Never Let it Be Said that the Germans Lack a Sense of Humour
Well, it certainly shows what Harald Schmidt's sense of humour has been rather shakey as his career as an entertainer appears to come to an end. Let's hope it will be fast, and painfree.
Sorry, it is really funny to find this difficult for someone who had to live with the destroyed aftermath of Germany (the cultural desert for one thing) and, who is sick by seeing images of their grandparent being conned by Hitler.
Iain, bad taste, you scraped a hole in the bottom of the barrel with this one :(
Some stuff is just so unfunny that it is not possible to make jokes that intelligent people find funny. The German Reich, the Chinese cultural revolution, the Russian Gulags are examples of such cases, of which they are sadly too many in human history.

I rarely switch words like that only when I get stressed and ont occasion I'm really upset about Schmidt being so cheap and abour Iain then posting this as 'humour'.
That's hilarious!
ReplyDeleteShows the danger of vegetarian teetotallers in politics.............meat-eating drunks are far safer
ReplyDeleteI think that's the funniest thing I have seen yet on YouTube. The tears were almost streaming down my face
ReplyDeleteWas that small, smiling boy Pope Benedict, by any chance?
ReplyDeleteDoes that mean its ok to sing the dambusters in germany now?
ReplyDeletewas anybody arrested in germany at this world cup for making fun of the Germans?
Priceless
ReplyDeleteReally funny, made my Sunday evening .
ReplyDeleteNo wonder they burnt Cranmer at the stake with a comment like that.
ReplyDeleteSide-splitting. Unless, of course, one's granny was murdered by the Gestapo.
ReplyDeleteI think our own "Lambeth Walk" (c.1941) might have been a tad more comical. I wonder if they have ever shown that on Bundes-telly?
Good call Sir Bentley - 'Hoch Der Lambeth Walk' is an absolute masterpiece. Watch it at British Pathé. If you've any experience with film editing you'll know it must have taken days of work.
ReplyDeleteBetter version of 'Hoch der Lambeth Valk' at the National Archives: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/theartofwar/films/hitler_command.htm
