Good afternoon. We are investigating the misuse of charitable status in a group called 'Policy Exchange' and believe you could help us with our inquiries. If you wouldn't mind accompanying us to the cells, oops I mean station.
So he gets a Statutory Notice to divulge - at least he is now indemnified against any heavy tactics from Brown-Balls legal.
It sounds like he has been granted protection from the Brown-Balls Mobsters which in view of what happened to 'Bugs' Moran 77 years ago yesterday must be a relief to Mrs Fawkes
Hmmm sounds like a hollow threat we are used to seeing these days from NuLabs bureaucrats. Has Guido been directed to deliver relevant documents to the charities commission by a court order? I don't think so - so how can he be held in contempt of court? In any case he can claim public interest in the protection of his sources..... I notice no criminal penalties in section 8 of the charities act!
I guess Guido will be happy to hand his paperwork over if he can do so without revealing his sources. Otherwise it looks like Pentonville. Better than the rack, which is what Guido No. 1 got but still a pretty raw deal for a public spirited whistleblower.
Stand by for soundbite from Alastair Campbell suggesting that this is "just a political hoo-ha."
Guido's blog has over months claimed to have evidence that the Smith institute was violating the rules of the Charity Commission. He has also taken the credit for instituting the investigation. It seems reasonable therefore that he produces the evidence to enable the Commission to undertake its' task.
Methinks I will have to be careful on the comment I leave on blogs. I was unaware the Charity Commission had such draconian powers!
Iain do they still use the Tower, will they give him an ASBO ,how about a £60 fine ,didn't Reid send somthing out the other day about jail's ,trying to rein our Guido in, do you think he said something naughty to mr mcbroon ,like GOTCHA.
Good luck Guido ,we peasant's will will be watching ,with our voting paper's in our hand.
"An online blogger", eh? Good to see the Telegraph's sub-editing operation still has the mindset of a retired colonel, albeit one who hasn't been that long retired....
"I want you to lay down your life, Fawkes. We need a futile gesture at this stage. It will raise the whole tone of the war. Get up in a crate, Perkins, pop over to SW1, take a shufti, don't come back. Goodbye, Fawkes. God, I wish I was going too."
The fragrant Mrs Fawkes has all the assets anyway, we hope.
He is not the only one. The Chosen Man http://www.the-chosen-man.blogspot.com/ has had his You Tube account nobbled for hosting videos from Iraq and Afghanistan. He has also be red flagged by the MOD. Methinks Number 10 is taking tactics from the Putin playbook
Andrew Hind, Chief executive of the Charity Commission, on taking up the job after working for the BBC World Service:
"... I would like people to say ..[of] the Charity Commission... they are rigorous in their role as a regulator of the sector where there is evidence that, in individual cases, things have gone wrong."
Dame Suzi Leather (for it is she, the multi purpose, Labour Party supporter, appointee to so many quangos) said : 'I am delighted to have been appointed to chair the Charity Commission ... the Commission has a vital role to play... . Ensuring that charities deliver public benefit in exchange for the advantages which comes with charitable status is set to become an increasingly key responsibility of the Commission .."
You're on, too, Suzi.
It's so encouraging that both the chief executive and the chairperson of the CC are fully aware of their reponsibilities and the centrality of those responsibilities.
Sir I write to advise you that the image attached to this post, which quite clearly pictures Mr G Fawkes behind prison bars, when taken with with the title "Free the Guido One!", is highly defamatory of Mr Fawkes. Unless you make it clear that Mr Fawkes is not now and has never been imprisoned and/or held on remand I would suggest he will have no choice but to issue proceedings against you for defamation.
As Guido is part of the Establishment, of course he will blow the whistle on his co-conspirators even though it is unlikely that he would be subjected to torture.
I would prefer to see him go down for a stretch. It is ironic that he has a tendency to put other bloggers on notice, and now the law has finally caught up with him.
Im confused, I thought it was the guido 3 ? He threatend 3 different bloggers with law suits didnt he ? And now Someones taken a hat tip from Guido and registered a site in another country so they can publish the article he was using legal threats to supress.
Here's hoping that he goes down for say 27 or so years. I'm looking forward to hanging out with my Operation Babushka mates with their "Hang Staines" badges.
I don't quite understand what point the Charity Commission are trying to make here ? Surely Guido has not got an interest in 'protecting' Smith Institute people by hiding what he has found out ? And he if has got some facts which aren't known to the Commissioners, then they could ask the Smith Institute for them ? If they withhold information, surely it is the trustees of the charity which would be under threat of doing the time in 'porridge' ? Mind you, this is the first I've heard of it, so am going to pop over to Guido to hear it 'from the horse's mouth,' that is, unless he's been taken to the 'glue factory'..
Oh for heavens sake, Jailhouselawyer. I am sick and tired of your advertisements for your sad little blog. You really think Guido would bother to sue you? Sad little man.
Well they don't come any leftier than me (left of Marx) and I've read the whole tempest in a teapot that has Guido calling in the lawyers. To the allegations I say: I'd have done the same myself, duh! The enemy of my enemy is my friend, duh. Who doesn't know this? Instead of suing people, he should be saying, "Yeah, and if they'd only done what I told them it would have been a brilliant victory!" which, being fair, it probably would have been, albeit for the godforsaken Tories.
Now, as for the point of Iain's post here, one notes with interest, one does, that Iain asks for his dear friend's release from prison. This, of course, requires that his friend be remanded to custody, which he has not yet been and may never be. Is this a cunningly passive-aggressive way of getting the blogging competition out of the way? Can't free him until you jail him, so take Step One (incarceration) and just go for tea and maybe a nice month's holiday before implementing Step Two (free Guido).
Come on Iain- all this in the week that Guido threatened to sue other bloggers for reprinting a Guardian article that the Guardian have never retracted- he's hardly standing up for the freedom of the blogosphere at the moment is he. And being threatened by the courts because he won't reveal his sources for his claims about the Smith Institute- well what can you say- isn't it time for Guido to put up or shut up.
A masterful stroke from Mr Staines at the end of a week where he has been outed as a hyporitical bully. What better way to redirect attention that by portraying himself as the victim and gain an appearance in the MSM at the same time. I wouldn't place too much credence in the story without supporting evidence.
Free him from where?
ReplyDeleteDon't tell me he's going down on the loans for peerages rap.

