These blogs were voted for by the readers of more than 75 UK political blogs and the readers of TOTAL POLITICS Magazine. Each person voted for their top ten blogs. Their favourite was awarded ten points, their second favourite nine points and so on down to one point. 1,142 people cast a vote.
The full results will be published in the Guide to Political Blogging in the UK 2008-9 which is published on 5 September and will be available at all the party conferences. You can now also pre-order it via the Total Politics website for £12 inc p&p. You will receive it in mid September.
Seems to me that you had a bit of a demographic-advantage, given that the people voting were essentially your readers.

ReplyDeleteTop six are unsurprising (if not the order of them!) as all are excellent in their own ways, but personal highlights for me are seeing the ever-excellent Archbishop Cranmer at 12, Letters from a Tory at 21, James Cleverly in at 38 and Iain Lindley, Prodicus and the Right Student making the top 100 too.

That's not fair! You have done right and left of center blogs - where is the centrist, bang in the middle, bullseye blog list?
And before Toque or Britology beat me to it - you have done top Welsh and Scottish blogs - who are the top English blogs?

ReplyDeleteAndrew F, I can see why you say that, but it's not true. 79 other blogs urged their readers to vote. I wouldn't deny that a lot of my readers did too, but the proportion is far lower than last year, although I accept there is no way of proving it. Anyway, it's just a bit of fun!

ReplyDeletePleased to have made it to 61 considering I re-launched after the voting began and haven't been pushing myself. Next year, however, I hope to make at least the top 20.
ReplyDeleteWhilst my appetite for these lists is more limited than Iain's appears to be, could he/you keep a link to these lists permanently in an obvious part of your archive? I am not going to try them all out in any short time frame but it would be useful to come back to them. Thanks

ReplyDeleteYou manifestly failed to offer sufficient naked breasts to induce your readers to vote for you.
It would be more scientifically objective to arrive at a 'top' list through proving the number of unique visitors it receives or through its Technorati ranking.
Mr Dale's motives are honourable, and, for many, including the bloggers, it clearly is 'a bit of fun'. But these lists are published and disseminated far and wide. They clearly become authoritative for many others, and errors, omissions, or biases are set aside.

Darn doing the maths there are 89 English blogs in the top 100, 10 Scottish blogs ahead of me and 2 Welsh Lib Dems ahead of me on the Lib Dem list. Guess I'll be watching just how close I get by comparisons.
