Cranmer is praising in the pulpit and dancing in the aisles at the news that Boris Johnson has become Mayor of London, and the Conservative Party has triumphed in local elections the length and breadth of the land. Ken Livingstone is definitely gone, and Gordon Brown is now certainly going. It is the culmination of months of fervent prayer and intercession, and Cranmer is humbled that the Lord has answered his prayers.
At last, a chance for the tories to show the country what a real alternative looks like.
I predict that Boris will become a truly great mayor of London. There's just something about him that makes me think this role will suit him so much. And well done Iain for your efforts here and elsewhere, definitely a good day I would say.
Don't let Ken's speech mask the fact that he waged a highly personal, offensive and mendacious campaign aginst Boris. After being accused by the Livingstone camp of being racist, homophobic, Islamophobic and God knows what else, Boris would have been well within his rights to have used his speech to stick the knife in as far as it could go. The fact that he didn't says so much for the difference between the Tories and the NuLab lie-machine.
Well done, guys. This morning London is a better and happier place.
I didn't vote for him, but I must say he gave a very gracious acceptance speech.
