Obama Seeks to Invite the Queen to D Day Events

How embarrassing. Justin Webb is reporting that President Obama is trying to get the Queen invited to the D Day commemorations. What a humiliation for Gordon Brown. Yesterday he told Andrew Marr that questions about this should be addressed to Buckingham Palace. Today he seemed to blame the French. I could make further comment, but best not...

  1. Maybe he's not such an arse after all.

  2. Comres will produce a poll which says the entire country think that this is the best way to go about it.

  3. She should tell ALL these socialists to "get lost". Better still - let Philip do it for her - a bit of Anglo Sax Coburg wouldn't go amiss.

The public won't forget Brown's dissimulation.

  4. Instead of Brown?

Not surprised - any successful politician would go to any lengths to avoid being stuck next to Gordon.

  5. Until around Saturday, something of a "Where's Gordon?" meme was developing. Nobody had any idea where our unelected despot was residing. Indeed, no one seemed to know if Brown was still alive, or if he'd just been spending the previous few days on his rocking horse.

Now that he has come out of the bunker and done a series of interviews, I wish he had stayed in hiding. The man really is a complete, utter and total hoon*. There truly is no politician who I hate more than Brown, and that takes some beating. Is there nothing he won't say, nothing he won't do in order to make sure nobody tries to blame him for his own stupidity and idiocy?

*euphenism for a word not allowed in comments on this blog. You work it out...

  6. Gordon Brown truly is incredible. Just when I think he has reached rock bottom he manages to mess something else up to an almost inconceivable extent. Is there any part of the UK and its people that is safe from the baleful influence of this living Jonah?

  7. I'm not a Royalist, but even I was disgusted with Brown. The current situation is that the Queen is the head of state. She was alive during the war, her home was bombed and her future husband was fighting abroad to rid us of the threat of Nazism. She has more right to be there than him. I bet he advised the French not to invite her.
Clearly he can't stomach being number 2 [ironically that's exactly what he is]. Can't wait for the elections. As Longshanks said, Its good to leave a turd behind.

  9. Brown was too busy calling runners up in talent competitions!

They clearly believe Guido Fawkes when he talks about the curse of the "one-eyed son of the manse". I saw a picture of Brown holding a baby in the Mail on Sunday yesterday. I'm terrified to imagine what might happen to that child were the curse to take effect once more.

  11. I hope she tells the lot of them to get stuffed and decides to hold a parade in London followed by a public 'walkabout' in Trafalgar Square .... it will dominate the news here and send a nice message to miniSarkozy about our history.

  12. Wouldn't it be absolutely fabulous if HM could go to France as the result of a formal invitation from the American Head of State?

  13. Does HMQ have to be in Buck house to accept our Dear Leader's resignation or will Arromanches do?

  14. i don't think the queen would go now, they've missed the boat (or is it landing craft?) for inviting her. sarkozy could have rang her personally and said he assumed his staff had sorted that out as it was that obvious to invite her, and say he was personally sorry. the current situation with obama, i can only imagine that it is like finding out you weren't invited to the party and your mate is having a word with the host.

  15. It may have escaped your notice but the most important event in the sporting calendar takes place this Saturday : namely The Derby at Epsom. As per every year since she ascended to the throne (bar 5 years ago for the DDay 60th events) the Queen will be in attendance.
Let the poor woman enjoy her day at the Races ! Since Charles & Camilla !

  19. Gordon Brown is responsible for this whole fiasco. The Queen ought to be present because the remaining veterans are of a generation which were loyal to the Crown and HRH.

Playing politics with such brave people is just beyond belief.

  20. Finally someone has recognized the need for the queen to be present.

Have you put up a link to your radio podcast from last Friday yet Iain.

  21. It is really embarrassing that we have to rely on the US to get an invite for the Queen.

Gordon's ego and desire to be photographed alongside Obama know no bounds.

If the Queen does attend, following an American invitation, then that is one big Royal dissing of Gordon Brown. Of course Brown would deserve it too.

