TONIGHT from 11pm-1am Call the Iain Dale Radio Show

Tonight I'm hosting a pilot Talk Radio programme for Play Talk from 11pm-1am. It's part of PlayRadioUK, a new internet radio venture with 15 different stations. To listen just go to http://playradiouk.com and choose the Play Talk channel.

It's a very loose format - no script at all. Just me, a microphone and the listeners and the odd bit of music thrown in for good measure. We'll have plenty to talk about, not least MPs' expenses, Joanna Lumley & the Gurkas, the BNP, the European elections and anything else that takes my - or your - fancy.

I hope some of you will be tuning in and taking part.

Email talk@playradiouk.com
Skype play.radio.uk
Twitter @playradiouk

Do try to Skype me in the studio if you can't get through on the phone.

And if you have any ideas for the show, let me know!

And finally, a competition. Richard Bacon signs off his late night show on 5 Live copying the Midnight Caller programme, with "Goodnight Great Britain, wherever you are".

How should I finish the show?

UPDATE: Listen to the Podcast HERE.

  4. Try:

Goodnight Damien McBride, wherever you are.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Play the National Anthem?

Good luck - will try and get around to tuning in!

    ReplyDelete
  6. If its a oneAM sign off how about "Big shout to all you truckers out there."

  7. Ellee Seymour tells us that a vote for UKIP is a wasted vote. I wonder if you will mention the UKIP adds on TV just now? I'll have to listen in..

    ReplyDelete
  8. Might be worth talking about Nick Clegg.

He seems to be coming good at last. Gurkhas, PMQs and MPs expenses, to name but a few.

    ReplyDelete
  9. A hearty rendition of "I'm forever blowing bubbles" would be nice. It's like the national anthem, only better.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I wonder if George Galloway will phone in to return the compliment?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Iain, would you please sing a song on air?

It would make my Great Aunt Beatrice's night!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Remember: "Never believe anything in politics until it has been officially denied." Night night.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Goodnight Britain Whoever You Are...

    ReplyDelete
  14. How about..."So long and thanks for all the Fish!"

    ReplyDelete
  15. You could end the show by playing a Cliff Richard rocker..

    Nine Times out of Ten.

The first record I ever bought.

ps I will tune into the show.

  16. "Just me, a microphone and the listeners and the odd bit of music thrown in for good measure."Oh dear.... Abba and Cliff perhaps?

    Cringe. ;-)

  17. 11pm-1am on a Friday? Good grief, what state will most of your callers be in?

Finish off with the theme from The White Horses. Or Belle & Sebastian. For no particular reason except middle-aged sentimentality.

  18. 'I’d like to thank you for listening to me and my little show here tonight. If you’ve enjoyed it then it's all been worthwhile. So until we meet again, goodnight, and I love you all!'

"By ramming the microphone up your arse?"

That's just made my day. Crude but bluntly hilarious.

  23. Goodnight Tory boys and girls - remember not to look under your beds.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'd be tempted to mention the No. 10 petition which is only up to 55,000 (ish). We need to get it to 100,000! Best of luck with the show.

  25. Remember: Expense claim systems don't rob the taxpayer, politicians do. Night night.

  26. I find the "ramming up the arse" comments offensive.

If, however, anyone wants advice on how best to achieve "Anal Pleasure and Health" I suggest they buy the book of that name from Amazon.com. [It's written from a heterosexual point of view, but explains the pleasures involved both for those with a prostate and without].

Meanwhile, very many straight women have told me about how much like that "little finger" during oral sex, but don't want to talk about it afterwards.

And very many women (lesbian and straight) have a three-pronged rabbit.

  27. "Live from Chichester, it's Saturday morning!"

  28. about this, Iain?

    "Talky Daily, nightly"

    ReplyDelete
  29. Sign off : 'England Prevails' as used in v for vendetta?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Maybe, if you are talking about MPs' expenses, you could have a 'Network' style breakdown live on air...

Hmm..On second thoughts, save that for a week or two...

    ReplyDelete
  31. You really must spell GURKHAS correctly...

    ReplyDelete
  32. How about a little musical jingle with catchy lyrics mocking the week's news, as Jonnie & Denise used to do at the end of each Friday's Big Breakfast.

