Poll: Shadow Cabinet Minister of the Year

I've just posted a new poll to enable you to vote for your Shadow Cabinet Minister of the Year. I haven't included David Cameron (he'll be included in a later poll) and unfortunately the software only allows a maximum of 20 choices so I have not included David Lidington, Cheryl Gillan or David Mundel (responsible for Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland respectively). No offence intended! The results will be published during the week after Christmas. If you'd still like to vote in other End of Year polls, here are the links...

  1. Hague - for his demolition job on the 'real tosser' - John Prescott.

  2. I'm torn between Hague and Davis on this one - both have done marvellous jobs of dismantling this government.

  3. Certainly Hague is worthy and it seems that like me, most people are torn between him and DD.

I chose David Davis because he could so easily have been bitter and twisted after the leadership election but instead has made a good natured and significant contribution to the front bench whilst still being very much his own man.

I like him a lot more than I did a year ago.

  4. I voted for Osborne, because I actually think he's doing a pretty good job.

He hasn't done anything stupid but is still managing to say things which actually mean something, and is slowly finding his feet against Brown in parliament.

When his balls drop, he really will be a formidable politician.

  5. If they are all as bad as one and another, doesn't this nullify the vote?

  6. Is David Davis off-colour? He hasn't forced a Home Office minister to resign for at least six months.

  7. Hague was an easy choice. He could have thrown a bag of newborn kittens into the Thamas and mugged an elderly women and I would have still voted for him.

    Hague for Prime Minister

  8. Is this a fix with DD winning and Iain being ex-chief of paperclips?

  9. I vote for Osborne
The first ever Homunculus to be shadow chancellor.

  10. It has to be Hague for me. I still think he should be leader - i really cant believe any Troy party Leader would have done any better in that fateful election campaign.

  11. Bear in mind the hard work done by other, perhaps less prominent shadow cabinet members. Chris Grayling does a splendid job and Andrew Lansley must be praised for his achievement in helping the Tories take on Labour on the NHS - and take a poll lead on this most important issue.

Osborne has also come on leaps and bounds, as shown by his PBR response.

  12. Ive tried to vote Hammond but it doesn't appear to be registering!!!

he's done a great job destroying Hutton at the dispatch over pensions!!!

    Can you please investigate

  13. David Davis is shadowing John Reid so well that he is even copying his sayings. I thought the whole point of being in opposition was not to mimic? So, that rules him out.

  14. Iain, could you possibly tell us the date for the event at which the prizes will be presented, so that we can get our dinner suits pressed, transport and hotels booked, late passes from the missus arranged etc. etc.

    Bagsy the 'spare' cheeky girl..

  15. Sorry, anonymous, I bagsed the spare cheeky girl before you, not implying in any way that cheeky boys are in any way less desirable or morally correct.

  16. Dominic Grieve - from a Labour supporter. And that's not being ironic.

  17. We found ourselves on the wrong thread.
Lord Strathclyde for us, but then lords are held in high esteem round here, have been for centuries. What a pity their House has been so demeaned and besmirched, but then most of them are safely out now and deciding what's what elsewhere.

  18. I, too, was torn between Hague and Davis, but I agree with Wrinkled Weasel. David Davis has shown extraordinary grace in accepting his loss and giving his best to the team. I think he would be a wonderful prime minister.

  19. I see theresa May has 1%.

I didn't realise you had so many readers in Maidenhead.

  20. Althought I would like to vote for Theresa May, who would make a great Prime Minister one day, in my opinion; I have to vote David Davis- the man who has led a strong Shadow Home Affairs team, affably and graciously. The star of the our own GOP who should have won the leadership election and should be leading a new age of traditional, right-wing policies from the Oppositon benches, rather than the pathetic Liberal elitist stance that mimics Blair and the Labour Party and is exactly what the silent majority in this country is sick of.

  21. We shouldn't forget the new members of the Shadow Cabinet who aren't so well known, but have done a good job. I think Hugo Swire was really effective at nailing John Prescott over his trip to the Colorado ranch, and his attacks on how Tessa Jowell and her department have been bought off by the overseas casino industry have been excellent. He just gets on with the job of holding the Government to account for their actions, and has made a good contribution. We should see more of him!
