She concludes... Guido Fawkes is a blog of its disillusioned, exhausted time; it's a blog for the tail-end of the Blair era and the alarming lack of engaging alternatives. It may be anarchic, but it's not revolutionary. Sorry, Guido. Do your worst.
Does she not remember that Guido once tried to blow up the Palace of Westminster? Guardian Towers in Farringdon Road would be a doddle.
UPDATE Fri: Mick Fealty aka Slugger O'Tolle comes to Guido's defence HERE. Guido is so far remaining an untypical staesmanlike silence. Maybe he's keeping his gunpowder dry.

Right-wing voters will always be the witty, intelligent ones able to blog - the only funny Labour voters are professional comedians, manic depressives and circus clowns - the rest either have their heads to far up their arses or in a plate of pie and chips to use the internet properly.
The only thing to be "afraid" of the ambigiously sexed citizen Ros is them turning up at one of your parties, as a witty (Tory) friend once quipped about sex "If you can't tell you don't want to know."
Interesting that Ms Taylor gets a vague threat from your "Top Blogger". I received one back in Aug 2005. I wonder if this is the way that Paul Staines deals with all criticism?

ReplyDeleteTaking Guido seriously is a bit more difficult. Sexist, big-headed (even bigger than Iain's, which is something of a feat as Iain's head has been officially designated as a 'Pluton') and about as funny as a burning orphanage.
He has a bee in his bonnet about these loans for honours - with his guns trained 180 degrees from the truly sleazy target - the tories' dodgy foreign money.
With an aim as poor as that it is hard to see him really setting Westminster alight - still, I may be wrong...wouldn't be the first time and won't be the last.
I found it mildly amusing that she draws attention to a punctuation error by Guido "Lets [sic]" and then, just a few lines later, refers to "Iain's Dale".

ReplyDeleteHmm. Ros Taylor's piece seems to me to be merely a refinement of the discredited Greenslade-Campbell thesis that it is really journalists (and by extension bloggers) rather than politicians who are to blame for the growing public cynicism about politics.

Once I turned to you for guidance in the choppy sea of political discourse, now I feel stranded without a rude rowing implement. I have had to step into the breach myself and have today given a detailed review of the Liberal leaders sizzling address.

Guardian writers and journalists are worried. They know that what they pen only approximates to the truth (often not all that closely), but they have to hold down relationships with government, ands dare not stray too far from the government line.

Clearly you were never much of a historian Iain, because, as I remember it, the real Guido Fawkes failed miserably with his fellow plotters - and then was publicly hung drawn and quartered. Let's hope the same thing happens to this pretender.
ReplyDeleteHad a read of the article. Must say I agree with it in part. I don't read Guido's blog, and when I did, I found it rather pathetic, always going on about 'totty' and being rather juvenile in general. He is certainly a rather pathetic individual.
Further, I find many of his libertarian ramblings disturbing. Paul Staines likes to complain about lying politicians and their illegal loans etc. Fair enough, that is probably true - but he hasn't exactly been the greatest upholder of the law either - the 'wisp of smoke' comment in one of his articles comes to mind. Of course, this described his illegal abuse of banned substances which was a criminal offence. Perhaps someone from a law enforcement agency might like to investigate this interesting revelation?
Don't worry though, if not, his time will come soon enough. People know who he is really, and if he makes too many enemies, something rather nasty is bound to happen to him.
I now only read the dead tree press for a laugh and the telly for real stories i come to the blogs.