The chorus went a little something like this:-

Singing, wakey, wakey, wakey rise and shine,
The Big Breakfast is the only way to dine,
It's your number one big breakie
So get it down your neckie,
And stick with us from seven until nine!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I see that V beat me to it with "England prevails". How about "Be safe, be happy and don't let anyone make you afraid".

Good luck with the show Iain.

    ReplyDelete
  34. How about:

"Goodnight, and if you've enjoyed the show, my name is Iain Dale. If you haven't, my name is George Galloway!"

    ReplyDelete
  35. By ramming the microphone up your arse?I have to admit that was quite funny and all the more credit to Iain for letting that pass uncensored.

Iain, good luck with the show tonight. How about finishing off with some Frank and "My Way"?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Goodnight and Don't Forget to Vote Conservative on June 4th!

    ReplyDelete
  37. "Good night and may your god go with you."

No need to cut your finger off!

    Topic 1:

It seems to be the case that the Ruling Class in general and the Drive-By Media and the main political parties in particular have a rather selective acknowledgement of the existence of indigenous peoples. Namely that there are indigenous people of America, Australia and Africa but not the British Isles. Why? Is it to foster the belief that the indigenous people of the British Isles have no more right to the British Isles than the indigenous peoples of the world?

How does the Ruling Class define the indigenous people of North America, Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka or Tibet?

Is anyone indigenous to anywhere? If so, how? If not why not?

    Topic 2:

How is it that almost everyone I have ever met who went to a pre-WWII one room school with all ages taught together were literate, could argue a point and valued the same in others, yet the youth of today cannot?

    Can anyone explain this phenomenon?

    Topic 3:

The main political parties are supportive several groups which campaign throughout the year against the BNP. For example Unite Against Fascism, HopeNotHate, StopTheBNP and Searchlight. This enables the main political parties to circumvent restrictions on spending and various campaigning methods, especially during election periods. In what way is this democratic?

    Topic 4:

Would it be OK to defraud those who vote BNP, so as to ensure that the BNP are not returned to office?

    If not, why not?

Would it be OK to defraud those who vote for parties other than the BNP?

    If not, why not?

  38. Even without a script it's got to be better than the garbage going out on R5 Live between 10 and 1 most nights.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Good luck Iain, I will be skyping later into the show!

    ReplyDelete
  40. "Goodnight, and don't let things get you down; it's after midnight now, so there are only X days left to go."

Where X = the number of days to the last possible date for a general election.

Hmm, actually that number is still a bit too large.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Don't have nightmares.

    ReplyDelete
  42. "Good night, Arundel. And good mental health"

    ReplyDelete
  43. Opening: fade out Abba tune"Knowing you, knowing me, Ian Dale: Aha!" ??

Closing: "This is Ian Dale reminding listeners: whatever your politics, folks, don't forget to vote."

    Maybe not.

Good luck with the show :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hmmmm... Given the time of evening you are going out, it has to be some form of 'double entendre' working on the name of the programme..

    How about...

"This has been Play Talk Radio..

    We've done the talk.

Now it's time to play.. "

I'm sure you will be able to camp it up much more than that..

    ReplyDelete
  45. Dare you to say..

    "We've had the Play Talk.

    Now it's time for a serious f*ck"

    Well, maybe not...

    ReplyDelete
  46. I might give you a call but i will have been drinking! LoL

I might say excuse me Mister (German accent)and talk about wine enema's being a key ingredient in getting LD tactical votes behind the Tories! Alternatively I might start going on about Chicken and Chips (In a high pitched comical voice) or even Nick Clegg = Neil Kinnock! That's side splitting funny how ever you say it!

If Peter Mandeslon phones up please ask him about the avacodo mouse!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Something like...

"Talk is cheap, hope you found it valuable"

Play Talk not in the Radio Time [sic] database. Will listen by some means...

    ReplyDelete
  48. You are going to play Cliff Richards aren't you? Sorry, I'll give it a miss then.

Paul Halsall has just reminded me why I'm celibate.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Should a social and economic liberal stay in the Liberal Democrats or is a S.A.E.L. really a Conservative who hasn't admitted it to themselves?

    ReplyDelete
  50. "It's the hard road for the old dog every time..."

    One of EH Shackleton's quotes.

F*ck all use for the show, but I do like it.

    ReplyDelete
  51. In the light of the current state of the nation after Brown's best efforts I think "Goodnight Great Britain, whatever you are", would be appropriate.
