  2. Quite....
nor for his total lack of command of the English Language

  3. And what about his efforts in breaking down the social barrriers - by bringing croquet to the masses?

    Or his left hook?

Or reminding us that we're all middle class now?

  4. I too was looking for a "left hook" button, it might have made the result a little less decisive.

  5. completely off topic I know but...

why have you suddenly turned a peculiar shade of green?

Are you ill or is it my video card?

  6. greatest achievemnt?

How a lack of talent, and manners, and a horrible personality can become rich

maybe a right hook, and a dodgy dossier on a top man might have something to do with it!

I think its the amount of bile that emanates from the sleaze infecting NULAB that is infecting everyones PC's

  8. Virtually anonymous, I change my banner every few days to a different colour with three different endorsements. It is certainly a "different" green!!!

  9. Aha!

That explains the recent NuLib orange.

    Thought I was seeing things...

  10. He may have organised some reasonably serious kit (scary national emergency stuff) for fire brigades at a national level.
But unfortunately so far has failed on "hardened" comms kit for intra-brigade and inter-service communications. eg Herts control was overwealmed by 999 calls reporting the Hemel depot incident - so overwealmed that they could not get hold of other brigade HQs to get organised early on. This failure is due to the normal public sector specking of an "all singing all dancing system" that is always 2 years away from completion rather than a "make do and get on with it one".
Arguably this is what his super dept could have pushed through and didn't. - Oh well that won't matter if we don't need it.

  11. ....to use the analogy of The Battle Of Britain - it wasn't just the pilots and the Hurricanes and Spitfires wot won it, it was the incredible organisation of RAF fighter control and their comms. Someone (and he should be a National Hero) got organised in 1936....

  12. Good to see that the people have spoken with near unanimity

  13. Thirty votes for Urban Regeneration? I didn't realise he'd shagged so many women. That's half a council estate.

  14. How about:

Making Iain Dale the household name he is today.

  15. Iain - good to see you're practising what you preach. While the craven and biased mainstream media are covering petty, insignificant news like the explosive situation in the middle east, it's good to see torch bearing bloggers such as yourself are sticking with the REAL story - taking the piss out of Prescott.

  16. Does the Department of the Deputy Prime Minister have a shadowing Select Committee at Westminster?
If not ... perhaps avoiding being answerable has been his Greatest...thingy.

    Guido surely?

  18. Keeping the Tories out.

Couldn't find this as a choice. I'm sure the ommitance is entirely your fault.

  20. Good God we have to have something to laugh at, with the news as it is we'd all be topping ourselves. Thanks Iain, keep it up!

  21. How about: overcoming a deprived background, a shit dead-end job, and the social prejudices of those who think they were born to rule to rise to the second highest office in the land?

More like behaving like the classless oaf he is, screwing and barging his way up via the union thug route and only getting the job to keep the other union thugs happy rather than having any ability to perform said job? Had he been Russian he would have made it to Premier! He has behaved worse than the "Eton mafia" he is always whinging about yet obviously wants to emulate....can't do anything right so blames everyone but himself. Says it all about his total lack of character really....

    Gruaniad cub reporter,

Isn't it a bit rich to pick on Prescott's mangled syntax when working for said paper.

We don't know much about British politics but this guy, Prescott, he's useless from all accounts. Is that right?

Surely getting the job and keeping it is some achievement. And didn't he just have most of his powers handed to someone in Opus Dei? So he keeps his pay but does less work... he is an icon for our times.

This guy rules - good job, no ability, lots of sex (an unpleasant image admittedly).

Truly a hero but as the song goes 'If only he had a brain'

    The Loveable Neocons!

I WOULD LIKE TO POINT OUT, that my tag has nothing to do with my political allegiances.

I had a spat with STRAPWORLD on Guido's site, and he accused me of being a "Guardian Cub Reporter", and I thought that tag would be fun.
I now see it is having unfortunate and unforeseen consequences, so I shall change it.
I shall now call myself "Maggie Thatcher Fan" , It might give a clearer idea of my political persuasion!!

Oh, David, how you give yourself away with this sort of comment.

Of course John Prescott has made mistakes, and a lot of the political projects with which he has been associated have ended in failure, sometimes through his own fault, at other times through lack of support from Tony Blair. And as I have written on my own blog, I personally think he (and Blair) should now go to enable Labour to make a fresh start.

But that doesn't alter the fact that a large amount of the vitriol directed at him from the media classes stems from the fact that he is a working-class boy who had the temerity to think he had as much right to run the country as they did.

His achievement in becoming DPM in the face of that prejudice is, genuinely, one of the most remarkable political stories of modern times.

  25. Common Purpose, run from DCLG (ex ODPM) - the EU's new cadre for the takeover of Britain.

Their members already hold positions of power and influence in the Government Offices, Regional Assemblies, Police (one Cressida Dick is allegedly a CP member), and allegedly virtually control Plymouth City Council. (see

  26. But his greatest achievement is yet to come - When he spills the beans on Blair and Brown, the Gilbert and George of British Politics

  27. Paul Linford is being good today, perhaps I wrote it.

Very true though but let's not forget John Major who rose to the very top and subsequently to Edwina.

John will go when John says so and not before.

  30. Mr Linford,

when you write "His achievement in becoming DPM in the face of that prejudice is, genuinely, one of the most remarkable political stories of modern times." you are certainly correct

It is genuinely remarkable that in today's world, such a philandering, lying, over-bearing bully could rise to a position of such power.

I could just about understand it if he were good at his job, but he isn't even close to being mediocre at what he does.

Everything that Blair has reluctantly trusted him with has had to be taken away again because it is beyond his severely limited capabilities. If Prescott was working in the private sector, he'd have been sacked for gross incompetence years ago

And I get so fed up by people claiming that criticism of his mangled syntax and utter inability to express himself is merely snobbery. How patronising to assume that because he's working class he is therefore unable to speak properly. If he cannot clearly and succinctly argue a point then he shouldn't be in a profession where that ability is paramount.

He is a sop to old labour and nothing more (understandable really as Blair wouldn't want someone effective and clever representing them ). All Prescott has been is a drain on this country's resources.

He adds no value whatsoever (well, apart from as a source of amusement)

Paul's description of the poor young ship's steward risng to high office pulls at the heart strings.

All it proves though, is that you can be a complete and utter tosser and still rise to the top in our country's political system.
