On Blogger TV Tonight...
Joining me at 9pm on Blogger TV on 18 Doughty Street tonight for a discussion on why so few women blog are Rachel North, Ellee Seymour, Caroline Hunt, Andy Mayer and Kerron Cross. We'll also me discussing the trustworthiness of blogs and my guests will give their best blogs of the week.
The new 18 Doughty Street website should have been launchedlast Monday today. The website company guaranteed it for 7am this morning. They're now guaranteeing it for tomorrow morning. Sigh.

ReplyDeleteWomen do blog though (and I am living proof) but they may not host the kind of blogs you are interested in. However, have a look at raincoasters blog, it's cool.

ReplyDeleteIt would be nice if the low-bandwidth audio-only stream could be reinstated at some point, Iain. I found it useful to start by watching several minutes of the full audio-visuals, to see who was on, and then to switch to just having the audio on in the background, not using up all my bandwidth, while I got on with work or whatever. Not that I couldn't stand the look of anyone of course, but the information on 18DS is primarily communicated verbally rather than visually.
ReplyDeleteI think there are many reasons why in modern liberated feminist liberal progresive Britain. The main ones being these.
ReplyDeleteWomen are looking after the kidds looking after a man ( if they have one ) looking after the home cooking all the meals doing all the housework as they have always done and DOING A FULL TIME payed job as well.
They dont have time for blogging or indead having any type of free life at all.
These are the real consequences of femail liberation. The freedom to work yourself to death for some other womans political obsessions.
Also lets face it even in the year 2007 boys/men still like playing with toys/techno shit and girls/women still deal with all the things that really matter in life. Long may it still be so.

ReplyDeleteToo many women blog as it is. They have far too much to say in our every day lives for them to be also filling up blogs with their nonsense and trivia. Blogs should be productive and informative, not littered with gossip and idle chit chat.

ReplyDeleteSeriously, as I'm sure I've mentioned the Pew Foundation has found that the majority of bloggers are female. There are fewer women bloggers in politics because there are fewer women than men in politics. There are fewer male baking bloggers, fewer horse bloggers, etc, etc. It's just the relative proportions; if anything, women in a given field tend to be overrepresented by blogs because women are more likely than men to start blogs.

ReplyDeleteCity Slicker-I see with typical female fluffiness you aren`t concerntrating . They are asking exactly that. In fact you are vastly more likely to be encourage via the platform of Doughty street as a poltical female blogger than a male one .
Isn`t why that might be,a rather more ineresting question. Why are notably feeble women prefferred . Of course 18 Doughty Street is not a public service but Iains Blog , is , quite rightly , the "blog of record" and has a central role.
None of this matters but in the cotext of A lists , quotas and other positive discrimination it is ...suggestive .
Another interesting question is this . Why is it that more barriers to class mobility go up the more balls we hear about fenale , racial , gay and everyone else "inclusion"
This country is the most unfair in terms of class in the Western world and it is getting worse. To me( and I have moved in from blogging here ). The replacment of policy with gesture is a general drift I abhor and is the root of the revulsion many feel against PC choices. 50% of senior journalists went to private school and poltical exclusion is glacially immoveable.Opposition to the A list was miisunderstood . It was the fact that it was used to make existing discrimination even worse along class lines that was infuriating

The majority of bloggers are women.
There aren't more women bloggers in politics because there aren't that many women in the front ranks of politics. The same can be said for technology. But the studies are in, the numbers have been crunched, and the flat-out majority of bloggers, in fact, the majority of internet users, are female.
Iain, you should talk to Melissa Crawshay-Williams, who very capably administers www.boris-johnson.com plus the new forum. She could give you some perspective. After all, for all we know she has her own blog, but we don't read that, do we? We read Boris'. Which she runs.
They keep inviting me on as a means to redress the London-centric bias - one day I shall agre...
