Should I be Tamzin Lightwater's Party-Pooper?

In April I wrote THIS story about The Spectator's Tamzin Lightwater. I obviously didn't spell check it, but it only attracted two Posts. This week's Tamzin column features a piece about David Davis, which happens most weeks. She writes...

"He's [DD's] champing at the bit because he thinks we're not ready for Gordon: 'When you hunt big game you better make sure you're ready to kill with the first shot.'

Now the thing is, I have heard DD actually say that. Repeatedly. With regularity that causes eyes to roll. And it's not the first time I've spotted such things in this column. Now, if I think I know the identity of Tamzin Lightwater, would it spoil the joke if I revealed it?

  1. Go on Iain, do unmask her...

  2. No - the real person wouldn't be as much fun as the illusion of Tamzin, Poppy and others that I have in my mind.

  8. Who cares. Matthew d'Ancona is turning Speccie into a lifestyle mag. Tamzin and the newly introduced Style/Travel etc sections should be scrapped.

"One shot". De Niro in Deerhunter.

Brown has the appearance of a Big Beast but the heart of a hyena. Like most cowards he will die politically a hundred times because of his repeated failure to seize opportunities when presented.

  9. How about this...

"THEY TALK of little else at Tory HQ, claims Spectator editor Matthew d'Ancona. The new spoof column "Diary of a Notting Hill Nobody, by Tamzin Lightwater", which describes the life and scrapes of a junior Cameroon at campaign HQ, has generated huge interest in Tory high command."David Cameron and Francis Maude are big fans," says d'Ancona. "There has been a frenzied search for the identity of the author. At least five members of Shadow Cabinet have pleaded with me."

Now d'Ancona has had a T-shirt printed with a picture of Tamzin on the front, and the line IT ISN'T ME! on the back. Thirty T- shirts have been sent to Cameron and Maude. "

So, if you know, Iain, then why doesn't the shadow cabinet??

    (Is it d'Ancona?)

  13. Griswold is right, the Speccie is not what it was (and should be), and the Tamzin column and the lifestyle stuff are rubbish. It has become yet another magazine when it is supposed to be a newspaper. I have found myself just turning the pages recently rather than finding anything I want to read.
