Weekend Treat: My Top 100 Songs: 76-100

It seems an age since we've had a list on this site (stop moaning at the back), so I thought as a special reward for making this the best week ever for traffic on the blog, you deserved something special. So over the weekend I am going to treat you to my favourite 100 songs of all time, split into four chunks. 1. Iain, did you hear that Nick Clegg was booed at his party's Welsh conference last night? More here:

  2. Why do people in politics have such questionable tastes in music? The same can be said of footballers, lawyers & estate agents but somehow never hairdressers!

  3. Long live the list Iain. Some will no doubt disagree, but the political blogosphere has become terribly serious of late and I think we need more of this sort of thing.

  4. If you're into Rosenstolz please include Willkommen.

(PS in reality this posting isn't much of a treat. Your blog though.)

  5. An intriguingly electecit bunch, I must say! Roll on 75 - 1...

  6. I have to say Iain, I have compiled lists of my favourite songs in regards to Top 7, Top 10, even Top 12. But never Top 100. Just glad you didn't tag anyone, least of all me! ;-)

  7. We're about the same age so I'd be expecting to see a lot more 70's stuff or are we to expect more from Erasure, Morrissey, Madge, Pet Shop Boys, Marc Almond, Divine, Joan Armatrading, Marilyn, Freddie, Jimmy Somerville, Dusty Springfield ....... or how about some Judas Priest?

  8. Iain, what's the betting that Cliff is No 1?

Also, in true Fluff Freeman style, wouldn't it be better for the list to run in reverse order, counting down? Thank you pop pickers!

  11. I was getting all excited when I saw Heartbreaker was on the list...until I realised it was the Alphabeat song and not the Led Zeppelin one! Brave thing, doing a top 100. I don't know if I chould choose myself, maybe a top ten :-

    10. Wicked Annabella - The Kinks
    9. Fake Tales Of San Francisco - Arctic Monkeys
    8. Boys Don't Cry - The Cure
    7. The Bucket - Kings of Leon
    6. Baba O'Reilly - The Who
    5. Love Spreads - Stone Roses
    4. I Feel Free - Cream
    3. The Sweater Song - Weezer
    2. Don't Look Back Into The Sun - The Libertines
    1. Whole Lotta Love - Led Zeppelin.

Well, that was tortuous, that list changed 5 times already!

  12. Mr BarDirect, indeed.

I do approve of Blancmange though - an excellent track.

Am concerned about the Asia though - I am the unfortunate owner of several dreadful UK LPs which I cannot believe I ever bought - plus a copy of Asia by Asia.

    *embarrassed*

  13. Blimey - music for people who don't like music. Did you suffer some traumatic experience at a 1980s provincial discoteque perchance? And was the DJ Timmy Mallett or Su Pollard? I don't think I'll ever read your commentary in the same light again.

  14. 3 that I have, but haven't played in years.
Won't be making a C4 about these just yet. Need to see the 'good' half

  15. Iain, is this the real you ? Not a single Cliff Richard track listed.

I know this is only 76 - 100, but for a man with 125 Cliff Albums, I expected there to be nothing ELSE in your whole top 100 !

  16. Bardirect... perhaps you could give us a list of Dusty Springfield's Greatest Hits of the 70's...

    Are 'Our Friends Electecit'?

  17. Thanks for Rosenstolz's "Schlampen"; even though I left Germany seven years ago and I like the English language very much there is a familiar warmth creeping through my soul, heart or spine when it comes to describe a sad situation in German. Have a good weekend and thanks for the treat.

  20. Will this be finished by Monday?

  23. Where's the blues? The most significant, in any way possible, form of music created by man. It's got the lot from pathos to anger, deprivation to wealth and those guys certainly could brew up a storm. Watch clips of Muddy Waters in action from all those years back which then cut to females, especially white, in the audience. They were open mouthed and wide eyed in awe as he did his knowing hipness. As for trancending and thus reaching out to non specific race, age and gender they did more than any politician could hope for in their wildest dreams.

  24. Good to see Blancmange there, and that's one of the pretty good Abba covers, but will I be seeing 'Waves" soon somewhere higher up the list?

Oh yeh, and how much of your record traffic is down to Tim?

Well, you were expecting me to say something like that after all, weren't you, honey?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yes I was darling Scotch. And you had started so promisingly...

    No Waves, I'm afraid...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Dammit, sorry to fail you; I'm so terribly ashamed.

On a positive note, I'm looking forward in the final 50 to Billy Bragg, the Manics, Smiths, Stone Roses, JMC, the Scream, Teenage Fanclub, Motörhead and SLF all appearing.

  27. Sadly, I fear I am going to continue my record of proving to be a disappointment to you.

  28. Well it's the weekend, it's a nice day, I seem to be in a good mood so I'll let you off. Like football in no-man's land.
Back to it on Monday though, eh?

  29. I suspect, Scotch, that my Top 50 will provoke a return to normal hostilities well before then :)

  30. What you mean 'Dancing Queen' isn't number one? A travesty!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Obviously I cannot reveal secrets, but suffice to say Dancing Queen does rather well.
