The Disgusting Face of the Left

Dizzy exposes the nasty, disgusting face of the left, and so-called comedian Mark Thomas in particular. Apparently he is encouraging people to send postcards to the Queen - or Elizabeth Windsor, as he calls her - to tell her how they will celebrate the death of Margaret Thatcher. And to think, I used to think Mark Thomas was quite funny. He's sick.

  1. Just what to expect of the left and Labour. The Nasty Party.

Its because of peiple like him we are in the mess we are in.

  2. Well, Lady T has has worse and far wittier insults thrown at her over the years, not to mention the odd bomb. I imagine she will pay this scant regard. It doesn't excuse Thomas, of course, who likes to think of himself as the scourge of the arms trade. What kind of humanitarian would celebrate the death of a human being?

  3. Calm down, dear, it's a commercial..

You have just waltzed into his elephant trap. And I can't believe you didn't realise before that Mark Thomas has a 'dark side of the force'..

I can forgive him this, because when he his dealing with those agents of death, the multinational arms companies, you need a touch of the Darth Vader about you.

Didn't your parents tell you that if someone was being horrid, the best tactic was to ignore them ?

Wouldn't you be better off sticking up for Mrs Dorries - heaven knows she needs somebody to whisper a few quiet, calm words of advice in her ear. But maybe you are a bit too 'jump-the-gun' at the moment..

  4. I agree -- sick.

But talking about the Queen, perhaps she is the only person above all this mess. I know that politically she cannot act (as constitutional monarch) but this may be the only way forward to give some moral direction to our discredited governing elites.

  5. It would be very easy to play up to this man's actions, but yeah, leave him to his games. I used to find him quite interesting and funny but this is beyond reasonable behaviour.

It shouldn't ought to be allowed.

    I think it's DISGUSTING.

  7. Duly noted, but ignore it and it will go away.
We have all seen worse from both ends of the political spectrum, and I am sure the same goes for HMtQ Brenda & LadyT.

  10. I think this demonstrates the polarising effect that Thatcher continues to have on society. There are those on the left who will never forgive her for what they perceive as her cruelty to them and their kind.

Whilst I was no great fan as a young man, I now see that it is because of Thatcher that I am free to make piles of cash. She changed society for the better.

So, I won't be sending that postcard to Liz, but I might just send her one asking her to get rid of Brown...

  11. I agree Iain - awful, tasteless and plain nasty.

Oh, I forgot - she ate babies live on TV.

  12. Not at all surprised, Iain. I first saw Mark Thomas perform live at my university in 1988. Part of his act was to laugh about Conservatives being blown up by the IRA at the 1984 Conference. Not at all funny, of course, given the dreadful injuries and suffering endured by decent innocent people. I was sickened that anyone could find this amusing, but a large proportion of the anti-Thatcher audience thought it was hilarious, even though none of them would be ever likely to do so much for their country as the bomb victims.

And by 1988 it wasn't even topical.

In may ways, though, he is representative of a significant part of the left. Deluded middle-class leftie student-types seem to love him, to demonstrate how right-on and in touch with te "working class" they supposedly are.

Makes me sick just thinking about it.

  13. Mark Thomas has never been funny. He was always a very poor Ben Elton impersonator ( a la 1989). And by all respects pretty much irrelevant these days.

  14. Get the man's address let all of us have it so we can send him a postcard (with insufficient postage so he has to pay the rest!!) with the message.

" Cannot Wait to celebrate YOUR death "

    Meet sick with sick!

  16. Dave, The post I wrote on Jack Jones was not disrespectful in any way. Indeed, I paid tribute to his work for pensioners. I did critique his work as a trade union leader. I have no problem with people criticising Margaret Thatcher's political legacy following her death. What I do have a problem with is hate filled comments. You cannot possibly compare my blogpost about Jack Jones with this.

