Sticks and Stones...

Over the last few days the comment sections of this blog have been dominated by New Labour trolls who are making all sorts of ridiculous accusations. It's when I read this sort of rubbish that I know it's hitting home. The latest hilarious one says The Observer are doing a two page spread exposing how this blog and 18 Doughty Street are funded and the methods I use to get my stories. Let me tell you a secret. My blog isn't funded - just like virtually every other blog, it's hosted free and doesn't cost me a bean. And as for 18 Doughty Street it's owned by one person, Stephan Shakespeare. One commenter today reckons it's either funded by the CIA or Christian fundamentalists. You really couldn't make this rubbish up. But someone has and they need to get a life. Let's throw Mossad into the equation too, shall we?

Apparently I am also about to be sued by "someone big". I'm warned by this anonymous poster (aren't they all) that my house had better be in my wife's name. Well I know this may come as a shock but first of all I don't own a house and second of all - and perhaps most shocking of all - I don't have a wife.

So keep lobbing the grenades over guys. You know what they say about ducks' backs and water...

  1. Iain, never mind those New Labour trolls. I'll let you in on a little secret: it's badgers behind the scenes at New Labour, and over at the Blues, we've got some pretty sound people involved! They're just jealous. ;)

  2. You are spot on. It has always been the case if one is winning the arguement or your opponents have lost the arguement and indeed the plot, they turn nasty.

Just like the bully in the playground, they turn nasty.

The trouble is for too long this government have got away with "murder". Now the chips are down, they have no where to go, except turn nasty.

  3. Almost as annoying as all the nutters who preponderate conspiracy theories about the BBC on here, eh Iain?

  4. Who owns Dale Towers then? (out of interest)

As for you having a wife, ha ha ha......

  5. Keep up the good work Iain. They were threatening Guido aswell the other day.

It just proves that they are now well and truly on the run.

It's approaching the endgame for New Labour methinks.

  6. So bj, what's all this about your friend Ms Kearney being "tipped off" that Yates investigation will result in no charges?

  7. oh Iain come on it's just the hustings ,did I see wedding ring when you were on the telly? ,I know I did see a shirt,

  8. Don't let them bother you Iain - there's been some very strange, very bitter people posting on here over the last couple of days. Hopefully they will piss off back to their own (deserted) "blogs", rather than continuing to lower the standard of this one.

  9. Ha, ha, ha, I'm glad you have a sense of humour because the NuLab blogger buggers have lost theirs. Unfortunately the bad news is only just beginning for them!

    ReplyDelete
  10. The truth will out - hopefully out NuLab for good!

Keep up the good work - their response just proves that there is truth in what you are saying

"Someone big is also planning to sue Dale, so he'd better check that his house is in his wife's name."

The only big person I can think of who is that well informed is Prescott.

Speaking of him.... is he starting to wonder if he could make it to the top after all?

  16. (Psst! Manic has a secret to share with the world; blogs may be free, but time is money.)

Iain! Manic has been awfully polite about this and many other things... but he is getting sick and tired of the many ruses and excuses you use to dodge pertinent questions.

    ReplyDelete
  17. {The only big person I can think of who is that well informed is Prescott.}

I thought John Prescott was rather notoriously quite small.

  18. I am absolutely with you here Iain (sorry to be so familiar).

Your site is a bastion of free speech.

Too many people in this country have lost sight of what it is to be free.

Rather like the other children in Oliver Twsits orphanage - they have lost sight of what is their's by birth: In this instance an opinion!

So, despite disagreeing with you on many issues, I Salute you for providing an honest, open, and free forum where people who can at times feel almost physically sick at the incompetence and dis-honour of our government today can at least feel we are not alone.

If it is felt that you have libelled someone - let them sue.

But I rather think it is a case of the truth hurting.

    Keep it up!

    p.s.
On a more serious note - I actually feel that if blogs and other non establishment forums prove as effective at exposing govt lies as they potentially appear; then this will be good for politicians. They will be forced to tell the truth.

Wouldn't that be better for everyone?