Will Brown be jailed if he does not comply, seems like not giving them docs is a crime worse than what he has suggested they are breaking.............
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the excellent Master Fawkes will emerge from this with no staines on his character.
ReplyDeleteHands off our Guido, he belongs to the people!

can't see why Guido would hold back, although it would be ironic if he was the only jailed for the NL/BL sleaze!
ReplyDeleteSounds like he will have to surrender his left frontal lobe to avoid gaol.
ReplyDeleteIs he going down with the Hammers, Iain?

I doubt that this is the way Guido would prefer things to unfold, but surely he won't mind handing over the documents?!?!?!
ReplyDeletePresumably people at No. 11 got a similar letter. Sounds like a pretty standard warning!
ReplyDeleteNot being "Theatrical" about this are they?

ReplyDeleteDon't worry, Guido has very good lawyers.

Can we hang, draw and quarter him instead?
ReplyDeleteThey're after his sources.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile somewhere in Downing Street:
It was a peculiar, cracked, braying, jeering note: in his mind Gordon/Tone* called it a yellow note. And then a voice from the telescreen was singing:
Under the spreading chestnut tree
I sold you and you sold me:
There lie they, and here lie we
Under the spreading chestnut tree.

I think we're more likely to put the hammer down.

ReplyDeleteanonymous 9.04: I found the site and republished the article on my blog. I look forward to Mr BNP's response.

ReplyDeleteSo they are admitting tha what they say about Guido is untrue? If it was true then of course they wouldn't worry about legal action.
