I Spy With My Little Eye...

... A Home Office Minister, thirty feet above me in the Directors Box at West Ham. Wouldn't you have thought Tony McNulty would be following John Reid's example and working '18 hours a day to sort out the Home Office? No, me neither.

  1. Following that Mcnamee goal who needs the support more - The Home Office or The Hammers?

  2. Photograph him Iain, you'll make a fortune.

  3. He will do less harm at the match.

  4. Think of the harm a picture would do to the Hammers image!

  5. or-perhaps he has some pulling power where a certain new venue is concerned.

  6. McNulty doesn't need to worry now his wife has the OFSTED sinecure....she can screw up the poor kids before the Home Office finds it has no space for them

  7. Iain, I was getting slightly confused there with the 'McTernan' bloke, who I would have thought would be worrying about not ending up in the slammer, rather than going to a football game.

However, as he is a 'Home Office' bod, perhaps he is sizing up the West Ham ground to locate one of the prisons they are going to have to build pronto to dig them out of the hole they're in..

  8. I hear the Hammers lost because Roy Carroll was momentarily distracted

"Isn't that the legendary blogger Iain Dale I've just spotted in the...oh, shit...!!!"

I think you need to take full responsibility for your teams exit from the Cup.

  9. Are your football scarves anything like your ties? That would explain a lot...

  10. WEll, he'll have all day to work when the next round comes along.

  11. He was on a survey, you can get an awful lot of prisoners into a football ground. Lets be honest better use for Upton Park!

  12. Maybe he could honour the Prime Ministers commitment (which he echoed when on a visit to Suffolk) to pay the full cost of the Suffolk Murders, instead of dumping the cost on the Council Tax!

  13. I am surprised that you were sat among the commoners and not in the directors box yourself. West Ham showed the Home Office minister that they can do as well getting it all wrong. As for John Reid working 18 hours a day, I suspect that is how long he sleeps on the job a day.

BTW, how did Watford get on?

  14. On Radio Five Live "Hard Talk" (is it? the sports based panel show) this morning, asked for their "Any Other Business":

Pundit One: John Reid letting all the criminals off

Pundit Two: I'd put him in jail if there was any space

Presenter: He'd probably let himself off

Having said that I look forward to properly costed Tory proposals to double the jails, treble the police, stiffen the mettle of judges, and finally make crime illegal ... if that's your draconian plan?

PS How does this fit with 'hug a hoodie' (which, OK, he never quite said) etc

  18. Ah yes - the fine record of Tory home secretaries... Don't think we've had good Tory Home Sec since Douglas Hurd and John Waddington. Not that there is anyone of the calibre of either of those in today's Tory Party.

  19. Hope you shuffled on over and sorted him out.

  22. McNulty obviously realises the truth - the longer Labour ministers stay out of the Home office the more likely there's a chance that officials will be able to come up with some solutions to the problems.

I'm 56 and there has only been one good Home Secretary in my lifetime. Michael Howard. Top man.