  19. The bit that shocked me was that your a tory in your 40's and you don't own a house!

  20. Iain, returning to your theme of Tone "loosing it" -
    1. he's agreed to be interviewed by Humphries tomorrow at 8.10 - surely a strange decision at this time given that he's spent the last 10 years avoiding such "heavy-weight" interviews, preferring the GMTV sofa, and the Noddy garden.

2.He seems to have lost a cap from one of his lower teeth - giving off a definite aura of decline and decay, just as he is trying to turn on the "winning" grin.

Don't let Guido make you eat another hat just yet.

    ReplyDelete
  21. 1. Iain, when you allow unregulated comments on your website (and associate yourself with people who take liberties with such things), you do NOT have a lot of credibility when you receive timely interventions from anonymous 'backers' or 'trolls'. This is not a conspiracy theory BTW, it is a cold, hard, reality. (Interestingly, Iain is not yelling "Conspiracy Theorist!" at anonymous contributors claiming this is the work of New Labour astro-turfers.)

    2. Hey, are you planning on suing The Register?

    3. If you are, can you at least take a minute to answer my question first? Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  22. 4. Anyone proclaiming me to be a New Labour astro-turfer (or even a Brownite) is going to end up looking pretty fucking stupid. Perhaps this is why such people remain anonymous. Or perhaps not.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Gah! Manic slipped out of Guido-esque third-person. It is time for bed!

Manic looks forward to his answers in the morning, Iain.

  29. Fine now we know who funds Iain Dale's blog but how do the dark forces manage to fund 20'000'000 others?
Even my cat knows that blogs are a force for democracy. Yes you are getting there Iain, interesting times indeed.

  30. The problem with T*m Irel**d is that his self-worth is so low and need for attention so great, that he has to Troll round the comments section of other people's blogs in order to get noticed. (As nobody reads his own blog, he has to ride on the back of other's-it's like a form of bloggers spamming or 'blamming' a desparate method of using another bloggers comments section to try and direct traffic to your own ) It must be gutting really, especially for someone as needy as Tim, putting all that time and effort into a project and being met by a wall of indifference. The reason why no-one is interested in him or his site is because he is a bit of an obsessive bore whose ideas are as dated as that leather jacket he wore when he tried to get himself arrested (another sad attention seeking stunt disguised as political activism-). His site is also badly designed and laid out, to the point of being unreadable.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Dear Ian,
I have read your blog for about 6 months and this is the first time I have felt compelled to write.
I have no connections with Westminster, or the media and lost faith in the BBC's supposed impartiality several years ago. I have enjoyed how you and 18 Doughty Street have exposed the most mendacious government ever.
Please keep up the good work and ignore the brave/self important anonymous writers who keep complaining to you

    ReplyDelete
  32. Grenades? Ducks? Water? Control the imagery please, Iain. It is funny - in a bad way - this instinct to smear. After all, even if you were a CIA front, you might still be right.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I agree with big andy. I don't always agree with you Iain but you are always non hysterical in your comments and do not descend to vitriol (which, as my old English master used to say along with swearing shows a poor vocabulary)

I tune into you daily to find out what is going on as you are without the media 'spin'.

Obviously the truth hurts -as they say. Mainly I think because these fantasists can't take reality.

Someone has to speak up for the 'man on the Clapham omnibus' or these days -the man and woman on the overcrowded, over expensive, very late comuter train.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think New Labour are in full-blown panic mode. The latest arrogant blather from Ladies Blears and Harman (based on the ludicrous thesis that it's the _investigation_ that is eroding trust, not the corruption or suspicion of perverting the course of justice!!!) serves to illustrate this. All I can say is, if the CIA are involved, they are currently plotting against the PM!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Isn't it strange how some posters on sites like this forget that this is not the 'impartial' ha-ha BBC, and that people such as Iain can write whatever they like (within the libel laws) and be as one-sided, biased and prejudiced as they want.

