Well for lack of anything better to do this evening (I should be at Upton Park watching the Hammers v Wigan but the roads are very icy here...) I thought I'd do my annual political awards...POLITICIAN OF THE YEAR
David Cameron - need I say more?! And this is not just a blatant attempt to curry favour to get on the A List! Having risen from nowhere, DC's first few weeks give us all hope for the future.
CONSERVATIVE POLITICIAN OF THE YEAR
Dominic Grieve - proof that nice guys can do well in politics. I've worked with him over the last six months and his work on the Home Affairs team should have elevated him to the Shadow Cabinet.
LABOUR POLITICIAN OF THE YEAR
Hazel Blears - can she really be as cheerful as she always looks? She's like a little chipmunk at the Despatch Box. I love her!
LIBDEM POLITICIAN OF THE YEAR
Er... can't think of one who merits the description. Oh alright then, John Hemming, for his services to the family...

ReplyDeleteYou maybe could have come up with a Lib Dem politician of the year had you thought hard enough about it. Did any of their MP's increase their majority by a factor of twenty or so to your knowledge? If so, they should probably be shortlisted at least.

ReplyDeleteIsn't it great how the LibDems will always rise to the challenge! But typicaly anonymously... Yes, I could have nominated Norman Lamb, but since the election he's been rather invisible despite having a high profile portfolio. David Heath I don't think is worthy of the accolade. Perhaps the award should go to Charles Kennedy for keeping his job...for now...
ReplyDeleteI agree about David Heath- nominated for MP of the Year by the House Awards along with Grieve, and someone who seems to chose to do alot more work that other Backbenchers/total unknows.

I think the Labour politician of the year, no, the decade, must be Ken Livingstone. The man consistently thrashes your lot, and does a pretty neat job on many of ours.
ReplyDeleteAs it happens your time was better spent than going to Upton Park! Political survivor of the year should go to Bob Marshall-Andrews for conceeding Medway on election night only to find out he'd actually won it 2 hours later!
ReplyDeleteOh, you mean the same Ken Livingstone who thinks of ever new ways to fleece London -well I have news for him -I am not paying my council tax which has to do with the Olympics. I didn't ask for them, don't want them and they will do nothing to make the Northern Line better as all funds will be diverted towards the Jubilee line. He can shove it where the sun don't shine!
