There's a new site putting UKIP under scrutiny called UKIPatHOME. It has a very interesting story about Ashley Mote, the MEP who was elected under the UKIP banner. Apparently he is signing up to the new extremist grouping which includes Alessandra Mussolini and various other racist toerags.
Mote was withdrawn from the UKIP list after financial irregularity allegations were made against him, but he was still elected under UKIP banner. UKIP has been making great play of two 'Conservative' Peers defecting to them this week, despite the fact that both had the whip withdrawn from them in 2004 for urging people to vote UKIP in the European elections. UKIP also withdrew the whip from Mote in 2004. So if they UKIP describes the two Peers as Conservatives, it presumably means they are happy to consider Mote as being UKIP. QED.
UPDATE: UKIP is "appalled and horrified" by Mote's decision and has called on him to resign his seat.
At the risk of being picky, I always thought it was "tow-rags"?
ReplyDeleteOne wonders if he will stand as BNP at the next Euro Election.
ReplyDeleteI spy stangers is wrong and Ian's correct. Toerag is derived from cloth bindings worn by tramps in place of shoes and so literally refers to an individual only good enough to be used for this purpose. Compare: snotrag.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to sign up to Alessandra Mussolini.
ReplyDeleteI am afraid I find your objection to any particular grouping within EuroParl to be specious in that there is little to choose between them.
ReplyDeleteThe institution as such should be abolished. We don't need an alibi parliament in Strasbourg and Brusssels - the GDR had one Palace of the Republic which was about as relevant.
I should much rather elect the Politburo than bother aboit the Organgrinder's Monkeys
no I think Iain's right, they are the rags you use to clean your toes...
ReplyDeleteI wonder how all those people who voted UKIP and ended up with this fascist representing them feel about it?
ReplyDeleteAnd that Congdon chap says he is voting UKIP next time!
But who does Ashley also associate with? His site say about DVD/videos that "Since then he has written and directed two others - Better Off Out " So its the BOO mob.
and he is a Member of The Freedom Association as it says so on their front page.

I knew Ashley Mote was to the Right of most but I didn't think he'd sign up with that lot.
ReplyDeleteI have never understood how someone voted in on a party list system can cross the floor. In Westminster you vote for the person not the party, if they change party then tough.
ReplyDeleteBut if you vote "Conservative" or "UKIP" at a list based election and one of them leaves their original party I would have thought that they would forfit their seat and be replaced with the next person on that party's list.
The Conservative Party should abandon political correctness, "diversity" and all the other nonsense and start representing the hard-working, law-abiding majority of British people again then UKIP would shrivel and die.
ReplyDeleteYou would think so, James but these two have been at it for a long time, as Iain mentioned. And do you actually want a defector in your party? By definition, there's something a little not-so about such people.
ReplyDeleteJames Cleverly - what you say sounds sensible, but of course isn't the case - vide Kilroy-Silk and his 57 varieties of party since getting elected.
ReplyDeleteWhy the concern over UKIP?, or for that matter any political group. If the major political parties listened to the electorate and put forward policies that the majority of the population would vote for, there would be no need to worry about UKIP or anyone else.
ReplyDeleteToe rags. The foot cloths of tramps is one meme.
ReplyDeleteBut I think that may be a cover story. A distortion of "Tuareg" is often advanced:
Nomadic herders. North and west Africa. Cause of numerous rebellions in different countries as they commonly feel persecuted or ignored by more static goverments. The name is one that is given to them based from Arabic similar to the name Gypsy. It means "cast out by god" altough in their own language Tamashek they prefer to be called Imasharen or free people.
Cf. Sandboy, Give it some Gip/Gyp etc for other words and expressions with nice old cockerney derivations from e.g. regency or early victorian times - and also more sinister ones possibly from crusading days or the main colonial push.
Either way "toe rag" is obviously disparaging. But if the second meme were true it would be a paradox to be calling a consortium of racists this!
And to widen things a bit more weren't there tales of both UKIP and Tories communing with Senorina Mussolini and her lovely friends??
Have also found this definition/explanation:
ReplyDeleteToe rag = slag (originally meaning a girl of easy virtue, but now evolved to mean an unpleasant person) here.
Yeah this Mote character does sound like a rather loathsome character that is for sure. After the good of Tim Congdon signing up with them they must be livid with this whole thing.

James, if only you lived in Lewisham, where Tories and Labour frequently co-habit. Oh, sorry, you do, don't you? Barrie Anderson, anyone? Oh, no, anything for any influence.
Iain you know exactly what buttons to press to make Chad Noble fly into a child like rage and suffer yet another depressing bout of verbal effluent. This just make him look like some silly spoilt child.
ReplyDeleteKeep up your good work. Its always nice to see Chadster in a rage. Well done!