Don't like it?, then don't read it!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Methinks Iain Dale doth protest too much. His blog is good, and there is a free exchange of ideas here, which is refreshing. But sometimes, and I hate to say this because I admire what he does, he is prone to either spinning very small or irrelevant stories as if they were big stories always (surprise, surprise) against Labour. He also sometimes "gets things wrong" but I have very rarely seen him either make a correction or agree his facts were wrong, and I have followed this blog closely for over a year. My overall impression is of a good, effective tory politician, kicking over the stones and getting very good results but also prone to finding his own truths and acting defensively when challenged. He also adopts the pretense of being equitable, professing to like various leftish people, but this appears to be a front, as it nearly always wraps with nasty attacks at some point. A good piece of work for Tory propaganda but hardly a samizdat breakthrough in the battle for freedom! Minor stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Don't the libel laws apply to blogs? Some of the stuff on this blog steers pretty close to the wind - it would be surprising if lawyers weren't interested and whilst the threats may be just empty, I am sure Iain keeps a weather eye on such things and frequently conflabs with his solicitors. I would be worried about running this onshore for one thing - US laws are much more pro-freedom of speech. No doubt NL will soon be legislating against those nasty blogs which "corrode public trust" or "cause terrorism" or some such.

    ReplyDelete
  38. And, er, Iain smells of wee! Yes, that's rght...

    Sorry, that's all I have.

    Yours,

    New Labour Troll ;-)

(Joking aside, keep up the good work Iain)

  39. I love the way that Manic (Guido 2.0) is so cock a hoop at his investigative journalism.

    1) Iain Dale, Conservative Candidate is right wing
    2) Tim, owner of Conservative Home, is a Conservative
    3) Donal Blaney, one time Young Conservatives high flyer, is also right of centre

The investigative skills to work those out are truly impressive.

Oh and Iain, if the CIA, Mossad or Halliburton do contact, I'd love some funding.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Well put.

I think that anonymous poster should shoot their researcher, if they actually bothered to any research in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Don't you think it is about time you found yourself a nice young woman and 'settled down' you don't want to be getting old by yourself and having to go to the supermarket yourself and do all your cooking and there'd be someone there when you get home and she could help with the ironing and ask 'had a good day' dear then think of all the funtime friskies not to mention the holidays and you might even want to hear the patter of tiny feet, not that I'm rushing to have grandchildren you understand but none of us is getting any younger and you wouldn't want to reach old age all alone and end up being discovered by the dogs like in that Bridget Jones film I mean it's not like I want to make decisions for you dearie but you know I'm just thinking about you, I just want you to be happy.......

  42. From the Times today:

Huh? I thought partisan relations were illegal for a charity.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anon 8:28 - plenty of ISPs and website companies like blogging sites will pull a site on just receiving a legal threat from a solicitor. No need to even sue for most of them - bunch of chickens. I'm afraid the British web is no place for true freedom of speech. This is presumably why Iain chose a US-based blogging site to run his pages.

  44. Thats labour for you, fear and intimidation. Its good to know you are making them uncomfortable.

  46. I'm reminded of an amusing quote by a member of the University Labour Club to a gay Tory friend of mine:

"Why on earth are you a Tory? Don't you know that they hate you??"

    ReplyDelete
  47. The answer to the "don't you know they all hate you" question is "no - my Fagmaster at public school said it was the right thing to do when he caned me three times a day".

Oh tory tory tory boy Dale, what a pathetic little wimp you are under all that pompous opinionated blather. A few trolls and you break into a cold sweat. "Please please please help me with these nasty blog posters who don't like me" is the gist of your posting. "Oh weally Alan, please don't throw my teddy out of the window". "I'm sorry Piers, you've gone too far. Lick my boots and I won't whip you."

  49. (Psst! Manic has a secret to share with the world; blogs may be free, but time is money.)

Typical NuLab thinking, no-one should do anything without being paid handsomely.

Who cares how Iain pays his rent? He's not living at the taxpayer's expense or holding elected office so what right to we have to know?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Well I never. I hope you are all Rapture Ready down there in Langley Iain.

The big question is of course will Tony be "left behind"?

  51. These people can see their taxpayer funded good life coming to an end and they are lashing out in sheer desperation.New Labour may haved ditched marxism but they have more of a stalinist mindset than the old party ever did.

