Blogger, Are You Listening? I Say, Are You Listening??

[tears what's remaining of his hair out in frustration] Those nice people at Blogger have suddenly removed the facility on my blog to add pictures or links. Anyone else having the same problem? Naturally people will say I should have moved to Beta, but again, those nice people at Blogger won't let me as my blog is too big and I am at the end of the queue. Aaaaaaaagh [/tears what etc etc]

UPDATE: Fantastic! It's snowing in Tunbridge Wells. Loving it.

  1. Never mind!
What about that Churchill quote from the American ambassador on TODAY about the -dangers of leading with your ear to the ground.
    Ring any bells?

  2. Ever considered hosting your own blog?

  3. As just an - to quote Labour Ministers - "ordinary person" I have noticed that lately your blog has been a bit reluctant to load on my PC. It loads fine with the graphics, your smiling face etc. but the most important part, the text, has been rather shy, and on occasions, refused to appear at all.

Is this conspiracy or cock-up I wonder............

  4. Jafo its cockup- Blogger has been difficult recently I've foudn looking at other blogs hard. James Higham has had some difficulties commenting on his old blogger blog as well.

  5. off thread
The Conservative Party seems to have gone mute, over this adoption row with the Catholic Church. It does seem to have bought out the, 'Kill a queer for Jesus' brigade at Conhome: any comment Iain

  8. Mine seems to be behaving nicely today, although it has been temperamental the last 48 hours, felt at times like kicking everyone out so I could ruminate on my own, rather like John Reid.

  9. ED...yes you can.I personally do not consider South London to be London so much as a housing estate built next to London but others ( Like Croydonian) take a strongly contrary view.

Already the mighty ( GHOST organisation) is facing split and schism on compass lines. Our common Foe the EAST ANGLIAN MAFIA will provide the glue

ED- email Croydonian ( Or THE GODFATHER as we do not call him in the open OMERTA ....you know)

  14. using Snap.com for the link pop-ups is mildy irritating, too.

we used it for a while and it drove users nuts.

  15. Newmania - so did I as I am a born and bred West Londoner but alas economic expediency takes me South these days...

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ah, but if you had moved to Beta - as I foolishly did - you'd then find you couldn't import it when you decide to move to WordPress.

  17. Blogger has been total bollocks recently. It's just put the whole of my links list in bold for no reason known to man.

  18. @ Paul, yep the number of times I've been unable to get to your, Iain's or Dizzy's sites over the last couple of weeks has been a joke.

I strongly suggest Blogger loving bloggers consider changing platform to the very stable (it's very rare it has any downtime) Wordpress...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ever considered WordPress? It's far more reliable and a very flexible friend.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I've not noticed any problems with Blogger.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Am in same boat as Iain - Blogger keeps inviting me to transfer to beta but then not letting me do so - and frequently doesn't then let me go back to old version to create posts.

    ReplyDelete
  22. In the name of all that is holy, people, do NOT switch to Blogger beta. Go LiveJournal if you must, but stay away from Blogger Beta no matter what the cost in human lives or souls.

A very good reason not to use Beta is that it doesn't work, but a far better one is that if you ever DO decide to move your blog to a stable platform like Wordpress.org, you be fuckt, yo. No doubt someone somewhere is beavering away at an importer that will be ready at some point, but right now it doesn't make much sense for Wordpress to develop an importer for an ever-changing and unstable platform.

Seriously, Iain, just get some webspace, borrow a nerd for an afternoon, and install Wordpress. The only problem I have had recently is that the audio player they introduced 2 days ago plays All This Useless Beauty, but it refuses to play the theme from the Facts of Life, although this may be because of its internal taste settings.

  23. simply to add to the chorus of woe; site refusing to load at all, loading the header and a bit of the left side but nowt else, "blogger regrets this server is knackered" messages, some silly "snap" thing popping up and then refusing to show comments (or be turned off, despite professing to have the option). Crap, really.

  24. C'mon Iain, even Harriet Harman uses Wordpress: http://blog.harrietharman.org/

    ReplyDelete
  25. I don't know Iain, it could be worse. My entire blog has been deleted.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Happens to me sometimes Iain
Tip. When it happens, upload the photo on an earlier posting, then paste it onto the posting you have planned it for, obviously deleting the original.
To be done on Edit.html page

  27. Iain, come over to wordpress. I switched, and haven't regretted it. Plus the guy who did the switch for me set up a redirect from my old site, so you get taken automatically to my new site. He also put links on all my old Blogger posts, directing readers to the equivalent Wordpress post. His company hosts my blog for the princely sum of $4 a month, ie about £2 a month.

It's way better than blogger. I was especially sick of all the downtime. In addition, I can create pages etc, so there's more space to play with.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm still using the "old" blogger.com, and I can post pics/links, have just tested it.
