Anything Gordon Can Do...

Photograph by Ross Parry for the Telegraph

John Prescott decided he'd help Gordon Brown today by imitating his smile. No, really, He did. The Telegraph has the story.

I particularly liked this quote from Mr Prescott, who clearly doesn't know his country from his continent. So to speak...
"In countries like Africa, people queue up to vote."

  2. So he's Labour's Sarah Palin

  3. Type Sarah Palin Africa into Google and you will get loads of stories by enraged lefties about how Sarah Palin thought Africa was a country.

Doubtless they will be similarly angered by Prescott's ignorance. Or not.

  4. Iain, that's quite an amusing picture of Gordon Brown. Do you have one of John Prescott? I believe that he is even uglier.

  5. There will certainly be Cabinet Splits after this! Mainly members sides spitting open as they laugh their head off!

Hope that does not sound sexual or perverted! It is funny Prescott seems to be the personification of No.10 at the moment! Ugly, in the gutter and shameless! A bit like the Liberal Democrats!

  6. You can just Imagine Prescott saying to that Secreatery give us a kiss with a face like that!

  7. I think Prescott was referring to incidents like the 1994 General Election in South Africa. I do think it's a sad sign that we likewise don't go out in droves to vote :/

  8. Luckily he was serving the gin and tonic, not navigating round the world's oceans.

  9. At least it looks better than the picture the BBC have caught of our great leader, unless he is going for the far right vote

Meanwhile, isn't it time Ian Hislop took stock of what he has become?

  12. Iain - you'll love this comparison. Perhaps too much.

The queues in the 1994 South African elections [in which I voted] were indeed partially due to the number of voters. They were also lengthened by multiple voters and by lack of ballot papers which arrived at some polling stations halfway through the day.

The count was never finished - about 3-million papers or so needed to be counted when the parties agreed on an ANC share of less than the magical two-thirds
and called a halt to the count.

You might also reflect that long queues were seen at Zimbabwean elections also. The count there was also never verified.

I draw your attention to this only to illustrate that queue lengths at polls do not indicate any special magic.

I will agree that voting is low in the UK, it has always been so in my aging memory. Education would address that problem to an extent but honest politicians would have a still greater effect.

It may also be necessary to abolish postal votes altogether except for people serving the country overseas since all cases of electoral fraud are based around those.

It is doubtful that John Prescott will swing one single vote despite his cheeriness. All but the die-hard old Labourites recognise John for what he is.

  15. Its the new agreed method for raising education standards ever higher.
The world's countries have been reclassified into just five countries. With only 5 capitals to learn too. Makes the multi choice even easier. Prescott must have read this from the BBC's Learning Zone.

1} Africa - Capital City - Mogadishu - eco friendliness. Very high. - The nicest and fairest of all the countries.
exports - ancient wisdom, tribal harmony, Marxist economic theory, bananas.

    2} Europe - Capital City - France
Eco friendliness - low. - A terrible, stinking corrupt place, with some nice bits round the edges
Exports - Bureaucracy, regulations, ring tones and teenage pregnancy

3} Asia - Capital City - Birds Nest
Eco friendliness very low, but we will pretend its high. - An inscrutable mix, but because India is in there somewhere, we think the whole country is mystic, sensual and possess far more wisdom and tolerance than the west.
Exports- fortune cookies, tiny little cars, bangles and spices.

4}Americas - Capital city New Washington. Eco friendliness Very very low. A hateful place with almost no redeeming features.{except the rainforests} All the other countries hate this one.
Chief exports diabetes, carbon emissions, napalm and homophobia.

    5} Other Country. - Capital city -
Canberokyo. Eco friendliness - Middling. - All the remaining countries go in here. Its a bit of a lump what with New Guinea and Israel in the same mix. Chief exports robots and maize.

  16. It’s not often that TwoJags gets it right but this time he has. Gordon’s so-called smile, a leering grimace, a wolfish, sinister rictus, replete with insincerity, a mere advertisement of recent dentistry which has made him look even more in need of psychiatric help than in the past.
Long may it remain in the public focus. Every time he shows his teeth he loses a few more votes for ZanuLabour. Keep smiling, Prime Minister, keep smiling!

  17. I suppose it was the same for England. But in Wales we were treated to a EU Election Broadcast by the Welsh labour Party.

It was Brown, with that smile, and how many times did he mention the words ELECTION EUROPE EU EURO MP'S?? Never!!

    Quite, quite remarkable.

  19. Iain -

Hang on. Wasn't it only a week or so ago that Prescott said in a R4 interview that criticising Brown about his smile was so trivial as to be silly?

    So what's changed since then?

  20. Doctor Syn, Prescott would probably say he wasn't being critical, but taking the p*** as a mate.