    ReplyDelete
  52. It's the end of the regime and the coutiers are casting around in anger for someone to blame for their predicament rather than themselves.
Guys - if you hadn't been so sleazy and deceitful then people would cut you some slack. It's 1996 again and a sea-change of opinion is taking place to throw these ba*tards out.
After 10 years of NuLab incompetence we get a huge amount of violent and street crime, people's property being pillaged from a beach after a shipwreck, a criminal justice system in meltdown, prisons full to bursting, thick, ignorant and racist "Celebs" dominating our TV demonstrating the depths our society has sunk to and finally a PM questioned by the police and suspected of involvement in a number of serious criminal offences. It's over. The best spin doctors and pollsters cannot now resurrect the corpse of NuLab. Bye Bye

    ReplyDelete
  53. C'mon Iain tell us the truth, who's the lucky errrr Lady?

    ReplyDelete

  56. What is really needed is an arrest within the next week, otherwise the momentum is lost and Blair's position will be stronger than ever.

The second interview was the high-water mark I fear.

    ReplyDelete
  57. How amusing!

Threats to sue are empty bluffs. Tom "Mouth of Sauron" Kelly must really be at his wits end to threaten Peter Oborne. Likewise, the threats to the Dale fortune are clearly born of desperation!

It is ironic how the "New Labour" that was created by media hacks has completely lost control of the debate, which is now monopolised by libertarian conservative blogs!

In defence of this site and Guido's - I have had far more luck posting on these sites than on Nick Robinson's blog. I suspect the few Labour-sympathetic blogs (are there any?) are equally on-message.

    Thomas Jefferson:

When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

    Voltaire:

PS - Well said, anonymous @ 10:12 AM

    ReplyDelete
  62. Ed, Manic did warn you that you would end up looking stupid

I didn't know Manic had warned me of anything. Does Manic post on here or is Guido 2.0 his sock-puppet? If he isn't NuLab, then his philosophy of "no-one would do anything for free" is very close to their viewpoint.

My point was that I expect that Iain posts on his blog in snatched spare moments and that he doesn't need funding for it.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Guido 2.0,

Do you call yourself Manic in reference to a medical condition?

Do you understand how stupid you look referring to yourself in the third person?

I had some slight sympathy at first with you over Guido, since he is a bit of a prat, but then made the mistake of reading your blog. You are clearly deranged and now you are trolling away on Iain's?

Really, nobody cares about your opinion. Do stay on your own blog, try to get some scoops and it might turn readable.

Anonymous says Manic 2.0 is avoiding reality. Anonymous wants Manic-Guido-wrote my own wiki entry to push off.

  66. Iain, I am having to sift through a lot of troll/astroturf comments on your blog this week.
It seems to coincide with your articles on the Smith Institute, have you now like Guildo incurred the wrath of the Sith?
Chad, after your behaviour towards Iain over the last few months, I found it a bit rich that you are now trolling again on his blog when you do not allow the rest of us the privilege on yours for free.
I did see some of your recent comments about Iain, and they have to be about the nastiest I have seen!

  67. Iain. End these pathetic attempts to distract us. Everyone can see that you're really a Korean agent sent here to undermine the free world.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I am Peter Hitchens glove puppet or handsock or something - and whilst he is away in rehab, he wants me to let you all know that he think Mr Dale is jolly nice. Or something like that. Personally I think Mr Dale seems quite sane unlike some of the people who st here.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Manics question seems to be why doesn't Iain Dale write about Policy Exchange or 18 Doughty Street, the real question Mr Manic is "Why don't you?" if you know so much - rather than picking on poor Guido.

    ReplyDelete
  70. NuLabour has always been about control and crushing their enemies with spin.

You and Guido have short circuited their little game ( with a little help from your many blogging friends ).

No wonder the sparks are flying.

But lets not lose sight of the fact that NuLabour are destroying our country, hospitals, armed services, constitution and reputation around the world. They have to be stopped - and your helping to do it ! Well done.

    ReplyDelete
  71. It has become obvious that some of the posters on this blog are suffering from a case of arrested development - the kind of posting one would expect from a 16 year old.