  17. Standard fare for those Lefty c**ts who claim to be comedians. Just like Brigstocke, Lee, Jo Brand and the rest. They say it under the guise of comedy but they really mean it and are as sick as those radical preachers. But watch them get their knickers in a twist if some equally moronic statement is made about Leftist leaders.

  18. Let's not forget the Grauniad's suggested grave stone epitaph "Licensed for public dancing"

    ReplyDelete
  19. Those on the far-left don't half hold grudges, though, eh? Surely a good leftie like him should be organising how to bury Tony Blair or someone more recent for crimes against socialism?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Iain, this is just another example of how vicious, insulting and nasty New Labour supporters and those on the left have become.

They have made a complete balls up of everything from the economy to MP's expenses so like a wounded animal they will lash out at anything.

As you rightly said - Sick.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Not sick, desperate. The left is defunct, totally, and New labour are equally as defunct; the so called by him, nasty bunch but who are however better than the Tories so he will support them, much like cretins like Billy Bragg.

So where then is a boy to o?

  22. Mark Thomas can be very funny but there has always been a deeply unwholesome whiff about him. He's so convinced of his sense of moral virtue that he lacks any restraint. A Righteous Beserker in fact.

Likewise, Jeremy Hardy can be extremely funny, quick and has a real understanding of humour yet he's without doubt a fanatic with a pretty distorted world-view. (He was excellent on NQ last night, that's one MP3 I won't be deleting anytime soon)

(I will now follow the link)

  23. Eh? Why on earth does he think Brenda will care? That's odd on many levels. I remember seeing him & Tony Benn at Glastonbury and got bored almost immediately - Dave stayed tho but he likes that kinda stuff. Anyway - aren't we watching the left's funereal procession now? Bless.

OT - my mum would have mugged you for your opera ticket the other night - sounds like a good turn.

    Bitter losers always do... ;)

  25. He's got "Draper Syndrome" a very extreme form of chip on the shoulder mentality where by demonisation of your opponents, seeing them as "enemies" only serves to fuel a cycle of neurotic aggression and resentment.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hehe, I always love it when the Tory wives get all frothed up with indignation when teh evilz lefties say something they disapprove of.

I too have the champagne on ice for when the evil witch finally karks it.

PS I don't think MT has much truck with new Labour either btw.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Labour + LD are shameless!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Err....who is Mark Thomas? I seriously have never heard of him!

Lets face it. Mrs T could give every lefty a run for their money. Most come from well-to-do backgrounds who firmly believe it is their right (or left!) to be nasty to anyone who doesnt agree with them. Whereas Maggie was a grocer's daughter who did very nicely.

  29. This isn't about 'celebrating the death of Margaret Thatcher' - it's a protest against the idea that she should be given a state funeral, which is quite different.

I certainly wouldn't celebrate her death but I don't think that politicians should get state funerals except in the most exceptional circumstances (Churchill being the obvious example)

    ReplyDelete
  30. In the past I have been a big fan of Mark Thomas, and though I may not agree with his politics, he has done some good work in the field of investigative journalism. This stunt, however, is sick.

I remember when Mark Steel (whom I also admire) made a joke about Mrs Thatcher dying when he was a guest on "Room 101". The audience thought it was hilarious.

I disagree with "Anonymous", saying we should "calm down". Stunts like this make people very angry and we should express our collective outrage.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ah, more selective reading from Mr Dale... seen this before!

The context is that if Mrs T gets a state funeral it will be disrupted. State funerals are presumably granted by Lizzie Windsor, and a lot of people do not think it would be appropriate for Thatcher.

Yes, it's driven by spite but I tend to agree that Mrs T should not receive a state funeral; do you really think politicians should be afforded such an honour, or Mrs T in particular (why not Blair, or Brown or any other PM?).

