On the Media Tonight...
As Andrew Neill would say, you lucky people. I'll be on Sky News at 9.30 talking about Tony Blair's Health speech, and then doing the BBC News 24 paper preview at 10.50pm and 00.15am. Just so you know when to switch over...
Iain, Iain, Iain....Don't you know that 'Television is last century's medium'...not my words, but those of someone far higher in the political stratosphere than even your good self - the New Statesman himself...Alan B'stard. I binned mine years ago. Focus on this site and leave all that 'telly' stuff to all the Big Brother wannabes.
On a related note, you went up in my estimation when I found you owned a bookshop. But what are we to do now that most kids given books struggle because they can't find the 'on' button..one 2 ponder.
If you keep taking on these media assignments you'll never find the time to finish reading Being Gazza. Frankly, its already taken what seems like an eternity.
I think it would be much more interetsing if you talked about Mrs Beckett's statement about the US sending bombs to Israel through the UK to kill UN observers. What do you think?
Anonymous 5.15, for the first paper review we only get the front pages and virtually only the headlines are readable on a computer screen. So after the first one there's about a 45 minute wit until the physical copies of the papers start to arrive. The Sun and Times are always first. We virtually never get an Independent. So I spent half an hour choosing which stories I want to cover - some are a repeat from the first one but many will be from the inside pages. I always try to do a funny one to take the piss out of the presenter, which they normally enjoy. And if I have any spare time (like now!) I logonto this and moderate comments.
BTW Brillo Bonce stole "you lucky people" from Tommy Trinder, cockney comic of the forties and chairman of Fulham FC. He made Johnny Haynes the first £100 per week footballer after Jimmy Hill's campaign to remove the cap on player's wages. What do you mean, "who cares?"
Just out of interest, what do you do between paper reviews? Hanig around the sudio, or go to the pub? 10.50 til 00.15 is a fair bit of time to kill...