    ReplyDelete
  72. we did notice that your a Conservative , but you still have a site with people from all sides are allowed to have a debate, even the swearing is self regulating , your bound to things thrown at you
because some people dont like success

    ReplyDelete
  73. Oh, this is fun!
For years NuLab (mostly in the person of A. Campbell) meticulously planned 'media presentation' - aka spin - backed by not very discreet bullying, to such an extent that their supporters/hangers-on/dupes/intellectually challenged Dave Sparts actually started to believe the the tripe that was being peddled.

All those rigged statistics, 'initiatives' that never seemed to happen, double and triple counting of 'investments' in health, police and so on, stage managed 'meet the people' events, all with rare exceptions bought into by those of the centre/left.

They're beginning to suspect that they made a pact with the devil - sold their principles for power and now the whole edifice is tumbling down around their ears. They're in the situation of trying to defend a regime built on sleight-of-hand. Worse, the putative saviour is a political coward who rather than act is quite happy to see their party slowly reduced to a rotting corpse in the hope that it will give him some slight political advantage when (if) he finally takes over.

Time for denial. Ignore the message, blame the messenger. This morning Michael White actually had the nerve to accuse Today, and Humphreys in particular, of always having hated Tony Blair and that's why they were leading on the Ermine for Vermin investigation. Laugh? Good job my prostate is in good nick otherwise there might have been a nasty accident.

    Enjoy the trolls. I do.
The warm glow they engender is cheaper than my central heating.

    ReplyDelete
  74. For those bleating about Policy Exchange, there is a difference between a party-affiliated think tank that deals with policy ideas and one that hires pollsteres to get the leader of another party. No-one is having a go at the IPPR, nor should they. The Smith Institute appears to have crossed the line and any centre-right think tank that did the same would also be investigated.

  76. Dear Mutleythedog

If you assume that the number of comments on posts relates to the traffic over the site (not ideal, but it's a reasonable starting point) then the reason that Tim Ireland doesn't wite about stuff might be that virtually no-one reads his blog compared to this one.

    ReplyDelete
  77. conservativehomo - 'for those bleating about Policy Exchange'. I am not one of those bleating about Policy Exchange. For the simple reason I have not a jot of an idea what it is. And nobody seems to be in a rush to pass on any information about it to me.

Manic has maintained all along that Iain Dale and Paul Staines are two parts of the same problem.

    The Empty Suit:

Normally, Manic would only respond by pointing out that quantity does not equal quality and that - unlike Iain's - Manic's main site requires readers to identify themselves before leaving a comment, but today you present me with a perfect opportunity to respond to your comment and many other comments in this thread with a single post.

But he thanks you for playing.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Tim - I genuinely can't be bothered to read all that. Looking at the number of comments, neither can anyone else. the contrasts between this blog/Guido's and yours are very marked; the former two talk about a variety of things of interest to the public, no matter your political viewpoint. Yours appears to have descended into a monotonous rant about no-one ever listening to you.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Hear hear empty suit, I clicked on the link and couldn't believe what I was reading - an endless screed of utter blah blah blah.

  86. The point about Stephan Shakespeare's association with 18 Doughty Street is that it is fairly transparent. The same goes for this blog or Guido's for that matter.

The same cannot be said of the BBC, which is controlled a quiet oligarchy, safely anonymised by self-imposed anthropomorphism ("The BBC thinks/it is the policy of the BBC/The BBC believes") who run the place by nods and winks and whose political outlook is occluded by faux neutrality, but which in reality enforces, with Stalinist zeal, a liberal humanist agenda.

  88. SCOOP! I've just uncovered this about Ian.

'right of centre political commentator, author, publisher, radio pundit, TV presenter, blogger, former Conservative candidate, '

    Such deception...

And as for 18DS, I've just seen that Tatchell fellow hosting a show. Now there's a right wing CIA / Christian Right agent if ever I saw one.

Its a conspiracy, I tells ye...

    Bye bye, lefty morons.

  89. It's all part of he "let's put the other man down" syndrome which pervades British society. The NuLabour fascists are on the run.

  90. Manic ? Who is this manic ?

Looks to me as if this about advertising a blog .Far worse things get said all over the place and that doesn`t bother whoever it is .

