The trouble with doing Top 100 lists is that you know that you're going to commit a huge howler. And they don't come much bigger than forgetting to include Recess Monkey. So I am suitably repentant. Quite how I shall atone for this error is unclear. SORRY ALEX! A mammoth amount of one way blogscratching is called for. Although perhaps scratching and monkeys are words I shouldn't include in the same sentence. Anyway, I do have an explanation of sorts. I originally included Recess Monkey in the Labour blogs section but then deleted it and was going to put it into non-aligned. But somehow the Cut and Paste never quite happened. Just the Cut.
Anyway, in the interests of accuracy, I should tell you that if Recess Monkey had been in the Labour section it ranks Number 3 and in the Non Aligned, Number 6. In the overall chart, released first thing tomorrow he would have been Number 13. Unlucky for some. Clearly.
So, let the abuse begin. And I don't mean monkey spanking. And if anyone notices any other glaring omissions, I'm already suitably ashamed. Leave it till tomorrow!
PS Yes, I do realise the picture should be the other way around, but I kind of liked it for reasons we won't go into.
I was going to ask...
ReplyDeleteYikes Iain.
ReplyDeleteThings haven't fully gone to plan then... Perhaps you should have done this preview thing a wee bit earlier and before printing?
I scoured your list for RM and was astonished not to find him there near the top...glad to hear it was just a clerical error...Perhaps you could atone by putting a link to his blog with every posting for evermore?
ReplyDeleteThat was the only head scratcher in, or rather not in, the list....
ReplyDeleteWhy are you bothered anyway?
ReplyDeleteI know courtesy dictates you should be accurate, but this socialist twaddle isn't that interesting anyways...(take cover!!) ô¿ô
I see the headlines now "Top Tory blogger likes to spank his monkey".
ReplyDeleteOhhhh ere missus!
We are all human, it happens ....
ReplyDeleteWell done for admitting this error.
ReplyDeleteDOH! in deed.
Like startin with startled Marlon up front instead of Tevez...........
Some ommissions from the lists which to me seem rather surprising are:
ReplyDeleteSamizdata- One of the biggest mostly UK based blogs in the world.
The Daily Ablution- One of the best right wing blogs out there, notable for having a Grauniad article dedicated to smearing him after he exposed the extreme islamist sympathies of one of their writers.
Half a dozen others spring to mind but those two are huge. Oh well, at least the ommissions boost the rankings of us lowlier bloggers.
As all good Guards Officers will tell you - Never apologise, never explain!
ReplyDeleteIs it my over-fertile mind, or does the man in your cartoon spanking the monkey bare an uncanny resemblance to Michael Portillo ?
ReplyDeleteFuck him!
ReplyDeleteand fuck his Bolshevik blog!
Socialism needs to be redefined as a form of mental illness.
A truly evil creed , people seem to forget that Nazism was just as much a Socialist cult as was Communism , only with smarter Uniforms and some really cool guns.
A few years ago, Peter Gabriel did a song called Shock the monkey.
ReplyDeletesome lyrics here...
'Too much at stake
Ground beneath me shake
And the news is breaking
Shock! - watch the monkey get hurt, monkey
Shock the monkey
Shock the monkey
Shock the monkey to life'
Haven't a clue what he's singing about, but it seems odd that he did it long before blogs were invented and somehow the words still fit!
How does the excellent Recess Monkey get to be 3rd as a Labour blog... and 13 overall, when my own, admittedly inferior blog is 2nd in the Labour list and 15th overall. I smell a rat.
ReplyDeleteThe way you rank blogs seems quite arbitary - why not have a Top 10 Chart that is released each week. One for a most hits on a Blog anoter one for a most comments on a Story.
ReplyDeleteYeah, how could you possibly leave off Samizdata and the daily ablution??
ReplyDeleteBob, you are too kind.
ReplyDeletePeter, you are a very scary man indeed - go away an play with your gun
Howler Monkey said.
ReplyDeletePeter's is not scary..Just sad.
Brian, it's quite clear that there wasn't enough room for those great websites and all those overly flattering photographs of the author of this mediocre guide.
