Last week we had eyewitness accounts from Andrew MacKay's public meeting and a caller called Lord Elvis, who rang in and sang a song about Nadine in the voice of Elvis Presley. Who knows what will happen tonight...
Iain,
ReplyDeleteDid you see Norman Lamb coming out in support of Ian Gibson re: expenses? I think Lamb is a decent bloke.
Topic 1:Expenses versus voting record
ReplyDeleteA comparison of MPs voting behaviour versus their rating on the sleazeometer. Two examples are those MPs who voted to deny the Electorate a referendum on the Lisbon Constitution and those MPs who defy the whips.
Topic 2: Electoral fraud
If I tick party A on my ballot paper on June 4 and the same ballot paper has an additional tick for Party B on count day, June 7, then presumably it will be declared void and neither I nor the scrutineers would be any the wiser.
Is there any published guidance on how to make any tampering with a completed ballot slip detectable after the fact? Can a voter request to see their own ballot paper at the count? As the ballot papers are numbered, presumably this would be possible.
Iain why dont you do a qucik review of last nights Question Time, see who you thought connected most with audience etc.
ReplyDeleteThen i would talk about wHas David Camerons reputation been damaged this week?
Try to find out what the HMRC is dong to pursue the tax evading cabinet flippers. Your chimpmunk paid back the supposed tax due but did she also pay the outstanding interest on missing her payment by a few years?
ReplyDeleteLord Elvis is unwell
ReplyDeleteIain
ReplyDeleteJust reading David Craigs book Wasted and Im interested in a rant about the Olympics.
If I can't hear it live, I'll use listen again, later. Great show, last week.
ReplyDeleteLatest polls put Tories 20% ahead and Labour on 21%
ReplyDeletehttp://plato-says.blogspot.com/2009/05/labour-white-out.html
Times to publish a poll tomorrow putting Labour on 16% in the Euro elections.
ReplyDeleteBrown, Harman, Blears, Hoon, Smith etc, etc will all have to GO immediately if they are to have any chance in defeating the Monster Raving Looney Party next June. Ha, ha.
Guido is right he is the kiss of death. His bad-luck spreads through the party like a cancer. Slowly destroying everything he touches.

I enjoyed your contribution to the Lesley Riddoch show today on Radio Scotland. She used to have a daily radio show on Radio Scotland and was excellent. But she fell out with the BBC and left in a bit of a cloud. She was a bit 'feisty' as we say in Scotland and took no prisoners. It's good that she has patched things up but a pity it's just a Friday show.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your show tonight.
Only 'cos I want to hear your sexy voice Iain.
ReplyDeleteMorley's 'Genuine Mistake'? How does anyone pay off a mortgage - and not know?
ReplyDeleteI will tune in tonight, Iain!
ReplyDelete(word verification for this - stailin - is there something we should know?!)
Headline in the Telegraph
ReplyDeleteMPs who have used taxpayers’ money to pay for “phantom” mortgages on their expenses should be investigated by the police and prosecuted, David Cameron says in an interview with The Daily Telegraph.
all I can hear is music on that channel. wtf????
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you realised after 11 minutes that something was wrong...it's ok now.
ReplyDeleteIain - you can use AV for single member constituencies. There's no need to form multi-member seats, no need to pick closed-lists, it's perfect for you, and no boring LibDems droning on :)
ReplyDeleteStill can't get it live. I think Firefox has buggered my media settings. Firefox will not work with Realplayer and Media Player can't support the file extension.
ReplyDeleteGet a producer! It's your show, it's your agenda. Pretend you have some listeners, and imagine how you can keep them tuning in. This 'What would you like to talk about?' approach is going no where. Also get someone to answer your studio phone, there is little point to a phone in otherwise.
ReplyDeleteNice to get on the show, Iain. Congratulations on its success.
ReplyDeleteSince you're a party politician I guess it's in your veins to support the whipping system. I still think I'm right though. To my mind it's such a simple solution to the problem.
Talking about the inner workings of British politics took me back a few years to all the hours I used to spend on uk.politics.electoral and analysing the work of the boundary commission - shame I never did write that book!
I suppose I should pull my finger out and write an article for you.
Someone called Val called in to the show to draw attention to the mother who is being prosecuted for lying about her address in order to get her child into a school.
ReplyDeleteHow can that be a crime when there are so many people in positions of power in the Labour government who have seriously abused the expenses system - in some cases, fraudulently - who are still in their jobs and haven't had their collars felt?
Great show tonight, really enjoyed contributing to it. I almost get the feeling that the media has targeted Tories more this week because they're getting access to DC & senior Tories, as opposed to the Labour cabinet all hiding inside Browns bunker, trotting out sound- bite unfriendly party crap. looking forward to next Fridays show-
ReplyDeleteMike - (from Cardiff)
ThatsNews, you can watch the show in WinAmp or similar - just paste the stream link into it.
ReplyDeleteGreat show Iain (thanks for reading my comment about AV! It's true - no lists, no fake constituencies, a continued link between MP and seat)
ReplyDeleteBut I guess it IS a bit dry for a phone-in show ;)
Next week I /hope/ to be able to take part in your election specials, should be really interesting!
You're going head-to-head with Galloway? His radio show is very popular.
ReplyDeleteSounds like I missed a great programme!
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile
Simon 'Hefferlump' Heffer poses and preens, taxman might do Labour MPs for collusion, Labour behind UKIP, an argument that a far-reaching expenses enquiry is required and more news and comment from Thats NewsThe wv is aired. Spooky!
Populus in Times say
ReplyDeleteCON 41(+2) LAB 21(-5) LD 15 (-2)
... and in the Euros
CON 30 LAB 16 LD 12 UKIP 19 GRN 10 BNP 5
Hmmm...
