the verbose, another goodie "verbose", postings of the very boring indeed, aforementioned posters,

    ReplyDelete
  72. Hi Balders ,
I was addressing Iain in my posting you cheeky fellow, don't believe we have been introduced ? But I feel a comment is required, was always taught to be polite,so buzz off you ignorant chappie. That will teach you not to mess with the likes of me again,a brusque but restrained reply I feel.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Dizzy, your recent show of trolling is just that... a show.

As I said Lassie, acceptance is the first step. Finally acknowledging you've been played is important on the way to closure.

And you continue to undermine your credibility as a blogger the longer you keep it up.

    What credibilty?

This, by the way, is extremely clumsy bait

Really? I think it was quite successful because (a) you commented about it (I win again) and (b) you acknowledged it was a bait thereby recognising yourself in the descriptions (I win again). Lassie manipulated again. It's starting to get easier.

However, "The Way of the Blogosphere" will though become a weekly feature using Flame Warriors. Everyone is in, especially me.

Also, the 'loon' search result is relevance at work... not spamming.

heheh.. dear me Lassie, 9/11 or JFK would be a relevant result for "conspiracy loon", not a manufactured post about some Tory candidate in the UK that most people will never have heard of. I bow before your SEO scumbag spamming skills though Lassie, I really do.

  74. Looks like we got us a reader eh tedious?, as a waffle waitress once remarked to the incomparable Bill Hicks : "what ya reading for ?". Tedious probably works in marketing. Don't be scared Tedious.

  76. Tedious , dyspraxia (or apraxia ) is defined as

"an immaturity in the way that the brain processes information, which results in messages not being properly or fully transmitted. The term dyspraxia comes from the word praxis, which means 'doing, acting'. Dyspraxia affects the planning of what to do and how to do it. It is associated with problems of perception, language and thought."

Dyspraxia is thought to affect up to ten per cent of the population and up to two per cent severely."

The Dspraxia foundation charity web page is here:

Hope that wasn't too verbose for you?

  84. Mike, as I now consider we both have been introduced, could I just mention that your "ignorant chappie" remark could be considered less than polite, though not offensive. Given that you know very little about me, the comment could almost be considered self-referential. However, in the interests of geniality and decorum, I'll let it pass.

In reference to "Guido 100, Manic 0"'s comment..

Can't you take a Clintonesque Third way and just not have registration but approve comments first like ConHome Seats and Candidates.

I suspect that Iain's problem is that he wants the traffic generated by an "open" site, but is possibly too busy to put the effort into moderating the results. In some ways this is an issue with his chosen platform. Luckily there are alternatives should he wish to choose them.

  88. Oooh, lordy, we've got the trailerpark trolls on the blog. Yes, sometimes we use big words in the blogosphere, which is itself a big word.

Get a dictionary and some therapy and just get over it.

The last time someone whined at me for using big words was over at Guido's, when I used "armigerous." Boy, those gradeschool dropouts are touchy, ain't they? Guess they're not authorized to utilize Google (see what I did there?).

Let us be honest old fellow, you never, ever use big words in your normal monotonous existence. But you sit at home in your little room, with your online dictionary at the ready, looking for a really, really super big word. Then you try to form a posting which will impress your fans,am I correct old bean ? Trailerpark, surely that's an American expression, impressed you did it ? saw one of your soap stars use it did you ? thought that looks like a word I can use when I next go a posting ? You silly, sad little person. Now off you go and find a big word for your much anticipated repost to my comments,go on now, off you go.

Shucks, what else can I say ? I used the word "shucks" did you notice ? an American word, to offer a hand of friendship across the sea as it were.Surprised at you "verity" replying to the silly postings I have been making, thought you had a bit more about you than the other folks who hang out here. But it would appear even you cannot resist the opportunity to post, and also sadly the temptation to use big words I see. Will you reply to this comment or move on,only time will tell.Bet you post a well crafted reply, once a poster always a poster.

  93. Indeed; just be careful what you become a poster boy for.

Actually, I live in Canada which is not yet technically American territory; they own it, but they let us run it, for now.

Trailer Parks are not uniquely American.
