Ten Things You Never Knew About This Blog... And Didn't Especially Care...

I'm being forced to watch An Audience with Take That (not that I am complaining - Patience is a superb song), so I have been idly looking at my blog stats. Well, what better way to spend a Saturday night?

I was amazed to discover that today this blog got it's one millionth unique visit this year from a UK reader. And a special prize is winging its way to Mrs Ponsonby-Smythe from 36 Acacia Avenue, Giggleswick. A few factoids for you...

* 86% of this blogs readers are from the UK
* 5% are from the US
* I have had a single reader from Anguilla, Tajikistan and 15 other countries
* 2.2% of people who visit have typed "john prescott" into Google
* 51,000 people have come here via Guido and 34,000 via ConservativeHome
* 24,836 blogs or websites have linked to me this year
* According to Technorati, this is the 2,171st most linked to blog out of 60 million in the world
* 6 July was best day with 11,202 unique visitors
* Sometime next week the blog will experience its two millionth page download
* Thursday is the day with most hits and 1pm-2pm the most popular

There, you can go to bed happy now, can;t you? Or just bored out of your mind...

Absolutely awesome, Iain. This is an incredible achievement and well-deserved.

  2. Sorry that you are being forced to watch Take That. I get forced to watch Torchwood, which is an infringement of my human rights.

About three people visited my blog. That is the only statistic I have.

  3. Iain, you are cooking with gas tonight and have reminded me why visiting your blog is a must for this political junkie. Keep up the good work!

  7. Verity would not touch tequila with a bargepole.

  8. I'm annoyed, very annoyed. How do you know I've typed 'john prescott' into google ? How dare you tell others. And by the way, what's it worth NOT to tell people that I've searched for Nigella recently ? And Kirstie Allsop. And Amanda Lamb.

By the way, verity, your sycophantic bullshit is naff, Un-British and very, very tedious. Stop it.

  9. The xth 'most linked' blog out of 60m sounds fantastic, until you realise just how much rubbish is out there.

Try typing 'jennytc' into google and view the sad jottings of a 'late middle-aged' [i.e. nearly 60] woman who is under the delusion that her life is interesting. And she has a 'novel' on the website. Hmmm. Looks rather like a transparent attempt to make an autobiography into one where she is the all-conquering hero. In the 'so bad it's almost good' box.

That said, Iain, given that there are 60 million people in the UK, that blog is the equivalent of a crack-dealing criminal. Whereas if you are in the top 3k that must make you either Royalty or Aristocracy.

Given that the number of 'celebrities' in this country, on top of politicians and landed gentry must now be enough to fill Wembley.

Keep up the good work, sonny, we do really appreciate it. But try links to crap blogs on a separate section of your 'blogroll' - you have to have bad, to know what good is.

  11. Hi,

you are beginning to sound like the EU - endless tedious statistics to justify your existence - at least, so far, unlike the odious EU you are not forced upon us we arrive here purely through masochism ;-(

Unlike the EU of course which is forced on us out of sadism to feed the greed of corrupt politicians.

    Regards,
    Greg L-W.

  12. Greetings from Canuckistan. Does Verity's revulsion for tequila indicate that she is on the mescal? Perish the thought; if Verity drank Blair would have to triple his bodyguard.

nony 10:14, Verity has made it clear she is Mexican; are you marginalizing her right to free expression? Good heavens, suppressing freedom of speech from a developing nation! You should be ashamed of yourself. Stand in the corner and read Atlas Shrugged until Iain says you can stop.

Iain, you could well have had hits from all those other countries; in some cases the dominant ISP in a country is from out of the country, so you'd get a "phantom" hit from the ISP's home source. Andorra probably mostly tracks as AOL Europe (Isle of Man) because there is, I think, only one actual Andorran ISP.

  13. "2.2% of people who visit have typed "john prescott" into Google"

Do you mean 2.2% of visitors got here by typing "john prescott" into Google. It's not the same thing.

Theoretically, all your visitors might have typed "john prescott" into Google at some point, and just not clicket through to here.

  14. Is Mrs Ponsonby-Smythe related, by any chance, to Queen Victoria's long-suffering private secretary...one General Ponsoby, I believe? Is Verity of the fair sex? And greetings from the one of the 5% in the Bagel...as Taki would call it....