    ReplyDelete
  32. This doesn't surprise me at all; there is a particular type of Labour supporter who sees all the problems of the present day as stemming from Thatcher (as they are wont to refer to her). I was delivering soup to a vegan supermarket in the Manchester area, and when I offered the delivery note and asked the chap receiving the goods to "sign for his expenses"
he immediately went off on an anti-Thatcher rant, blaming her for the present little difficulties our esteemed members find themselves in.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The kind of actions suggested should not be done anywhere, by anyone, to anyone, at any funeral.Disagree. A state funeral for Thatcher would be a political act, and are therefore fair game for political demonstration.

If the suggestion were to protest her private funeral I'd agree that would be disgusting. But to use taxpayers money to honour Thatcher in this way means it would be a legitimate target of anger and protest.

    And he's quite right.

Plus, if Thatcher does get a state funeral, I can quite believe that some people will go for one of Thomas's options, most likely the ventriloquist one.

  39. Whatever your view of Mrs T's sucesses and failures, and by the way Johnny Norfolk, the current depression can be laid at the door of the 'Big Bang' deregulation excercise at least in part.
It is a fact that her policies brought the misery of longterm unemployment to millions, and it can be argued wrecked the social fabric of large parts of the industrial uk.
Many hold her policies were necessary to the future economic success of this country.
However asking the 'Victims' of her economic policy to use their taxes to honour her in death could be considered as adding insult to injury.
To the working population of many towns I can think of Mr Thomas's antics would be considered restrained.
Perhaps those who want her to have one should pay from their own purses for it?

  40. you are in the minority - based on the election results that I mentioned earlier.Um... when did we have an election for Thatcher to have a state funeral? Must have missing my voting papers for that one!

  41. Mark Thomas isn't a comedian - he's a prankster.

    Pranksters are odd and unfunny.

    ReplyDelete
  42. As has been pointed out, the postcard is in fact a protest against the state funeral planned for Thatcher. Nice dishonest spin you've put on it, Iain.

Call it his dark side if you must - but let's not forget his excellent work investigative work into the arms trade and human rights abuses. Oh, and he even managed to get the law changed. So, he's both an activist and a comedian.

By the way, how do you feel about Guido's hilarious insinuations about Gordon Brown's mental health?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Well done, you caught the wrong end of that stick. Did you actually read the postcard or just have a knee-jerk reaction to the image you saw?

  44. Mark Thomas - Hoon.

It's difficult keeping to the ban on the C-word in the comments on this blog when you talk about characters like this.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Surely someone who spent her career trying to roll back the state should be angling to be buried at the taxpayer's expense.

As for Thomas being funny, anyone who didn't laugh at Waldegrave and the "ice cream van" has a heart of stone.

  46. It’s impossible to comment on your blog on the ‘What will doubtless happen when Thatcher dies’ issue since last time you immediately deleted it.

    So I can’t.

  47. Thatcher was a divisive figure and she was no saint. I for one wouldn't wish her any harm, but I don't think she deserves a state funeral.

My main objection to her is nothing to do with the miners' strike or her economic and social reforms, but to the way she gave her sleazy son a leg up into the arms trade and then secured him a knighthood (via his father).

    ReplyDelete
  48. I think Mark's stand is inspirational. Thatcher deserves a pauper's grave just like the one she sent thousands of working class people to.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I guess I am lucky - I have never heard of nor seen this Mark Thomas. Is he dead yet? If so let's pitch his body into a sewer - he's used to it it seems.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Can't Stand Mark Thomas. He's just a Michael Moore wannabe, full of all the usual anti-corporate, anti-capitalist, self-important, wind-bagging. People like that are only in it for their own self-aggrandizement.

His Channel 4 programme used to be called 'The Mark Thomas Comedy Product'. Then they changed it to 'The Mark Thomas Product'.

Presumably the 'comedy' part breached the trades descriptions act.

Far too self-righteous to ever be funny.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Also....
Say what you like about Thatcher, but at least her war was wholly legitimate : British territory was invaded.

How unlike Blair's deceitful, vainglorious and absolutely disasterous attempt to grasp some kind of legacy. (He's got one alright, just not the one he'd hoped for).