    I `m guessing a marketing background

    Boring anyway

  91. As far as I can gather from looking at
    http://www.ministryoftruth.org.uk/
    http://www.bloggerheads.com/guido_fawkes/index.html
http://www.bloggerheads.com (yes, last 2 are the same domain name but different Tim Ireland projects)
    it should be 'manically deranged'.

The situation would seem to be thus:
    1) We now have several libertarian/conservative websites/blogs that are leading the way in political web content where there are few, if not none, from the left of the spectrum.
    2) Couple this with the fact NuLab and OldLab are doing their merry best to self implode without much help from the outside.

The latter point may indeed make the rise of the former easier and more high profile but that should not be to take away from their obvious success and quality of what is presented - whether you subscribe to the political opinions or not - Tim/Manic/Guido 2.0 or what ever you're calling yourself and if that isn't trolling in itself I'm a ... well words fail me on that denial front.

Guido’s website is definitely more racy in content whereas Ian’s blog tends to be more of a civilised forum for discussion. By lumping them together and with the same (frankly slanderous) accusations, the suggestion is that every blog should be unbiased and neutral… spot the problem Tim!
Furthermore by failing to distinguish between the different types of blog out there with different readers and objectives you mark yourself out as a bit naïve. Would you really expect all papers’ to share the same editorial policy and comments from readers – why not write to the Sun to complain it is not of the same opinion or quality as the Guardian?

Most of us here do like to debate but as you’ve clearly demonstrated you have only one item on your agenda – you – achieved by trolling, screaming and shouting. What you think you’re going to achieve only you know, but you clearly don’t like this blog so why don’t you just push off to one of the many empty blogs you run?

Sorry to rant in a Tim Ireland style but frankly the gall of the man can even drive a normally comment shy person like myself to such measures.

  92. Manic is a sad and bitter person. Quite smart but devoid of humour and self awareness. Go to his Bloggerheads site and check his profile. In his own words he explains why he is bitter and alienated. He has a number of good qualities but needs professional help. He had a difficult childhood. He has few friends and most friendships fail because he goes funny.

  93. You don't have a wife? Of course you have a wife! Hmnn, who's wife was it then?

  94. JH: Ten years ago, we spoke after the first scandal - if that's what it was - of the formula one affair.

We did a television interview and you said to me - and the quote has been used many, many times since then; you'll know where I'm going - "people think I'm a pretty straight kind of guy".

They don't think that now, do they?

(After much waffle, we get the answer. The opposite to being straight is bent. For once Tony Blair is not lying through his teeth).

TB: Of course, but, you know, 10 years on, I answer that in a different way and I answer it in a different way because perhaps I am a different sort of person too.

  95. Now really Iain, thanks to the sale of politicos you should have trousered enough to buy a nice little house in Belgravia and maybe a historical country house (Sassoon's maybe?) It would seem that the Speccie's new digs would have been a great purchase for a history buff with your inclinations.

The NuLab troll has it all wrong! It wasn't that you have something of the night about you, but that you have something of the swish about you!

Say high to "the wife" for me.

  96. Will you be blogging from the Bilderberg conference Iain?

  97. Bilderberg.

If he does it will to hear what Nu-Lab supremo Mandleson has to say.

  98. EXCLUSIVE!

I've had my team of top researchers trawling the web for dirt on Iain Dale.

After weeks of painstaking work I can now reveal the shocking truth:

    Iain Dale is:

44, right of centre political commentator, author, publisher, radio pundit, TV presenter, blogger, former Conservative candidate, Essex boy, Tunbridge Wells resident, Jack Russell owner, German speaker, West Ham season ticket holder, Audi lover, golfer, iPod addict.

    Let's see him deny that!

Anonymous @ 1.34pm has already scooped my exclusive. I knew I should not have used those NuLab researchers.

I thought you called yourself centre-left?

  101. Iain, a photo has just come into my possession which I have now duly posted - I think it's your Nu-Labour trolls.

  102. Hoo hum, yes, I was one of those people asking questions. Not any of the above questions admittedly but I was asking questions. Strangely, Iain has managed to avoid any mention of that issue in this post. Perhaps that was just an oversight.

Ps, any suggestion that I'm a New Labour Troll will be laughed at vigorously.
