Read this sentence very carefully...
'Lib Dems do not believe it matters where a candidate lives but how committed they are to the area they wish to represent".This was in a leaflet from the LibDems in Chester, whose candidate lived in Wales. The local Conservatives
played the LibDems at their own gamewere rather naughty and had put out a flyer with a Welsh dragon on it, suggesting it was to be the new Lib Dem logo. The Lib Dem agent went potty and put out a leaflet that said: 'Lib Dems do not believe it matters where a candidate lives but how committed they are to the area they wish to represent".
The Conservative candidate won the seat coming from 3rd to 1st.
Lib Dems saig one thing in one place and another elsewhere - no way!
ReplyDeleteNot bitter, then
ReplyDeleteMy father was a parish councillor in God's Own County for many years, and while not given to strong language could never say the word 'Liberal' without prefacing it with 'bloody', because of his experience of grubby campaigning by them even at parish level.... He quite liked the socialists though.
ReplyDeleteIain, darling, I don't seem to be able to add a comment to your piece about the right blogosphere gloriously triumphing over the left blogosphere. When you have overcome your undoubted technical difficulties could you please add this comment to your said piece:
ReplyDelete"So, someone from the right blogosphere says that the left blogosphere isn't as good as the right blogosphere. Oh ye Gods! Pass a couple or seven fingers of a stiff Glenfarclas 105 cask strength immediately."
Paul, Bitter, moi? Not a bitter bone in my body. I exude sweetness.
ReplyDeleteMark, oh change the record. You're becoming boring.
Paul sweetie, no one else seems to be having a problem...
Oh dear, I'll put my bifocals on dearie. Still can't see "comments" there. I'll chuck this computer out and try my other one tomorrow. This is a bit like Stacked-on-Tressel Parish Council meeting.More sherry?
ReplyDeleteIain, as an armchair LibDem (of the Communist wing) it pains me to say this, but... why on earth are you in the slightest bit bothered about what the LibDem candidate in Bromley says? We don't have the faintest chance of winning. You know that as well as I do.
ReplyDeleteDr Fegg, because i love winding people like mark senior up. beats watching big brother...
ReplyDeleteYou couldn't use that upside down libby a bit more could you? I first saw it in 1993 at the Newbury by-election as part of the Conservative literature and I must say I was really impressed with it then and even though I have now seen it used 1239 times y the Conservatives I still am truly and sandal-shatteringly impressed by it everytime. I can't get enough of it. More please!
ReplyDeleteJonathan Sheppard gets comment of the day!
ReplyDeleteMark Senior - as do your anguished liberal cries.
However, we know that Lib Dems are totally morally corrupt. They will do anything to gain office - including the usually misrepresenting, naked political opportunism, lying, cheating - you name it, the Lib Dems have done it (unless it is fair and reasonable of course.) Even the Labour party aren't as bad as that party of morally corrupt toads (well, some of the Labour party anyway.)
In fact, the Lib Dems even wrote a book on it - Effective Opposition, which tells of all the nasty tricks they use.
Paul, you are rapidly becoming my number one reader. I am worried.
ReplyDeleteLove the aquamarine banner! It looks very, very smart!
ReplyDelete- Anonymousette
The Lib Dems are well known for their pavement politics. Different politics for every pavement.
ReplyDeleteThey pioneered dirty tricks electioneering, mainly because they have to be dishonest to get elected. Tony Blair took it to a new level. They even wrote a guideline for their candidates on "playing dirty."
Now they are desparate with their lacklustre new leader after backstabbing Charles Kennedy, a far superior leader who was well liked.
And as the Tories are stamping on their ground they are doing a Tony Blair and ditching their policies in order to move to the right.
Not surprising they are seeing a number of their councillors defect to the Tories. Lib Dems are an utter shambles.
If any elected Lib Dems are reading this, I strongly suggest you join the Tories, before you lose your seat.
Just a piece of friendly advice.
Completely off the point and very petty I know. But the blog banner looks so much better in blue. I guess the trick you talked about is that it changes every few days. Can we have a vote to keep it blue?
ReplyDeleteIt matters a great deal where the candidate lives. We know all MPs end up living in London so any ties they have to the constituency are appreciated.
ReplyDeleteIain,
ReplyDeleteChanging the subject .. nice to see you throwing away you profits from the little red book of new labour sleaze by sending copies to MPs ... can long time readers of the blog be sent free copies as well?
JustMe
Chris, time to sponge your palms down again?
ReplyDeleteMark Senior
ReplyDelete1. Why, as you mention, would any anti-Lib Dim spleen get more desperate? What earth have they done to make any desperate(apart from desperately bored)?
2. The real name smear. Some people post under their real name, some don't. Many are publicly known and display their photographs. I choose to keep my identity to myself. Privacy - quite legitimate and has nothing to do with fear.
3. The Martian from space would have to have fairly well developed political prejudices to deduce what you say from this blog. In the unlikely event that the planet was far enough away to have a Lib Dim majority, I suggest you send the fundraisers there to see if they have 2.4m quid spare.
A very long post considering the Lib Dum's importance in British politics.
Paul Walter opined "Not bitter, then?"
ReplyDeleteCourse not. That best describes George Lyon.
Isn't he earning enough?
Still recognise that Lib Dem logo from somewhere. ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt's because people hate liars Mr Walter.
ReplyDeleteThe hypocrisy and arrogance of political parties and their supporters never ceases to amuse me. This blog and the comments thus are more fun than the Private Eye website
ReplyDeleteThe Lib Dems seem to have a problem with hypocracy.
ReplyDeleteTheir leader in Chester, Paul Roberts, has claimed that he is committed to proportional representation, yet the LD's then packed the cabinet with their own members after forming a coaliton with Labour, and the biggest party on the City Council is not represented at all!
