The Perils of a Live Two-Way

Jeremy Vine, on Radio 2, just asked Reeta Chakrabarti: "Could the Prime Minister end up in jail?" You could have heard a pin drop. It's the sort of nightmare question a political correspondent dreads because you have to give a "well on the one hand this and on the other hand that" answer. She got out of it well, but imagine if she had just said "yes". Well done Reeta for avoiding an 'Andrew Gilligan' moment!

The BBC can go swing in my opinion, as they have blocked me from even submitting comments on Nick Robinson's blog!

""Could the Prime Minister end up in jail?"

The smart answer was "Well no war crimes prosecution has yet been initiated." !

We are being prepared for the unprecedented event of a serving British Prime Minister being arrested and charged (and possibly even imprisoned, though that, while warranted, will probably be seen as a step too far)

Never mind an "Andrew Gilligan moment" - most of us are waiting to see who first experiences a "Dr David Kelly moment"...

Ruth Kelly? John McTernan? Jonathan Powell?

Never fear, the Number 10 staff are about to discover the meaning of "greater love hath no man to lay down his friends for his life"...

What fun!

Jeremy Vine?
You actually listen to Jeremy Vine, radio presenter and purveyor of whatever happens to be the latest fashionable sob-story, inviting all and sundry to contribute with their own "I'm a victim too!" anecdotes and the interviewer with the incisiveness of an over-boiled noodle?
Gawdelpus.

Force of circumstance meant that I was trapped into listening to his rubbish for an entire week and no other prog has ever induced such tooth-grinding rage, not even when that Redhead creep presented the 'Today' propaganda fest.

He makes the late Jess Yates seem like Paxman.

Jeremy Vine is a pathetic lightweight, it's typical that a careerist, establishment drip like him should be given Panorama.

Don't expect any exposes, or even criticism, of the Government.

Vine is an utter arse. Take this morning - a serious discussion going on about raising the age of leaving education. And what does Vine have to contribute? He can't wait to talk about Vicky Pollard. No matter what any caller said - his pea-brained "auto-populist" button must be pressed. "But what about Vicky Pollard" he kept repeating mindlessly. The poor guest was unable to think of anything intelligent to say in response to this nauseating trivia onslaught.

Jimmy Young must have removed Radio 2 from the dial of his radio, but alas - to no avail! For Vine and Vineism are spreading relentlessly into every corner of broadcasting. Next year, PM at 5pm will feature "touch and sniff" stipper shows. Today will only contain unintelligable growling and crowing noises. Panorama will merge with Celebrity Big Brother and feature Vine trying to interview Davina, result: severe mental illness nationwide.

You lucky people! The dentist I used to have , and used to have to visit at the same time of day, always had Radio 1 on. Result -- dental procedures accompanied by Simon Bates & "Our Tune". No more excruciating listening experience is possible.

I heard that. I wondered why she didn't say "yes, theoretically. Anyone can be sent to prison if they have been found guilty of an imprisonable crime" After all, even Mad Tony wouldnt want people to actually SAY he is above the law, would he?

Wouldn't he?

Vine is a **** (insert appropriate noun). But it is still astounding how easy the media are going on Blair's situation.

If you ever watch Yes Minister, you became clever on your feet, saying something while saying nothing, always the best policy with the BBC!!
