I've just been asked to go on Newsnight tonight to be grilled by Jeremy Paxman about l'affaire Prescott. Gulp.
I'll also be on Sky News in their 7-8pm programme talking about blogs and their influence on the political and media worlds.
And for those of you who like to rise early I shall be on GMTV on Sunday along with Alex Hilton of LabourHome.
Still waiting for my invitation from the Daily Politics or This Week. Still, good things come to those who are patient...
From Iain Dale's Blackberry
Alex Hilton is on telly?
ReplyDeleteUh oh. Dumbing down?
Hope he isnt wearing that awful safari type outfit i saw him wearing in the Red Lion a year back.
I'd like to see you on This Week just for the fun of seeing you and Mr P go toe to toe over the Tory party!
ReplyDeletetell me Iain, does this media whoring pay well?
ReplyDeleteIf so, well done.
Go get them!!! Paxo needs a good stuffing!
ReplyDeleteIain,
ReplyDeleteOn another note, given that you your background, I just wanted to ask some advice.
Do you have any advice on a good book about US politics. Nothing too academic or overtly partisan but a reasonably good tour de force of how the system works etc.?
Help would be gratefully recieved. Thanks mate
If Paxo needs a good stuffing then London is apparently well-endowed with semi-retired very very civil servants who are currently 'resting' from their endeavours under the government!
ReplyDeleteIain, an appearance on This Week would be beneath you, after all it is "dummed-down politics" as you said yourself....
ReplyDeleteTom, as regards a book on US politics, I've got a rather good one called "US Politics Today" by Ashbee and Ashford. It is a little more academic than a general-reader, but it still makes for fairly interesting and light reading. It covers the Constitution, institutions of government, political parties, and elections.
Tom,
ReplyDeleteI know you directed your question at Iain, but can I make a suggestion? My other half studied US Politics at Keele, which has a very good reputation for that subject.
She was taught by Mike Tappin who (despite being an ex-Labour MEP and therefore you'd think was of dubious judgement) has written some of the definitive textbooks on US politics. See what Iain can source for you from him...

Just caught the tail end of your Sky News appearance. Sounded good.
ReplyDeleteBut tell me, are the journos really worried about a bunch of guys (and some girls) typing frantically away at their computers? Be nice to think that we are.

Not so much a comment for posting, just to say best of luck on Newsnight. I think you have the old "New meedja" rattled - but so do your chums on the left handed end of the blogosphere, which is the real point of the silly spat with Nick Robinson.
ReplyDeleteYou might ask Paxo in the Green Room afterwards what is the EXACT spelling of that Yeeerrrrsss thing he used to do on Spitting Image? It comes in handy for so many posts...
Iain good luck against Prescott-defenders. Sorry to see they are wheeling the same people out about blogging though (...ducks...)
ReplyDeleteSaw you on newsnight, very impressive.
