I am absolutely elated to hear that Esther McVey has been reselected as Conservative candidate in Wirral West. She fought a good campaign there last time and it's good that she wants to do it again. Boundary changes are in her favour and there's little doubt in my mind that she's on her way to the Commons. Esther is a very shrewd businesswoman who made her name with GMTV. She's a born and bred Merseysider and extremely popular locally. Go get 'em girl.
Esther is assured of victory. She is well respected in this part of the world.
ReplyDeleteEsther is a top candidate but she has alligned herself to the most awful camaigning association imagineable. She needs neighbouring Wallasey to run her campaign
ReplyDeleteBack in 1991, she was a Children's BBC presenter. She appeared in Edd the Duck's panto that year on BBC1 with the likes of Nicholas Witchell.
ReplyDeleteIrrespective of that, I'm glad she's been selected, as she was very nice when I met her (several years later).
Esther,
ReplyDeleteBest of luck. Despite other comments, us in CF and elsewhere in the Party know what you have been doing since 2005, and have been very grateful for it. The new CF team with Mark and myself will be helping growing your CF branch, and hopefully seeing you elected in 200(9)?!??!
That's top Tory totty? Times are tough.
ReplyDeleteAnd posing in a halter top isn't a great credibility-building move, is it?
Hmmm. Coming from Wirral I'd say she had a fight on her hands. Not that I don't want her to win, but I'd be surprised if the Tories take Wirral West or Wirral South any time soon.
ReplyDeleteThe best thing for Wirral would be complete boundary realignment. Neston, Parkgate, Heswall, West Kirby, Hoylake are relatively similar and the issues facing them are the same. Neston is lumped with Ellesmere Port. Heswall is lumped with Bromborough/Bebington. This means Heswall & Neston concerns are swamped by the more populous east.
It would make sense to have a larger West Wirral and a few constituencies on East Wirral.
In that part of the world, the 'seat most likely' for the Tories is Chester.
Still, the Wirral should be Tory - the fact it is not says an awful lot for how the party has been administrated in the North for some time.
It's unlikely she'll make much headway.
ReplyDeleteCameron and his privileged ilk are going down like a the proverbial fart in an elevator in Northern England. Recent local radio phone here discussing his merits against "the Scot Brown", had nearly all of the contributors favouring the dour man over the "posh southerner". Cameron's roots seemed more of a problem than Brown's. I'm sure you'll make plenty of gains in the South East, but in the North, Brown plays a lot stronger.
Fail to take seats in the North, no Tory majority.
