Snape Ducks Newsnight Debate With Me

Lord Snape has been touring the broadcasting studios today defending his mate John Prescott, not altogether successfully. Newsnight invited him to debate the issue with me tonight but he declined, as did every other Prescott ally. It's debateable what that signifies. As the PM has given Prescott the dreaded vote of confidence it could well mean that he's about to resign. We can but hope.

Alternatively it may be that they don't want to debate with someone who claims to be part of david cameron's new Tory party and yet thinks gossip and hearsay aboiut people's private lives are matters of public interest. A word of warning on that one: what goes around comes around.

Notable that the Blair statement supporting Prezza, comments how important it is for UK politicians to canvass the opinions of leading businessmen - including it seems Republican American millionaires bearing gifts!......

Whatever happened to the party's non-conformist roots? At what stage did the Cabinet start to believe in the collective delusion that that covering England with casinos was a good thing? And would be welcomed by their supporters ? Maybe after a tad too much Republican hospitality?

Bit of a detraction from the main discussion, but I thought it was interesting how they introduced you with the title 'Blogger' (with single quotes). It looked like an implicit suggestion that bloggers aren't quite legitimate 'occupations'.

In the same way that David Davis was a one man army as Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee between 1997-2001 in holding Labour to account, so it is the case that you are doing likewise (in conjunction with Guido) at the moment.
