Dizzy Uncovers Proof of Home Office Break-Up

Dizzy Thinks has uncovered evidence that a new Ministry of Justice is about to be formed HERE. Apparently Tony's bezzie mate Lord Falconer's Department of Constitutional Affairs registered www.justice.gov.uk last week. Obviously Falconer will want to progress this pretty quickly, because he's unlikely to be in the Cabinet once regime change has happened. I wonder what the good Doctor Reid will make of it... I think I can guess.

  1. Yet another thing that really doesn't need doing, and I'm sure it'll lead to more politicians in the Justice system.

And wasn't the 'Ministry of Justice' the thing in 'Judge Dredd'?

  2. Should anyone simply click the "www" above and not read my post, the reason the above goes to a 404 page is because the web server it has been pointed at is yet to be formally configured for the domain. However, I have published the domain record for justice.gov.uk on my site now.

  3. As David said, this will just lead to more parasites in the system. How about outsourcing the justice element to Bangalore or, even better, to Bahgdad. What inpact would a few botched executions have on the gun-crime figures?

  4. Well done dizzy

Well done new Labour , all we need is a new name some plush new offices, some grand a time office chairs and everything will be tickety boo.
As much as i hate to admit It I am going to have to vote conservative and pray that our Dave has been bluffing or at the very least will be reined in from any silly socialist cobblers when he becomes prime minister.

  5. Sorry if I'm being really dense here, but I thought John Reid has already suggested this a few weeks ago ?

I would have thought John Reid was one of the last people Blair would want to piss off in any case, as he has been sticking up for Blair when Gordon Brown was conspicuous only by his absence ?

Seems a slightly fanciful idea to me, but I have been wrong before..

  6. If you look at the cabinet office website, you can get to a link that says 'better regulation' which is part of the Better Regulation Executives website. The BRE is still in the cabinet office, yet has it's own site. www.justice.gov.uk could just be a sub site/ new agency and not another department. Let's not jump to conclusions Iain.

  7. No, best not. What on earth was I thinking of.

  8. Iain, so let me get this right, are you saying that this 'justice' area will be different to the 'rump' that will be left when/if the Home Office splits off a 'Department of Homeland Security' to look after terrorism and borders/migration ??

  10. To be honest Iain, I find the phrase 'adopting an equality and diversity approach..' far more offensive.

Whatever happened to those lovely adjectives 'equal' and 'diverse' ?

They are killing the English language.

The trouble is, saying 'adopting an equal and diverse approach..' says that one should have some autonomy over the approach, so long as one uses common-sense, and the outcome is an equal and diverse organisation - but somehow that isn't good enough, and they need to be totally prescriptive about the 'means' as well as the 'ends'.

    A bloody nightmare..

  11. anon that thinks they are being dense. It was merely a floated idea by Reid that since has been poo-pooed across Whitehall including by Brown. According to the last reports it was merely a "debate" that was being had after a proposal paper was submitted. This domain registration appears to indicate action not just words.

  12. So will Superman, Batman, the Incredible Hulk and Wonder Woman be Permanent Secretaries?

    The mind boggles.

  13. thanks dizzy - where is dr doom when you need him, eh ??

I am absolutely stunned at the figures in the Observer today about the number of times 'armed response' units are deployed in London.

    [Mark Townsend, their crime journo]
"The operational head of Scotland Yard's specialist firearms unit, Superintendent Bert Moore, told The Observer that in December firearms officers were deployed on 2,232 occasions. 'The figures on average are between 2,200 and 2,500 a month. These are the number of occasions we use our feet, where we actually leave our vehicles,' said Moore."

What worries me is that we must surely reach a point where the only people the cops will worry about are those with guns..and drivers..

  14. Good old-fashioned institutional revolution to distract from the fact that the system is failing.

What's the point in having a Justice Dept/Home Office if the legislation can't be enforced because the police are too scared of being politicall incorrect?

I pray that DC will put some backbone back into our institutions once elected.

  15. Slow to react, but what is this from The Hitch about having to vote Tory? Has UKIP's missing thousands lead to a conversion on the road to Damascus? If so then may I offer a hearty welcome, although I wont be inviting him to address the genteel ladies on my local committee, as "c****s and b******s" dont go down to well with them.

  16. Yet another coup d'etat. A Minister of Justice not accountable to the voters or the House of Commons......what next...an hereditary office ?

  17. I should think Reid would approve, since he proposed it and is thought (if we're wrong about it being a ploy to distract from the Lords/Loans scandal) to favour heading up the other half of the HO...

  18. Orwellian in the extreme IMO.The next thing will be be a 'Ministry Of Truth'- It's spelt BBC and suffered from an influx of leftward leaning journalists in the run up to the 1997 election according to the Wilson report.During which period the Conservatives allowed themselves to be de-branded via the Conservative/Tory brand muddying exercise concurrent with the Labour/New 'Improved' Labour brand reinforcement ploy perpetrated by those same lefty journalists in 'Ministry Of Truth' -sorry- BBC editing suites.Right thinking people stand up!

Iain, about gun crime and lack of respect in general:How often do senior Labour politicians sneer at 'Tories' and equate the name with the rich and dissolute? They appeal to their supporters via envy. How does this fit in with a 'respect' agenda?Someone should point out the hypocrisy of their stance - every time a Labour politician uses the ploy - and everytime someone is mugged,stabbed,shot...

  19. It now goes to the directgov website.

However, they have disabled the 'back' button on browsers. So now there is no escape from Labours justice!

  20. It just goes to show that I was right all along. Hilary Benn will make a very good Minister of Justice. In the meantime, I have decided to re-open the Tower of London as a prison to ease the overcrowding crisis created by Michael Howard.

  21. I have just been on the phone to the Director General of the Prison Service, Phil Wheatley, who said it was not official, but that they might be moving to the Ministry of Justice soon. There are still talks going on between departments. Unofficially, it would appear to be on the cards.
