We've all done it - written things on our blogs which we've regretted later, although I have to say I don't think I have ever made quite such a fool of myself as Sion. Did Tom Watson goad him into it? The trouble is, it's not actually very good or very funny. It just repeats a mantra and makes some slightly insulting suggestions but hey, we've all done that in our time. It's fascinating that Sion Simon is attacking David Cameron rather than Tony Blair. I am sure this will come as a shock to many of his colleagues. Cameron himself ought to be remarkably relaxed by this row. After all, it will result in several thousand more hits to WebCameron. And it's given me a couple of opportunities to plug 18DoughtyStreet on Sky News and News at Ten (watch this evening).

Oops, Sion Simon Does It Again...
I suspect Sion Simon is feeling a bit of a prat tonight. Did Tom Watson goad him into it? The trouble is, it's not actually very good or very funny. The man is a Tw@t. I'm sure at his local "show and tell" the skill of stringing 2 coherent words together in a sentence is worthy of rapturous applause. Out here in the real world most of us demand a little more.

Watching him interviewed on the TV, I thought he looked and sounded a bit like Clare Short. What a fool.
ReplyDeleteMy friend Derek Draper would be able to explain the 'madness of Sion'. But let me try. Apart from ill health problems his life since entering House of Commons in 2001 has been a great disappointment. Lost columns Spectator and Telegraph and failure to get a Govt job despite consistent Blair arselicking. Bitter and now twisted he co-authored the Blair bugger off letter. In his demented desire to get Brown's favourable attention he does this web spoof followed by a deranged interview on Sky News. Simon's public suicide is an occassion for sadness. Sion get some therapy from Derek. Of all you NuLab zombies Derek has managed to get a life. Don't be proud ask for help - you need it. I'll pay.

"Political suicide note" seems to have been one of the more polite responses to this. I don't know a great deal about Mr Simon - I remember reading some rather tendentious ranting comment pieces, some while back - but other comments here have suggested he is not well and I would agree with that. The video suggests to me that he is depressed and seeking attention, and his appearance and manner on the Sky interview - looking and sounding a bit like David Walliams's character Sebastian in Little Britain - would seem to confirm that. I think Mr Simon needs support, and perhaps his constituents do as well.

ReplyDeleteMore interestingly, I see that a signed photograph of Boris Johnson is being auctioned on eBay (in the charity auction section) in aid of a school. Two days left, and the current bid is £5.50 - go on, Boris has real star quality, and it is in support of a good cause - you know you want to. (I have no connection with the school or with Boris, I just happened to be browsing eBay this evening.)
It could have almost been funny if it were not for the lame attempt at humour.

ReplyDeleteWell, yes, he's an idiot. But Cameron created this inane video language. There's a lot of doublethink in these comments. It's rather like reading the sports hacks discussing the tactics of the England team and failing to see there is no England team. What is Simon's crime? Being unfunny? Guilty. Being trivial and condescending? About as guilty as everybody else.

ReplyDeleteHis personal problems are no excuse, however much we may sympathise...he doesn't seem to sympathise with Cameron having a disabled child does he?
I not only suspect but am convinced that the best thing that could happen is for him to be thrown out of parliament because it is patently obvious he has no interest in his constituents and is in Parliament for himself alone. For a start he claims he is an MP to get Labour re-elected and other issues, NONE of which even hinted at serving the people that elected him.
He is bitter and twisted at being worked over for any kind of promotion. (the same thing exactly is for Mark Tami, whom I have some experience of) He is also pissed off completely because he has backed the wrong horse and will never get any promotion. He is a total closet Tory and wants to be a Tory, hence the attack on Cameron; making the attack personal was more telling than he may have thought, especially in the interview on Sky.

Sion Simon is on ITV claiming that he speaks for the youth of the area. The tory Councillor in erdington ward is 23. I wonder if he or sion speaks for the youth in the area more?
