Report Reveals Irish PM Took Bribes

Former Irish Taoiseach Charles Haughey took bribes throughout much of his political career a REPORT reveals today.

And in other news, bears were seen s***ing in the woods.

  1. Corr, who'd have thought it.

They'll be telling us the Pope's a Catholic next.

  2. Will we have to wait until after the death of Bliar before the BBC report on his unethical practices?

  3. It took a 9-year tribunal, and how many millions to reach that conclusion?

    I glance homeward in pity.

  4. "The Moriarty Tribunal into Haughey's finances was launched in 1997."

I hope Balir gets justice a lot sooner than that.

  7. The difference is that previously we knew Haughey was an unpleasnt whatsit who was corrupt, now it's official.
Definetly Ireland's Lloyd George when it comes to corruption

  8. Charlie Haughey was bang to rights years ago so he was.

Now when are the gardai going to nail Tony's mate Bertie?

  9. Hmmm...I think you are being a little bit harsh here, Iain.

I remember watching the film 'Bugsy' starring Warren Beatty some years ago.

About the life of Bugsy Siegel, who more or less got Las Vegas off the ground. Ok, so he was a mobster.

Ok, there was bribery and corruption.

Ok, he killed people for fibbing to him, or double crossing him - strictly 'business' as they say.

But when they dress that tastefully, you feel it should be some sort of a defence.

Now if they did all that illegal activity and spent on bling and naff cars etc. - then I would say, put them in the slammer.

Haughey might have been a crook - but hey, he did in style...

  11. But he still gave Ireland 7% growth.

Lets see Mark Thatcher top that.

  12. In other news .... Iraqi vice-president says Blair changes his opinion to suit the last person he talked to.

  13. More to the point, everyone in Ireland knew he was a bit dodgy and still voted for him anyway.

  14. Yes well the fact that Ireland has PR didn't help!

  15. The point about PR would assume that the people of Ireland didn't deliberately decide that they preferred him, bribes & all, to somebody who achieved less.

I suspect they knew exactly what they voted for - which, as my remark about Mark, whose source of income was unknown, was meant to show, is more than we did.
