Curbishley Out!

West Ham are 4-0 down to Reading after 36 minutes. Does it get any worse than that? I may have to revise me prediction HERE that relegation will be avoided. Alan Pardew, please come back... Of course the players are to blame, but Curbishley has to answer the question on every West Ham fan's lips: Why on earth won't you start with Carlos Tevez? In each game I've seen him play he has looked the most likely to score. Mascherano hasn't been given a look in and yet he's supposed to be the best player in South America. And he dropped the fantastic Mark Noble (our next big home grown player) and brought in Shaun Newton, a journeyman player well past his best who has just finished a ban for cocaine use. In addition Jonathan Spector, our best defendere this season, has been dropped in favour of the ageing Christian Dailly. Admittedly Dailly played well against Man City, but it's a strange thing to do to drop your best player. I know you shouldn't judge a manager on just a few games, but I am pretty sure this would not have happened under Pardew. Happy New Year!

UPDATE: I am embarrased to report that the final score was 6-0.

  2. Iain, your reputation as a West Ham fan is spreading. Just heard one of my fitba daft kids comment "Iain Dale will be sick as a parrot at that result!

  3. With football it is always unwise to question if things can get any worse. As any Man City fan will know.

  4. Only hit for six? A dramatic improvement on the first half then!

    Time to send for Sven?

  5. The trouble is that the Hammers thought that they were still playing Watford in the rain, while Reading were still geared up to fight ManU!

  6. I believe that there is one Cheeky Girl going spare. Do you need a work permit to be a football manager?

  7. west Ham did well to get nil.

  8. 'I am pretty sure this would not have happened under Pardew.' Possibly not, but then it seems to be fairly well known that Pardew was sacked because of events off the pitch.

  9. "Our next big home grown player"?

So when will the 'Appy 'Ammers be selling him, then?

  10. Iain, Given someone else has filled the gap of books about Cameron, could you not lend a hand to West Ham in their hour of need ?

  12. We will have to wait for Pardew to come back with Charlton - then we shall get a true idea what the fans think of their former manager 'playin away'.

  13. I have never rated Curb's as a manager. People say he did a great job without much money but he actually spent about £30 million for little result. Iain Dowie got the same results that Curbishly did in the same period at Charlton. I must agree with your comments Iain. Mascerano must start and West Ham should build the team around him. His ability to cross the ball is simply sensational.

They used to say that about David Beckham pre-nanny.

  15. Excellent points, and especially so for a West Ham fan.

Curbs likes hard working journeymen players, thus the two Argentinians wont get played.

  16. The result is a one-off. I'm sure Curbs will turn things round for the Hammers.

  17. The Hammers are too big to go down - oh wait.

  18. Ouch!! Sorry to hear about the Hammers' drubbing today! I've got Mascherano in my fantasy football team - what a waste that was!

  19. Just watching it on Match of the Day- Bowyer has forgotten how to shoot and Gabbidon thinks he is playing rugby and defending from a free kick is appalling. Good luck for the rest of the season- as a Leeds fan I know depression- think you can't get as bad as us.

  20. Oh and didn't Newton play for Charlton at one point- that's probably at a guess why Curbs likes him

  21. Isn't a Mascherano one of those cherry things girlies put in their drinks?

  22. Take heart Iain
I can remember Fulham beating Ipswich 10-1 on a bank holiday weekend at home 35 or so yrs ago , and three days later going back down to Ipswich and losing 4-2.
It's never over till its over.

  23. Yes, I remember Ipswich losing 10-1 to Fulham over Christmas in 1963, then winning the return game 4-2.

    They still went down though.

  24. Never mind, in for or five years West Ham will be meeting Dagenham & Redbridge in the Conference.

    Hey, ho, silver lining.....

  25. Do you really like Footbal, then Iain , it seems to be de rigeur for everyone to "like football" nowadays ? Its a good game but rugby is better.

I don`t know that I can readily imagine you scampering around with the old jumpers for goalposts . Am I wrong ...ususally

  26. I just went on the West Ham 'fan' site which is full of all kinds of back-biting stuff and suggestions that 'going down' is something that Mr Pardew might have more experience of than is widely known.

Might explain why a quite expensive and reasonably-rated team has suddenly (over a few months) become demoralised and dispirited?

  27. newmania, oh come along now, surely you've worked out by now that Iain isn't really a rugby boy...

  28. Hmmm...but I bet you would rather they lost one game 6-0 than 6 games 1-0.

It ain't over till the fat lady sings.

  29. At least one can gain comfort from Raymond 'Barney' Van Barneveld's victory over Phil 'The Molester' Taylor in last night's darts final.

  30. Odessa, just got back from work, your comment was a bit harsh, but since we got a point against Chelski(and we should have won) ans Spurs lost at home I'll let it pass.,,,all in the spirit of Goodwill to all men/women
I'm not sure you are correct about relegation either, I will have to check back.....

    ReplyDelete
  31. Odessa You are correct, I thought you meant Fulham got relegated The match was on 27/12/63 and Ipswich did indeed get relegated! History does not have to repeat itself!

  32. My notes said "34 minutes" for the 4th goal. I will not be changing my own prediction that West Ham are for the drop. Also thing more than one Lib Dem MP will cross to the Cons. I say "at least three".