  22. D day seems a bit irrelevant now.

What were they fighting for? Daniel Finkelstein may beg to differ, but in fifty year's time, there will be no Church of England, LBGTs will officially not exist, women will not have the vote, there will be no popular music, no radical new drama, no blogs, and your children will have to learn the Quaran.

Oh, and for those who are passionate about this sort of thing, no Royal Family.

  23. The Queen will witness and be affected by much less horse shit at Epsom than if she went to France.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Gordon doesn't seem to know when to call a general election, either.

Perhaps the Queen would help him to decide that, since he seems to have forgotten how to decide when to help her.

  25. How bad must Brown be doing, to give the Monarchy a boost in credibility just for his lack of an association with them?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Just when you think things genuinely cannot get any worse, they do... Gordon Brown really does have a lot to answer for.

    ReplyDelete
  27. No surprise. Obama and family went to stay with the Queen and Phil and were bowled over.

Deep down Brown hates the monarchy. (Especially the bit when he has to go to BP to resign...)

Personally, I'd send Prince Harry in uniform and let him stand quietly in the ranks with the veterans....

  28. I agree that HM should go to the Derby on Saturday 5th, where she will be enthusiastically greeted by her loyal subjects.

However if she fancies a day out on Sunday the 6th, the D-Day anniversary, as she is Duc de Normandie by hereditary right & descent from William the Bastard, she could if she pleases drop in on the Franco-US celebrations and welcome both Presidents to her duchy [and no doubt be enthusiastically greeted by the assembled veterans of every nation].

  30. The Queen knows how this will play with the vast majority of the British people.

Brown is doing this to stand alongside Obama (My friend!) on the world stage.

But, like everything Brown has done, it will fall in on him.

I just hope the assembled veterans will give Brown an earful of abuse.

Mind you it would be delicious if the Queen sent Princess Anne and she made Brown stand behind her! That would be 'majestic'

As for Wrinkled Weasel's warped view of the future. A future in which we are all under tyranical sharia law.

At least we will be spared from WAGS! Harriet Harman!
    Margaret Becket etc.

WW suggests there will be no Queen. may I put to him the more frightening scenario.

Do Not forget how he told us he read the Koran every night!

    How about AYATOLLAH BLAIR?
as grand ruler! Of course Mandleson would not be around, as he, sadly, would have been stoned to death in the London Dome.
    Renamed DOOM!

J H Holloway - brilliant idea, send both the lads in uniform and then Betty could go to the races and invite the vets for tea in a month or two. Brilliant.

  32. If I were Queen would I be overjoyed at the prospect of hours in the Company of Mc Brooon? Perhaps he's doing her a favour.

  33. Iain,
You say "I could make further comment, but best not..."

However, it occurs to me that the very existence of this little piece might lead some to believe that Brown has been incompetent and dithering. How can this be? He is prime minister and an intellectual giant.

    ReplyDelete
  34. A big boy did it then ran away - Gordon's usual excuse!

Will he punish the Queen for this trouble caused for him? - remember the announcement about Royal marriages after Mervyn King had been invited to the Palace - an attack on Civil List perhaps? It being "the right thing to do". He is a petty little man after all.

  35. Oliver Drew said: "Bit of an embarrasment isn't it, that the American President holds our Queen in higher regard than does our Prime Minister."

I don't think Obama does. They are both fickle politicians but Obama has the nouse and stature to make it appear he is leading efforts to get HM to the do. It is not his responsibility it is Brown's but Brown made up his mind months ago and will not change it.

I'm sure the Royal Marines could get HM to the beaches of Normandy quite quickly...

  36. On a more positive note, when The Queen attends the 75th anniversary neither Sarko or Broon will be remembered save as a faint distasteful memory. Unless, of course, the Mendacious Manseman is finally released from broadmoor thet weekend.

  38. I have to admit I hate the Frogs tho not quite as much as I do the Labour "government". They have never forgiven us for knocking seven bells out of them at Agincourt, Waterloo and all the other numerous campaigns, not to mention two world wars.
They are a nation of collaborators and quislings.
