I admit to having every record that Meatloaf has ever made, so as you can imagine I have been eagerly awaiting the release of Bat Out of Hell 3. Having just heard the title track on the radio I think I can safely say it won't be outselling the original. What a pile of ****.
I went to see the old rocker live at Blickling Hall in Norfolk last year. Frankly, his voice has all but gone. But Paradise by the Dashboard light remains one of my top ten songs of all time. A classic.
Iain,
ReplyDeleteHave you seen a doctor about you taste in music?
It worries me!
Cameron or no Cameron, being a fan of Meatloaf is an example of just how out of touch Conservatives are with the real world.
ReplyDeleteHard hitting stuff there Iain. No wonder you're so influential.
ReplyDeletegreat bitch tits too.
ReplyDeleteI thought you didn't need to declare your 'criminal record' if it happened more than 10 years ago... ;-)
ReplyDeleteSomeone's got out of bed on the wrong side - two bitchy comments in a row!
ReplyDeleteGood grief. It's a good job this blog doesn't have a sound track otherwise it wouldn't be quite so popular.
ReplyDeleteMeatloaf? And you're having a go at Yoko Ono?
ReplyDeleteI think James Cleverly has said all that needs to be said about this one...
ReplyDeleteYou'd think being such a fan, Iain would realise the name is written Meat Loaf.
ReplyDeleteI like Meatloaf too Iain, though am concerned that his latest single appears to be a Celine Dion cover - wtf?
ReplyDeleteI'm fortunate enough to have a friend close by who does a mean Meatloaf copy band act, close your eyes, and you couldn't tell the two apart. Now I thought you liked Dollar, your music taste is very eclectic, to say the least.
ReplyDeleteAww...c'mon now, we're all allowed these 'guity pleasures'. I still get dragged alone with my Dad to see the Rolling Stones every now and then and love it.
ReplyDeleteJust never admit to it....
Aw crap
Iain,
ReplyDeleteVoice? What voice?
Well at least one of the tracks from the new album was previously released by Celine Dion. I have heard Meat's version of it and its damn good. I will be getting the CD as I rather like his stuff. Rest assured I will be reviewing it in my blogcritics.org column.
ReplyDeleteJesus wept!
ReplyDeleteTwenty more years in the wilderness for you lot. The musical wilderness that is!
James Cleverly asks if you have seen a doctor about your taste in music? My spies in Norfolk tell me that you have: Doctor and The Medics.
ReplyDeleteI fear the above posts may be true- I'm a Meat Loaf fan too...
ReplyDelete...and I've heard Michael Ancram play his guitar at the Bear Hotel in Devizes...

Yes, he was truly awful on Radio 2. But you didn't mention it was the BBC Iain - are you so anti-Beeb now that you don't even mention it? Despite the fact that BBC radio is light years ahead of any of the other channels.
ReplyDeleteComing back to politics, why are we not discussing John Cruddas' challenge to Blair - interesting man, great interview on BBC Radio 4's excellent lunchtime news programme today - and David Blunkett's appallingly devious, lying and twisted diaries. Ghastly idiot who should never have been allowed into an office of state. And that's just Alistair Campbell - you should see the ministers!
At least you are honest rather than claiming to like the Arctic Monkeys.
ReplyDeleteI like to think that Blair revs himself up to Tina Turners "simply the best" everytime he gives a speech or shags Cherie)
Gordon on the other hand strikes me as someone who would like more of a traditional scottish theme such as "Gordon for Me"
and going into a deep sulk whenever he hears"March Of The Cameron Men "
Meat loaf meets Meathead meets Motormouth meets Motorhead. . . .
ReplyDeleteWhatever............
Meet meet!!
When Iain gets his moment on Desert Island disks we will all know if the image consultants have been let loose.
ReplyDelete........
Kirsty: "And which of those record would be the one that you take on your island Iain?".
Iain: "Either the Arctic Monkeys or Meat Loaf..... I think that I would have to go with Meat Loaf!"
Kirsty: "You have got to be f***ing joking!"
I must say, I'm appalled at the Meatloaf bashing in here...
ReplyDeleteLeave the loaf alone!
-listens to out of the frying pan-
That's the stuff!
Are you putting people on about this? Meatloaf? The Bat out of Hell Meatloaf? For real?
ReplyDeleteI like meatloaf with buttered cabbage, bashed spuds and claret.
ReplyDeleteDon't like the big sweaty girl with the hankie at all. Music for music haters.
Peter Hitchins has gone up quite a lot in my estimation simply by his awareness that there is a song called The March of the Cameron Men. He started from a low base.
Lordy, this blog has become a real bore since you started doing that telly thing wot no-one watches. When will normal service be resumed?
ReplyDeleteon at full volume to me as I post this....bliss...surround sound such a good invention
ReplyDelete"The Bat out of Hell "
ReplyDeleteLeave Cherie out of it. Tony tries to!
Meatloaf- pure pure pure!!!! I love everything he does.
ReplyDeleteYou're the same age as me, now where did you go wrong with your music? I was into Genesis, Yes, Queen and the likes...but Meatloaf?
ReplyDeleteFFS man couldn't you hide that until such time as you were an MP and then been outed by the Mirror or something?
Self flagellation is not pretty or endearing in a prospective politician.
A love of Meatloaf. Just occasionally an elderly Tory admits to something endearing.
ReplyDeleteThe first album is a classic.
This is the sort of admission that may swing my vote.
Actually the new Meat Loaf single was originally written for Bat out of Hell 2 in 1986 by Jim Steinman, but Steinman decided to use it in his own 1989 album "Pandora's Box - Original Sin" rather than wait for Bat 2. Celine Dion then covered the song in '95, so yes, it is a Celine Dion song but it was originally written for Meat Loaf.
ReplyDeleteI saw the Meat concert at the Royal Albert Hall on Monday, and while the new album is not up to the lofty standards of Bat 1 and Bat 2, it's still pretty good. The cover of Steinman's 1981 "Bad for Good" with Brian May on guitar is a hoot. At £40 a ticket, £20 for a t-shirt and £3:50 for bottled water, it wasn't a cheap night though!!
Having come out with all this, you can probably understand why I want to remain anonymous...
The best thing about Meat is the kick-arse voice of his. He makes most rock singers sound weedy in comparison. While some of his material has been a bit iffy...like his duet with Cher...the voice always rings through.
ReplyDeleteIAIN . I have had cause to speak quite severely about your musical skeletons in the cupboard before. First Sparks and now this outrage . What went wrong? If your taste in music were the house of an unknown -celebrity ( not a bad description of you actually) What would Lloyd Grossman make of the ghastly furniture .
ReplyDeleteSparks : Camp , obscure , trashy, flashy , trivial , unique , witty , clever , shallow and devoid of emotional content . Meat loaf : Showy , self mocking , referential , Conservative, fake rock owing more to Broadway than to Hendrix.
Now what sort of a person would live in a house like that?
