Oh dear. Guido and I have joined the media Establishment according to the Press Gazette's LIST of the 50 People Shaping Online Journalism. Rupert Murdoch is number 1 on the list and Guido is 29 or 30 (they seem to have cocked the list up somewhere) and I am 34 or 35 one place ahead of James Murdoch LOL. This is the intro to the piece...
Who are the "new establishment" of online journalism in Britain? Who are the people shaping the latest developments in bringing journalism to new digital platforms? Our readers' nominees included a wide range of individuals, including media moguls, website editors, and new media evangelists. The nominations reflect the growing influence within media companies of board-level digital directors, a trend noted by the Association of Online Publishers earlier this year. They are not all from big media companies: bloggers and other independent online publishers feature prominently. Some have little presence in Britain, but represent ideas that are making their mark on the thinking of editors here. The ultimate ranking was determined from a panel of judges from across the industry. They represented the digital divisions of companies: national and regional newspapers, magazines, broadcasting corporations; one is editor at an online-only publisher. The judges were not told the identities of their colleagues on the panel, so they could vote for each other. The methodology lead to some unexpected results, of course, but offers at least a rough guide of whose ideas and innovations are being watched most closely.
The Top Ten were 1. Rupert Murdoch 2. Ashley Highfield 3. Craig Newmark 4. Simon Waldman 5. Pete Clifton 6. Carolyn McCall 7. Alan Rusbridger 8. Emily Bell 9. Annelies van den Belt 10. Murdoch MacLennan . The full list is HERE.
Where is Tom Watson? He has the most entertaining blog in blogland.
ReplyDeleteHe's changed his format and is sometimes very amusing as well as very informative. The downside is that it is a loose version of a Labour blog, but not everyone is perfect.
I personally thoroughly enjoy it.
I've heard that he doesn't allow anyone to post in though that is not a sandwell born and bred.
That must be very annoying.
Doom
Iain - You are becoming a repulsive egotist - I speak as a close friend. Please. for your own sake stop taking yourself so seriously.
ReplyDeletePress Gazette wouldn't be a Guardian imprint by any chance?
ReplyDeletemr doom is quite right and we're watching it very closely.
ReplyDeleteYou won't be a most visited blog much longer if we have to scroll down 6 feet to find any words.
ReplyDeleteI gather guido is complaining of being censored in blogland milliband. what is it with censoring people, surely it can't be abuse or vile language because thats everywhere in blogland. Is it personal, perhaps? If tom watson is up to this then as my mp he should be ashamed that socialists have descended to what they have always complained about right wing press barons.
ReplyDeleteIain, come on - media 'lists of the most important' etc are so luvvie and incestuous it's not true.
ReplyDeleteHaving direct exderience of at least one of the people on this list I can tell you that for all their undoubted abilities it is most certainly not their achievement. On a good day, they might even admit it.
No more of this, please. It goes against the grain of what sites like this are all about.
Blow your own trumpet by all means, because I like your blog, but steer clear of these apalling metro-centric love-fests.
Yes Iain, you are already a part of the Establishment and your fatal flaw, which is the size of your head (see banner pic) will be your ruin.
ReplyDeleteAlso, if the BBC offers you any kind of decent frontman job you would jump ship in an instant.
It is a shame that you so obviously and openly see this blog and 18 Doughty Street as a stepping stone to fame and fortune.
You are a shameless self publicist and it is becoming distasteful.
Repulsive egotist is a bit strong isn`t it ? As a late conmer here i find the idea that this is supposed to be subcultural suprising. It is main stream . Good, otherwise how would normal people , like me , find it.Why shouldn`t Iain clinb his greasy pole onlt a Socilaist is ashemed of ambition. Slither upwards Iain and ignore the causey adolescents
ReplyDeleteThe only one in the first ten that I have ever heard of is number is no 1. Guido is just a gossip column.
ReplyDeleteseems a bit unfair of tom to keep people out. must have a complex or something.unless he keeps out tories which is a lot silly.
